To make a copy of your Google Keep notes, use Google Takeout: sign in to the Google Account that owns the notes, select Keep for export, choose archive settings, and create the export. The archive can include note text and lists, attachments, and note details such as colors, labels, and pinned or archived status. It is an export, not a confirmed one-click restore to Keep or another notes app.
Export all eligible Keep data with Google Takeout
- Sign in to the Google Account that contains the Keep notes you want to save.
- Open Google’s Keep export page and start the data export through Google Takeout.
- Select Keep as the product to include. Review the product selection before continuing rather than assuming the default selection is right for your needs.
- Continue to the archive settings, choose a delivery method, and create the export.
- Wait for Google to prepare the archive, then download it by following the instructions Google provides.
- For an independent backup, store a copy somewhere separate from the Google Account being backed up. Keeping the original archive as well as any working copy is sensible if you may later need to inspect or move the data.
Google says downloading data does not delete it from its servers. However, the archive may not include changes made between the time you request it and the time Google creates it. Google recommends downloading and viewing Takeout exports on a desktop computer. See Google’s Takeout download guidance for the archive workflow and caveats.
What a Keep export includes—and what it does not
Google lists these categories in a Keep export: note content, including text and list items; attachments, including voice recordings, drawings, and images; note color; pinned and archived state; collaborators; and your list of labels. The export covers data that has not been deleted. Google does not establish on its export page that the archive can be restored directly into Keep in a particular way, so check the destination’s current import support before relying on it for a migration.
Work or school account users may be unable to download some data. An organization administrator can manage whether users are allowed to download product data. If Keep is managed by your employer or school, access to Takeout may therefore depend on your organization’s settings.

Copy one note to Google Docs or another app
If you only need to reuse a particular note, Google’s instructions let you copy a Keep note to Google Docs on a computer. On Android, you can copy a note to Docs or send it through another app. These are individual-note actions, not substitutes for an account-wide export. Download a text version from a note’s history
On a computer, open the note’s More menu, choose Version history, select the version you need, and download it. Google says version history shows previous text changes only; images do not appear there. Treat it as a limited text-recovery option, not a complete copy of the note or its attachments. Developer option: retrieve attachments through the API
For a custom retrieval workflow, Google documents an attachment-media download method in the Keep API. It requires an authorized request and a supported MIME type, so it is intended for developers building an integration rather than a typical consumer backup. Before relying on the archive
- Deleted Keep data is not included in the export.
- For a work or school account, check whether your administrator permits downloads and whether some data is unavailable.
- Allow for the possibility that changes made after requesting the archive will not be in the completed export.
- If your goal is to move notes to another service, verify that service’s current import support and the formats it accepts before treating the archive as a restorable backup.
