Its documented default is 30 simultaneous requests per account, with a 60-second window for synchronous generation and a 600-second window for asynchronous jobs. Monthly document volume depends on your plan, and the concurrency limit may be higher for some customers. Those figures describe operating boundaries—not a promise of PDFs per minute. Confirm the limit on your account and benchmark representative documents before sizing a production workload.
What DocRaptor limits apply to bulk PDF generation?
DocRaptor’s limits documentation says it does not impose hard limits on page count, document complexity, input size, or output size, except for hosted documents. That does not mean a document can render indefinitely: synchronous and asynchronous jobs have time windows, concurrent work is limited, and monthly document allowances are plan-defined. See DocRaptor’s current API limits.
| Limit or allowance | Documented value | What it means for a bulk workflow |
|---|---|---|
| Synchronous generation time | 1 minute by default | A request that does not finish within the synchronous window needs a different approach, typically asynchronous generation. |
| Asynchronous generation time | 10 minutes | Async gives a longer render window but still has a maximum duration. |
| Simultaneous requests | 30 by default | Cap client-side parallel submissions at the account’s confirmed limit; DocRaptor says it often increases the limit for larger customers. |
| Hosted-document output size | 100 MB | This limit applies to hosted documents, not a general output-size cap for every API response. |
| Monthly document volume | Plan-defined | Check the current plan and overage terms before forecasting recurring volume. |
The values above are from DocRaptor’s limits documentation accessed in 2026. The sources do not establish a universal requests-per-minute limit, a queue-latency SLA, or a guaranteed number of PDFs per minute. Simple documents may take seconds, while complex documents with external resources or scripts may take several minutes; these are qualitative descriptions, not performance guarantees.
Should you use synchronous or asynchronous generation?
| Mode | Render window | Creation response | Completion handling |
|---|---|---|---|
| Synchronous | 60 seconds | PDF response | The calling request waits for generation. |
| Asynchronous | 600 seconds | A status_id |
Poll the authenticated status endpoint or receive a callback, then handle completion or failure. |
Choose synchronous generation when representative documents consistently finish inside the one-minute window and the caller can wait for the PDF. For longer or variable jobs, enable async. It changes the interaction pattern and extends the render window; it does not remove concurrency constraints or promise higher throughput.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For async work, store each returned status_id and make your status handling idempotent so repeated polls or callbacks do not duplicate downstream work. DocRaptor documents callbacks for completion, but a generation error does not call the success callback. Do not interpret a missing callback as proof that a job is still running or completed: poll status and implement explicit failed-job handling. Details and endpoint behavior are in the asynchronous document creation guide and API reference.
How to organize bulk jobs without overloading the account
- Confirm the account limit. Start with the documented default of 30 simultaneous requests, then verify whether your account has a different limit with DocRaptor.
- Use a client-side concurrency cap. Keep active submissions at or below the confirmed ceiling. Do not treat the default as a guaranteed target if your account’s actual limit is lower.
- Separate submission from completion collection. For async jobs, persist each
status_idwith your own job identifier, poll the authenticated/status/{status_id}endpoint or process callbacks, and record terminal success or failure. - Make retries deliberate. Add a retry and backoff policy for transient failures in your application. DocRaptor’s reviewed documentation does not prescribe a specific retry schedule, so choose one that fits your workload and avoids resubmitting a document that has already succeeded.
- Measure your own templates. Test realistic page counts, scripts, and asset loads in the intended account. Record render duration and failures before forecasting batch completion time.
These are application design practices based on the documented async workflow and concurrency limit, not a DocRaptor-managed bulk queue or throughput guarantee.

How to reduce avoidable rendering time
DocRaptor identifies external asset requests as a common slow part of PDF generation. Apply the following selectively; their benefit depends on the document and its dependencies. The vendor’s recommendations are in its asset speed optimization guide.
- Inline CSS and JavaScript when practical to reduce external fetches.
- Embed images as data URIs where appropriate, and reduce image and asset sizes.
- Remove unused assets and avoid loading resources the rendered document does not need.
- Disable JavaScript processing when the document does not rely on it.
- For production jobs, remove the test flag; test PDFs are watermarked.
- Consider hosting assets in the U.S., near DocRaptor’s AWS East infrastructure, as its guide recommends.
Two API options address particular asset-fetching cases, not overall PDF rendering duration: prince_options[no_parallel_downloads] can help when an asset host applies strict rate limiting, and the external resource timeout defaults to 10 seconds and can be configured up to 60 seconds. Increasing an asset timeout can allow a slow resource more time to load; it is not a way to extend the synchronous generation window.

How to plan quotas, overages, and hosted documents
Monthly document allowances and overage charges depend on the plan. Because the amounts can change, check the current overage terms rather than relying on a rate copied into an old estimate. The API overview describes test documents as unlimited on all plans and excluded from monthly limits; test PDFs are watermarked, and hosted test documents have special restrictions. Verify the terms applicable to your account before using test mode to estimate production costs.
Hosted documents are a paid add-on with separate limits and billing behavior. The documented hosted-output size limit is 100 MB. The API also provides download and expiration controls; use them when public availability duration or downloads affect cost or exposure. Check current hosted-document terms before relying on a particular price or retention behavior.

What pipeline version should you use?
DocRaptor’s API reference, accessed in 2026, lists pipeline versions 6, 7, 8, 9, 9.2, 10, and 10.1. It identifies 10.1 as the default and maps it to Prince 15.1 and JavaScript engine 2. Treat those as documentation values that can change. If you want to move to another pipeline, test it with representative documents using the request parameter before changing the dashboard default; rendering differences can affect layout and output.

| Symptom | Likely explanation | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Synchronous request reaches its time limit | The PDF did not finish inside the default 60-second window. | Use async for the job, then retrieve completion through status polling or a callback. Separately reduce unnecessary asset and script work. |
| Async job has no success callback | DocRaptor does not call the success callback for a generation error. | Check the authenticated status endpoint and handle failed states explicitly instead of waiting indefinitely. |
| Asset loads are slow or fail | External resources may be slow, oversized, unused, or rate-limited by their host. | Trim or inline assets where appropriate; for a rate-limited host, consider prince_options[no_parallel_downloads]. Review the external resource timeout for the specific asset-fetch issue. |
| Bulk submissions encounter capacity problems | The client may exceed the account’s simultaneous-request limit. | Reduce client-side concurrency and confirm the account-specific limit with DocRaptor; do not assume every account has a raised limit. |
| Costs exceed the forecast | Usage may exceed the plan allowance, or hosted documents may incur separate charges. | Compare actual usage with current plan and overage terms, and review hosted-document download and expiration settings. |
| PDF layout changes after a pipeline update | The rendering engine or JavaScript behavior may differ between pipelines. | Pin or test the intended pipeline on representative templates before changing production defaults. |
