To optimize a website for mobile, first check what people actually see and can do on a phone. Then verify that Google can access the same important content, measure real-user performance where data exists, and investigate individual pages with diagnostic tools. Avoid treating a perfect score as the goal: Google says there is no single page-experience signal, and good reports do not guarantee top rankings.
Start by checking the mobile experience people actually get
A page that looks fine on a desktop can be difficult to use on a narrow screen. Inspect key pages at common phone widths and, where possible, on actual phones. Check that text is not clipped, the page does not scroll sideways unexpectedly, navigation is usable, and banners or ads do not cover important controls or content.
Check the first screen and the whole page
- Can visitors see what the page is about and find its primary action without fighting overlays?
- Do menus, buttons, forms, and links work with touch, with enough room to use them accurately?
- Do images and embedded media fit the viewport without hiding text or causing overflow?
- Does the layout remain usable when text wraps or the device is held in a different orientation?
Use Lighthouse as one way to identify possible mobile usability and page-experience improvements, then confirm the findings in the actual page experience. A diagnostic report is a starting point, not a substitute for looking at the page.
Do not let ads or interstitials crowd out the page
On a small screen, an ad or pop-up can consume most of the first viewport or block the main content. Check how ads, consent prompts, newsletter forms, and other interstitials behave on mobile. Google includes intrusive interstitials and ads that interfere with the main content among the page-experience concerns to consider. Google’s page-experience guidance provides the broader checklist.

Do not remove important content to make mobile pages shorter
Google uses the mobile version of a site’s content for indexing and ranking. If a mobile implementation omits useful information that remains on desktop, that material may not be available to Google in the same way. Preserve the primary content, meaningful headings, and relevant supporting details across versions.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Organize content without hiding it from the crawler
Accordions and tabs can make a long mobile page easier to navigate while retaining equivalent content. The important distinction is whether the content is present in the rendered mobile page or only fetched after a visitor interacts. Google cautions that its crawler may not load content that requires a click, swipe, or typing action. Make primary content available without requiring those actions, and ensure the resources needed to render it are crawlable.
Compare the mobile and desktop versions
Check that primary content, headings, titles, descriptions, structured data, and important images are equivalent. For mobile images, keep important visuals sufficiently high quality, use supported formats, avoid image URLs that change on each page load, and provide descriptive alt text that remains equivalent across versions. Google notes that changing mobile image URLs can temporarily affect image-search history during a mobile-first indexing transition.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Choose a mobile configuration you can keep consistent
Responsive design, dynamic serving, and separate mobile URLs can all support mobile sites, but they do not have the same maintenance demands. Google describes responsive design as the easiest pattern to implement and maintain because it keeps the same URL and HTML while adapting presentation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute| Configuration | What to check | Maintenance consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Responsive design | One URL and HTML presentation adapts to the screen. Confirm the layout works at narrow widths and that the same primary content is available. | Google calls this the easiest design pattern to implement and maintain. |
| Dynamic serving | Check that the server returns the intended mobile experience and that mobile content, metadata, and structured data remain equivalent. | Device-specific serving adds parity checks compared with one responsive implementation. |
| Separate mobile URLs | Verify the relationship between desktop and mobile URLs, redirects, and equivalent content and metadata. | Separate URL mappings and redirects create additional opportunities for mismatches. |
Google’s mobile site and mobile-first indexing best practices explain the configurations and the checks that apply to them. Choose based on your architecture and whether your team can keep device-specific versions synchronized.

Measure performance with the right evidence
The current Core Web Vitals are Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), Interaction to Next Paint (INP), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS). Google’s recommended thresholds for a good experience are LCP within 2.5 seconds, INP below 200 milliseconds, and CLS below 0.1. These are experience thresholds, not promises of a ranking or conversion result. Google’s Core Web Vitals guidance describes the metrics and thresholds.
Use field data and page-level diagnostics together
- Search Console’s Core Web Vitals report: Use it to see real-world field data and groups of URLs where sufficient Chrome User Experience Report data is available.
- PageSpeed Insights or Lighthouse: Use page-level tests to investigate a specific URL and identify possible improvements. A single test or score does not describe every visitor’s experience.
These tools answer related but different questions. Search Console groups URLs using real-world data; a page-level diagnostic helps investigate a particular page. Search Console may not have enough field data for a device group, so an empty report does not establish that the page has no performance problem. See the Search Console Core Web Vitals report help for how the report works.

Do not optimize for a score in isolation
Use metrics to find and prioritize specific issues, then verify whether the change improves the experience. Google states that “There is no single signal” for page experience and warns that good results in Search Console or third-party tools do not guarantee top rankings. Google’s page-experience guidance explains why these signals belong in a broader assessment rather than a standalone ranking formula.
Fix mobile issues in a practical order
- Find high-impact pages. Start with important landing pages, product or service pages, and pages where mobile visitors need to complete a task.
- Inspect the real mobile layout. Look for clipped content, horizontal overflow, blocked controls, hard-to-use navigation, and intrusive overlays.
- Check content and crawler access. Confirm the mobile page contains primary information and that it does not depend on interaction to reveal that information.
- Compare versions where applicable. Review metadata, structured data, headings, images, and URL or redirect behavior on dynamic-serving and separate-URL sites.
- Measure before and after. Use available field data for real-world patterns and page-level diagnostics to investigate individual pages. Track LCP, INP, and CLS rather than relying on one overall score.
- Recheck after changes. Confirm that fixes work on narrow screens and have not removed content, broken navigation, or introduced layout shifts.
Common troubleshooting checks
The page looks good on desktop but breaks on a phone
Inspect narrow viewports and an actual phone. Check fixed-width elements, long strings, images, embedded content, and overlays that can cause horizontal scrolling or cover controls. Retest the affected page after adjusting the layout.

Mobile search visibility differs from expectations
Compare the rendered mobile content with desktop. Check that important text, headings, metadata, and structured data are present on mobile and that the crawler can access the resources needed to render them. For separate mobile URLs, also verify URL relationships and redirects.
Search Console has no Core Web Vitals data for a group
An empty group can reflect insufficient real-user data, not proof that performance is good. Use page-level diagnostics to investigate the URL and collect more evidence from actual use where available.
A performance score improved but the page still feels slow or unstable
Look at the underlying LCP, INP, and CLS findings and test the experience on the target page. A score is not a complete diagnosis; field data and page-level tests provide different evidence.
