1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThere is no single monthly price for running a 24/7 YouTube stream on Google Cloud Compute Engine. Your total depends on the VM type and region, the disk you attach, and how many hours you run it; the encoder workload also determines which VM is suitable. Google Cloud’s VM prices exclude disks and networking, so a VM-only figure is not the full estimate. Importantly, Google lists qualifying traffic from a VM to YouTube as no charge.
What makes up the monthly bill?
Estimate each resource your setup actually uses, then add the applicable charges. Google Cloud describes Compute Engine costs in terms of virtual machines, networking, and storage, and recommends using its pricing calculator to estimate costs. VM prices vary by machine type and region, and the published VM-instance prices do not include disks or networking. See Compute Engine pricing and the Compute Engine overview.
- VM runtime: Choose the machine family, size, and region, then multiply the applicable hourly price by your planned runtime. The right size depends on the encoder and processing workload. Google’s published pricing is not a guarantee that a given VM will encode your particular stream.
- Billing-period hours: A 30-day planning month has 720 hours; a 31-day month has 744. These are arithmetic conventions, not fixed monthly billing durations or Google-published prices. Use the hours in your actual billing period.
- Persistent disks: Include the boot disk and any disk used for media, logs, or archives. Storage is a separate cost component; it is not included in the VM-instance prices.
- Networking: Google’s network-pricing documentation lists traffic from a VM to YouTube among transfers to specified Google products that have no charge. Do not apply ordinary internet-egress rates to a qualifying stream feed to YouTube. Other destinations and traffic categories can have different rates; check network pricing.
- Other resources: Add snapshots, logging, IP addresses, extra disks, or a backup VM only if your design uses them and the applicable billing rules make them chargeable.
- Discounts and free tier: Google lists discounts and a free tier, but eligibility and fit depend on the account, machine, region, and terms. Do not subtract a discount unless you have confirmed it applies to your setup.
Use the Google Cloud pricing calculator with the actual VM, region, disk, and expected hours. A reliable estimate should state all of those inputs rather than presenting an unqualified monthly total.
Why the title alone cannot produce a dollar figure
“24/7” describes runtime, not the resources required to produce the stream. Two setups can have the same monthly hours but different VM prices because they use different machine types or regions; they can also have different disk and ancillary-resource costs. The stream’s resolution, frame rate, codec, encoder software, scene complexity, and use of hardware acceleration affect workload, but YouTube’s encoder recommendations do not specify a sufficient Compute Engine VM size.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For a useful comparison, hold the region and billing hours constant, list the machine family and size, and show disk type and capacity separately. Then validate encoding performance with the actual software and settings. Do not treat the free-tier e2-micro as a proven fit for continuous encoding without that validation.
Choose stream settings before sizing the VM
YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into different output formats. The VM needs to encode and upload the configured ingest stream; you should not assume it must produce every format viewers may watch. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate, a two-second keyframe interval (maximum four seconds), and supports H.264, H.265, or AV1 video at up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends RTMPS to encrypt the connection to its servers. Check the current YouTube live encoder settings when configuring your encoder.

These are YouTube Help’s published encoder recommendations in 2026, not measured Compute Engine requirements or CPU benchmarks. They do not establish which VM can encode a particular stream. Test your selected VM, encoder, and content before relying on it continuously.
Set up the YouTube stream and plan for long broadcasts
- Check channel eligibility: YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16 years old. These are YouTube requirements, not Compute Engine settings.
- Create the live stream in YouTube: In YouTube Live Control Room, set up the stream and obtain its server URL and stream key. YouTube’s setup instructions explain how to enter these in an encoder: set up a live stream with an encoder.
- Configure the encoder: Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key, choose the output resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and keyframe interval, and use RTMPS if supported by your workflow.
- Test from the selected VM: Confirm that the encoder can maintain the chosen output and that the VM can upload it reliably. A bitrate recommendation is not a sizing guarantee.
- Decide how to handle archives: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not establish that a 24-hour broadcast will be archived as one uninterrupted video. Check YouTube’s current long-stream and archive handling, and decide whether your workflow will restart or accept segmented archives.
Build a defensible cost estimate
For a calculator-style estimate, record the region, VM family and size, disk type and capacity, stream resolution, frame rate, codec, and the exact number of billed hours. Show the VM and disk charges separately, then include only additional resources that the design actually uses. State whether a discount is included and why the account qualifies. Because no particular region, VM, disk, or tested encoder workload is specified here, a single monthly dollar total would imply precision the available inputs do not support.

Common budgeting and setup mistakes
- Using the VM line item as the whole bill: VM-instance prices exclude disks and networking. Include the resources your design requires and check their billing treatment.
- Charging ordinary egress for the YouTube feed: Google lists qualifying VM-to-YouTube transfer as no charge. This does not mean all outbound traffic is free.
- Choosing a VM from resolution alone: Codec, frame rate, encoder software, content complexity, and hardware acceleration all matter. Validate performance rather than assuming a VM size from YouTube’s bitrate table.
- Assuming a 24-hour archive: YouTube’s cited setup guidance covers automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, not a guarantee for one uninterrupted 24-hour archive. Plan and verify the archive workflow.
- Forgetting channel rules: Cloud configuration cannot remove YouTube’s verification, age, or restriction requirements. Copyright and channel-policy compliance remain the creator’s responsibility.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuous YouTube stream from uploaded videos rather than managing a VM and encoder, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The Monthly price is $9.99 per month.
