Keep the username and password in Make’s credential fields—not in a URL or custom header. This retrieves the server’s HTTP response; it is not the same as opening and rendering the page in a browser.
Set up a Basic Auth request in Make

In your Make scenario, add HTTP > Make a request. These steps refer to the current HTTP app, version 4. A legacy scenario using HTTP version 3 may show different settings. Make’s HTTP app guide documents the module and its options.

Set Authentication type to Basic Auth. Create a keychain or select an existing one, then enter the username and password required by the protected site. Follow the site’s instructions: its username field may expect an identifier and its password field may expect an API key rather than a person’s usual login credentials. See Make’s Basic Auth instructions.

https://. Make’s HTTP app only allows HTTPS and rejects unverified self-signed certificates. Choose GET to retrieve the page response. Leave the request body empty unless the destination specifically requires one.

Set Parse response to Yes if you want Make to expose structured response fields for mapping into later modules. Save and run the module, then inspect its output bundle before configuring downstream steps.
What Make returns—and what it does not
The HTTP module makes a request to a server and returns its response. Parsing can make data in that response easier to map, but it does not turn the request into a browser session. Make’s documentation does not describe this module as executing page JavaScript or completing interactive browser challenges. If the useful page content is rendered client-side, or access depends on a form login, SSO, or an interactive check, a Basic Auth GET may not return what you see after signing in through a browser.
Choose the authentication method the site requires
Basic Auth is appropriate only when the target accepts a username-and-password pair using that method. Make’s HTTP app also supports API key and OAuth 2.0 authentication; use the method specified by the target service. Form-based login, session cookies, and SSO are different flows and should not be treated as Basic Auth.

Basic Auth encodes the username and password as base64(username:password). Base64 is encoding, not encryption, so use HTTPS to protect credentials in transit. Make’s HTTPS-only requirement is especially important for this reason.
Redirects and credential maintenance
When Allow redirects is enabled, Make’s HTTP v4 module can follow up to 10 redirects. If the protected URL redirects to a sign-in page or another host, inspect the response status and destination behavior; a successful request to the original URL does not necessarily mean the protected page was returned.
Make stores HTTP Basic Auth credentials in keychains. You can manage them in the Keys section; updating a key applies to modules that use it. See Make’s keychain help article.
Troubleshoot a failed or unexpected response

401 or 403 response: Confirm the site supports Basic Auth and that the keychain contains the exact username and password or credential values it expects. If its documentation specifies an API key, OAuth, or another flow, configure that instead.

You receive a sign-in page instead of the protected page: Check whether the request was redirected. The site may use a browser-based login, cookies, or SSO rather than Basic Auth; inspect the returned status and redirect behavior.

Certificate error: Make requires HTTPS and rejects unverified self-signed certificates. Use a destination with a certificate Make can verify rather than assuming the module will accept an untrusted certificate.

The response lacks text visible in your browser: The page may generate that content with JavaScript. The HTTP request retrieves a server response; it does not establish that browser-side code or interactive checks ran.

Later modules cannot map the content: Enable Parse response when structured fields are useful, rerun the module, and inspect the response bundle to see what Make actually received.

A saved scenario shows different controls: Check whether it uses the legacy HTTP version 3 app. Make identifies HTTP v4 as the newer app; version 3 is the legacy option.
