To specifically use an Opus model, select it with Claude Code’s model option. These are separate controls, not competing modes: you can choose a model and set a permission mode independently. Anthropic’s documentation does not establish “Claude Code Advisor” as an official feature name, so this comparison treats “advisor” as a description of a planning role, not a product or toggle.
What “Claude Code Advisor” means—and what it doesn’t
Anthropic’s CLI reference documents a --permission-mode plan option and a separate --model option. It does not identify a feature called “Claude Code Advisor.” The phrase could refer to a custom agent, a prompt, or simply an informal way to describe asking Claude Code for advice; those are not interchangeable, and the documentation cited here does not define them.
For a grounded comparison, the useful distinction is between Claude Code’s documented plan permission mode and choosing an Opus model for a session. Neither label alone describes the whole workflow: one concerns what the session is allowed to do, and the other concerns which model it uses.
Plan mode and Opus control different things
| Choice | What it controls | What the documentation establishes |
|---|---|---|
--permission-mode plan |
Permission boundary | Claude can analyze but cannot modify files or execute commands in plan mode, according to Anthropic’s identity and access management documentation. |
--model with an Opus alias or full model name |
Model selection | The CLI reference documents model selection separately from permission mode. Choosing Opus does not, by itself, put the session in plan mode. See Anthropic’s CLI reference. |
| Access route | How Claude Code is made available and authenticated | Anthropic’s setup guide describes Console, eligible Claude app plans, and enterprise platforms. Terms and entitlements should not be assumed to be identical across routes. |
These settings can be considered together: selecting Opus does not remove the plan-mode boundary, and plan mode does not specify which model is used. The exact availability of a model and the access terms depend on the current model and account setup.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
When to use Claude Code plan mode
Choose plan mode when you want Claude Code to inspect and reason about project context while preventing file modifications and command execution. That boundary is useful when you want a proposed approach before implementation, or when actions need to remain disabled during analysis.
Plan mode describes permitted behavior, not a guarantee that the resulting plan is complete, correct, or suitable for your project. Review the proposal and verify assumptions before acting on it.

When to choose an Opus model
Choose an Opus model when model selection is the specific requirement. Anthropic’s CLI reference supports selecting a model by alias or full model name. You can then ask it to plan a task, but choosing Opus alone does not establish the no-edit, no-command boundary documented for plan mode.

How to choose the workflow
- Need analysis with actions disabled? Use Claude Code’s documented plan permission mode.
- Need a particular model? Select the currently available Opus alias or full model name using the CLI’s model option.
- Need both? Treat model selection and permission mode as independent choices, then verify that your access route supports the model and setup you intend to use.
- Considering a named “Advisor” feature? Confirm what that name refers to in your own setup. The cited official documentation does not establish it as a separate Claude Code mode.
What the available documentation cannot compare
Anthropic’s cited materials define the plan-mode permission behavior and the model-selection control, but they do not provide a head-to-head evaluation of plan mode versus Opus planning for quality, speed, or cost. There is therefore no evidence here to rank one as universally better on those measures. The practical choice is based on whether you need the documented permission boundary, a specific model, or both.
