Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf every GrabzIt screenshot request times out, first check the network route from the application host to api.grabz.it. GrabzIt says a firewall or host network configuration is the most likely cause. If only particular pages are slow or blank, investigate how those pages load; if a capture completes but your app never receives it, check callback reachability and capture status.
Identify which part of the request is failing
A timeout can describe different failures: the app may not reach GrabzIt’s API, it may be waiting synchronously for a capture, a target page may be slow to render, or a completed result may not reach the callback. Establish which pattern fits before changing capture settings.

When every GrabzIt API request times out
Start with outbound connectivity from the machine or network running your application. GrabzIt identifies a firewall or network configuration issue as the most likely cause of requests timing out. It notes that a web host may apply a rule automatically, particularly after many API requests. This is a likely explanation, not proof that your host is blocking the API.
- Run your connectivity test from the affected application host or its network, not just from a laptop on a different connection.
- Ask the hosting provider or network administrator whether outbound access to
api.grabz.itis blocked or rate-limited. - If a rule is blocking the domain, ask the provider to unblock it, then retry the same request from the same environment.
- Record the exact error, timestamp, host or network, and whether a direct outbound connection to the API domain succeeds. Share those details with the provider or GrabzIt support if the failure remains.
GrabzIt’s support article says, “The most likely issue is a firewall or network configuration issue; this may have been done automatically by your web host, especially if you have been making many requests to our API.” Read the timeout support article.

When the caller waits too long for a capture
Check whether your application is using synchronous retrieval. GrabzIt’s Python documentation describes SaveTo as synchronous: the caller waits while the screenshot is created. GrabzIt also says a single SaveTo call makes a request to its servers every three seconds. Avoid adding a second tight polling loop around a call that already waits this way.
Use asynchronous retrieval when the app can process completion later
For server-side applications that can accept a callback, GrabzIt’s Python documentation recommends asynchronous Save retrieval rather than making the application wait and repeatedly poll. The app can return to its normal work while the capture is processed, then handle completion through a callback. The exact code depends on the language client and callback setup; follow the matching GrabzIt API documentation for your implementation.

GrabzIt explains the benefit this way: “This stops your app having to wait while a screenshot is created, and because it eliminates the need to repeatedly poll GrabzIt could potentially be faster.”
When synchronous retrieval may still fit
A synchronous call can be appropriate when the application must return the result immediately and can tolerate waiting, or in desktop and localhost scenarios where a public callback is unavailable. It does not fix a blocked outbound route, and it should not be mistaken for a target page rendering delay.

Check callback delivery and capture status
An asynchronous capture can be created without your application successfully receiving its result. The callback endpoint must be accessible from the public internet; a handler available only on localhost cannot be reached by GrabzIt’s service.
- Use a publicly reachable callback URL and confirm that the deployed handler accepts requests from outside your local development machine.
- Log the capture
idand callback fields such asmessageandtargeterror. - If your language client supports status queries, use them to distinguish a capture that is still processing from one that finished with an error.
For callback parameters and status-related guidance, see GrabzIt’s callback support article.

When only particular target pages are slow or blank
A slow target page is different from an API connection timeout. JavaScript-heavy pages or content that appears after the initial load may need additional time before capture. GrabzIt documents a delay option and a wait-for-element option that can wait for a CSS-selected HTML element to appear. These options require a premium package and have a maximum wait of 30 seconds. GrabzIt advises against unnecessarily long waits because they can reduce capture priority when work is queued.
Choose the smallest readiness condition that works
- If the page needs a predictable short amount of time to render, try a short delay.
- If a particular piece of content signals that the page is ready, wait for that relevant element instead of adding a long blanket delay.
- Use the shortest wait that reliably captures the required content; do not assume the maximum wait is a recommended default.
For blank or white output, a timeout is not the only possible explanation. GrabzIt also identifies delayed content, SSL problems, and invalid content as possible causes. Its support guidance says a delay of 3000 milliseconds is usually enough for delayed content. If a short wait does not help, investigate SSL and the validity or accessibility of the target page rather than continually increasing the delay. See delayed-capture guidance and blank-capture guidance.

Practical troubleshooting checklist
- All target URLs fail: test outbound access from the application host and ask the host to check for blocking or rate-limiting of
api.grabz.it. - The request remains open during capture: identify whether the client uses synchronous
SaveTo; avoid duplicating its polling, and consider asynchronous retrieval if your app supports callbacks. - Only one or a few URLs fail: check whether their content is delayed, whether an element must appear before capture, and whether SSL or page content is causing blank output.
- The capture is not returned to the app: verify that the callback is public and inspect the capture ID and callback error fields; query status if supported.
- The cause remains unclear: preserve the exact error and timestamp, identify the host or network used, and note whether a direct outbound connection to the API domain works before contacting the host or GrabzIt support.
Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is simply to get a website screenshot rather than troubleshoot a browser-capture pipeline, ScreenshotNeo offers a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return an image or PDF; the example below saves a WebP screenshot. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses include X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a blank screenshot mean the GrabzIt API timed out?
No. A blank result can be associated with delayed content, SSL problems, or invalid content; a timeout and a blank capture are distinct symptoms.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCan GrabzIt’s callback work with a localhost URL?
No. The callback must be reachable from the public internet.
How long can GrabzIt’s documented delay or wait-for-element option run?
The documented maximum is 30 seconds, and these options require a premium package.
