OBS’s maintained Facebook Live profile uses rtmps://rtmp-api.facebook.com:443/rtmp/ as its default endpoint, but use the URL Live Producer currently displays if it differs.
What you need before you start
- A Facebook account with access to create the live broadcast you intend to use. The exact controls and availability can vary by account; check the options shown in Live Producer.
- Encoder software that supports RTMPS, such as OBS.
- A stable upload connection capable of sustaining your selected video and audio bitrate.
RTMPS setup requires a server URL and a stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a broadcast to that destination. Do not publish it, share it in screenshots, or leave it in a public recording.
Get the RTMPS server URL and stream key
- Open Facebook Live Producer and create a live video or select the broadcast you want to use.
- Choose the streaming-software source or equivalent option shown for that broadcast.
- Copy the server URL and stream key currently displayed for the event or account. These are the destination details to enter in your encoder.
Use the values on your own Live Producer screen rather than assuming every account has identical settings or that a key persists between broadcasts. Facebook’s detailed help pages were not accessible for independent review, so account-specific controls and key-persistence behavior cannot be stated universally.
Configure OBS for Facebook Live
- In OBS, open Settings and choose Stream.
- If Facebook Live appears in the service menu, select it. Otherwise, choose a custom service and enter the server URL copied from Live Producer.
- Enter the corresponding stream key in the stream-key field. Check that the URL and key belong to the same broadcast.
- Set the video encoder to H.264, which OBS lists for its Facebook Live service configuration.
- Choose resolution, frame rate and bitrate appropriate for your connection. The OBS profile allows up to 60 fps and lists maximums of 9000 kbps video bitrate and 128 kbps audio bitrate. These are OBS profile limits and guidance, not a guarantee that Meta accepts every setting for every account or stream.
OBS’s maintained service configuration gives these example combinations:

| Output resolution | Frame rate | Video bitrate guidance |
|---|---|---|
| 1280 × 720 | 30 fps | Up to 4000 kbps |
| 1920 × 1080 | 30 fps | Up to 6000 kbps |
For a first test, prefer a combination your upload connection can sustain consistently over the highest available quality. Increasing resolution, frame rate or bitrate raises the amount of data the connection must send. If the network is variable, start conservatively and adjust only after checking OBS and Live Producer.
Start the stream and verify it in Live Producer
- Confirm that the selected OBS service or custom service contains the current server URL and matching stream key.
- Start streaming in OBS.
- Return to Facebook Live Producer and wait for the incoming preview or status to appear.
- Check the picture and sound in the preview. When they look and sound right, use the publishing control shown in Live Producer to make the broadcast live.
Starting the encoder sends a feed to Facebook; verify it in Live Producer before publishing so you can catch a wrong destination, missing picture or audio issue first. Facebook’s screen is the authority for the controls available to your broadcast.

Troubleshoot connection and dropped-frame problems
OBS shows rising dropped frames or a yellow/red connection indicator
OBS associates a rising dropped-frames counter and a yellow or red connection square with an unstable service connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Lower the video bitrate, then check whether the counter and connection indicator improve. Also check that the upload connection is consistent; a high nominal speed does not prevent intermittent instability.
OBS cannot connect
- Compare the server URL in OBS with the current URL shown in Live Producer.
- Re-copy the stream key and make sure it is in the stream-key field, not appended to the server URL.
- Confirm that the URL and key are for the same selected broadcast.
- If Live Producer supplies a different endpoint from OBS’s default, use the current Live Producer value.
The available guidance does not establish a complete current Meta error-code guide, so a connection error alone is not enough to identify a specific cause.

The stream connects but the preview is missing or wrong
- Check that OBS is sending the intended scene and that its video and audio sources are active.
- Wait for the preview or status in Live Producer, then confirm the encoder is connected to the intended broadcast.
- Do not publish until the preview shows the intended feed.
Or let it run in the cloud
This guide is for a live encoder feed to Facebook. StreamNeo is a separate service for keeping a YouTube channel live with uploaded videos; it does not stream to Facebook or go live from a camera. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
