Which review data and selection controls matter?
Choose Apple when precise review filtering is central
Apple’s app-level customer-review list documents filters for territory, rating, and whether a review has a published response. You can also sort by date or rating, or retrieve reviews for a particular App Store version. The app-level endpoint permits a maximum page limit of 200; your integration should still handle additional pages where the result set requires them. Apple customer reviews
Choose Google’s fields when support triage needs device context
Google’s review object can provide device and Android OS information, app version code and name, reviewer language, rating, review text, and thumbs-up/down counts. That context can help a support workflow relate a complaint to a device or app release. Google’s list method is paginated and accepts an optional translationLanguage parameter, so plan for page traversal and decide whether translated review text is useful for your team. How do replies differ?
Apple: one response per review, with deletion available
Apple allows a developer response to be created, retrieved, updated, or deleted, but each customer review can have no more than one response. To reply, first obtain the customer review resource ID, then create or update the response associated with that ID. Apple customer review responses

Google: reply or update, with text constraints
Google’s reviews.reply method creates a reply to an individual review or updates the existing reply. The request supplies replyText. Replies longer than approximately 350 characters are rejected, and HTML tags are stripped. Keep the submitted response within that documented limit and do not rely on HTML formatting surviving. Credentials and production safeguards
Apple authorization
Apple API calls require JSON Web Tokens generated from keys obtained through an App Store Connect account. Apple warns that API changes affect production data, so treat response creation, updates, and deletion as production writes and test authorization and request handling before enabling them in a live workflow. Google authorization
Google’s review-list and reply methods require OAuth authorization with the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/androidpublisher scope. Ensure the credentials used by the integration have the appropriate access to the app and keep review retrieval and reply submission within the permissions granted to that account. Implementation choices for a review-management integration
- Connect each store separately. Use App Store Connect for Apple apps and Android Publisher for Google Play apps; the cited APIs do not describe a common endpoint for both stores.
- Keep platform-specific review IDs. Store the source platform alongside each review ID so replies and updates are sent to the correct API.
- Build ingestion around pagination. Google explicitly supports pagination; Apple’s app-level endpoint has a maximum limit of 200, so account for multi-page retrieval rather than assuming one response contains every review.
- Choose the fields and filters your workflow needs. Use Apple’s version, territory, rating, and response-state controls where relevant. On Google, decide whether translation-language retrieval and device or app-version metadata belong in support triage.
- Reconcile changes, not just new reviews. Retain update timestamps where the API returns them so edited reviews and reply changes can be reconciled by your integration.
- Separate read and write handling. Validate review IDs, authorization, and response text before sending production-facing replies; account for Apple’s one-response-per-review model and Google’s reply constraints.
What the API documentation does not settle
The cited references do not establish a comparable account-level rate limit for the two review APIs, nor do they establish pricing or support guarantees. Check current constraints for the specific developer accounts and integration architecture before deployment; API references may change.
