If html.to.design captures a page but will not put it in Figma, first identify whether the failure is installation, capture, transfer, or file import. For a failed direct handoff, save the capture as .h2d and import it through the plugin’s File tab. Public pages can also be imported by URL through the plugin’s Web tab; pages that require a login or a particular browser session should be captured with the extension.
Find which step is failing
The extension, browser, Figma plugin, and imported file are separate parts of the workflow. A fix for one stage will not necessarily solve another. The official instructions describe the available handoffs and file formats, but do not give a universal diagnosis for every error message.
- It will not install: check Chrome and device restrictions.
- It installs but will not capture: confirm the extension is enabled and review any browser access prompt.
- It captures but does not appear in Figma: check Figma sign-in and the plugin’s Extension tab, then use a local
.h2dfile as a fallback. - The plugin rejects a file or imports an incomplete page: confirm the file type and whether its external resources can be reached.
If the extension will not install
Google’s general Chrome Web Store guidance recommends installing from a computer, updating Chrome or the Chromium-based browser, and checking whether a work or school administrator restricts extensions. Do not try to install it in Incognito or Guest mode. On a managed device, ask the administrator whether installation is allowed; these are general checks, not a guaranteed product-specific fix. If capture works but the page does not reach Figma
- Sign in to Figma while capturing. The vendor says direct sending requires the user to be logged into Figma.
- Open Figma and the html.to.design plugin. The capture may import automatically or appear in the plugin’s Extension tab, where it can be imported.
- If direct sending still does not work, save the capture locally as
.h2d. In the plugin, open the File tab and drop the file into its import area. The vendor recommends.h2dbecause it carries the information needed to recreate the webpage.
The Chrome Web Store listing says the extension needs Chrome debugging features to map the browser view into Figma. If Chrome presents an access prompt, check that the extension is enabled and that the requested browser feature is available. That disclosure describes a dependency; it does not establish a single cause or a universal permission-fix sequence. Chrome Web Store listing.

Choose the import route that matches the page

The extension is the documented option for pages that depend on a login, local access, or a particular browser state. The public-URL route and extension route are not interchangeable for every page. html.to.design documentation.
If a local file is rejected or imports incompletely
The plugin’s File tab supports .h2d, .html/.htm, webpage .zip, .eml/.emlx/.msg, and .mhtml/.mht. Prefer .h2d when you have a capture from the extension. When an HTML import lacks images, CSS, or JavaScript, those resources may not be publicly reachable; the vendor recommends using the browser extension in that situation. What the extension does—and does not require
The Chrome Web Store listing presents the extension as a companion to the Figma plugin for certain features, while also saying clipboard copying can be pasted directly into a Figma canvas without running the plugin. It also discloses the need for Chrome debugging features to map a browser page. The required handoff therefore depends on the route: do not assume the plugin must be open for every option, or that a plugin dependency explains every capture failure.
The listing showed version 0.0.206, updated August 31, 2026, when checked on October 3, 2026. Store ratings and user counts are time-sensitive listing figures, not evidence that the extension will work on a particular device.

Which file should I save when direct transfer fails?
Save the extension capture as .h2d and import it through the plugin’s File tab; it is the vendor-recommended format for recreating the page.
