Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

If you access the same account in Apple Mail and Thunderbird on a computer, troubleshoot Apple Mail and the account’s server settings—not Thunderbird for iOS.
First, identify the iPhone app
Check the app’s name and icon. If it is Apple Mail, that is Apple’s mail app connected to your account; it is not Thunderbird for iOS. Mozilla’s Thunderbird FAQ, last updated June 23, 2026, says, “When it is ready for users there will be a public announcement.” The Thunderbird for iOS project repository describes the project as “Not yet functional or ready for production use.” A Thunderbird blog update dated October 1, 2026 says the team is building the app natively from scratch and aims to have a first version ready for community testing in the next few months. That is a development goal, not confirmation that a public production app is available.

Confusion is understandable: people sometimes mean Apple Mail when they say they use Thunderbird on an iPhone. Mozilla’s support forum includes a thread in which a user clarified that the iPhone app was Apple Mail. The useful distinction is the app actually installed, not which desktop program is used on another device.
Fix Apple Mail delivery and notification issues
If your iPhone app is Apple Mail, check its delivery and notification settings. Apple’s Mail Fetch and Notifications support article gives the current screen paths for iOS. Follow that article for your iOS version, since labels and screens can change.

- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
- Review the account’s Fetch settings to see how Mail checks for new messages.
- Review Mail notification settings and confirm alerts are enabled for the account or mailbox you expect.
- If Push is not offered for the account, Apple says it defaults to Fetch. Fetch does not promise an immediate alert; delivery depends on the selected settings and provider support.
Apple Mail’s Push or Fetch behavior is separate from Thunderbird desktop’s mail-checking options. Changing a desktop setting cannot enable Push for an iPhone account.
Check whether the account setup supports shared mail state
When folders or read status differ between devices, check the account type configured in each mail client. Mozilla explains that IMAP lets a mail client access messages stored on the mail server. It is generally the relevant setup when you want clients to work with server-held messages, but it does not guarantee every folder or status will match: provider behavior, folder subscriptions, and client configuration can matter.

- Find the provider’s setup instructions for the account.
- Check the configured incoming account type in Thunderbird on each computer and in Apple Mail on the iPhone.
- Where shared server-side mail state is the goal, confirm with the provider that each client is configured for IMAP and that the missing folders are available or subscribed in that client.
Do not assume that a missing folder means the messages have been deleted. First compare what the provider shows for the account with what each client displays. Mozilla’s receiving-mail help recommends comparing incoming-server settings with the provider’s instructions; its steps concern Thunderbird desktop, not an unreleased iOS app.

If Thunderbird on a computer is slow to show new messages, inspect that desktop account’s server settings. Mozilla documents both a periodic new-message check and the option “Allow immediate server notifications when new messages arrive” for IMAP accounts. The immediate-notification option uses IMAP IDLE and depends on server support; its availability does not establish how Apple Mail or a future Thunderbird iOS app behaves. See Mozilla’s IMAP synchronization guidance for the desktop setting.

If Thunderbird desktop still cannot receive mail, compare its incoming-server configuration with the provider’s current instructions. Mozilla also identifies firewall, VPN, proxy, antivirus, or ISP interference as possible causes in its desktop receiving-mail troubleshooting guide. Treat those as desktop checks rather than copying Thunderbird settings onto iOS.

Choose the troubleshooting path by symptom
| What you see | Where to start |
|---|---|
| No alerts or delayed new mail on the iPhone | Identify the app. For Apple Mail, check Apple’s Fetch and notification settings and the provider’s support for the configured delivery method. |
| Folders or message state differ across devices | Check each client’s account type and provider configuration; confirm whether IMAP and the relevant folders are being used. |
| Thunderbird on a computer is delayed or cannot receive | Check desktop IMAP IDLE and periodic-check settings, then compare server details and network conditions with the provider’s instructions. |
| You expect settings for Thunderbird on iPhone | Check Mozilla’s FAQ and the iOS project repository for current availability; do not apply desktop instructions to the development project. |
