A Chrome launch error does not, by itself, mean Grafana Loki has a logging problem. First identify which process emitted the message: Grafana Image Renderer, Grafana k6 browser, another automation tool, or a Loki process. Each has its own browser configuration, and a fix for one component may not apply to another.
First identify the component that is failing
Record the exact error text and the feature or command that triggered it. Also note the Grafana, Loki, renderer, or automation-tool versions; operating system; deployment method; and operating-system account running the process. These details help distinguish a missing executable from a Loki connection or query problem.
- If the error appears while exporting a dashboard image or rendering a panel, investigate Grafana Image Renderer.
- If it appears during a browser automation run, check that automation tool’s browser configuration.
- If it appears during a Loki query or data-source connection, investigate the Loki connection or query instead of changing Chrome settings.
Grafana’s Loki data source troubleshooting guide covers data-source connection, query, and configuration issues; it does not cover troubleshooting the Loki service itself. A browser-launch error alone is not evidence of an ingestion, storage, or LogQL fault.
Fix Chrome discovery in Grafana Image Renderer
For Grafana Image Renderer, the browser executable must be available in the renderer’s own runtime environment. Installing Chrome on the host does not make it available inside a separate container. Check the path and permissions as the same operating-system user that runs the renderer.

Verify the executable and configure its path
- Enter the renderer’s container or runtime environment, if it runs separately from Grafana, and verify that a Chromium-compatible browser executable is installed and accessible to the renderer’s service account.
- Check that the executable matches the runtime’s operating-system architecture and that required libraries are present.
- If automatic discovery fails, configure Grafana Image Renderer with
--browser.pathset to the actual executable path. Follow the configuration method for your renderer deployment and version.
Grafana documents Chromium, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, and other Chromium-based browsers as technically compatible with the Chrome DevTools Protocol. Its documentation says, “Only Chromium is officially supported.” See Grafana’s image-rendering troubleshooting documentation for the applicable browser and runtime guidance.
Check installation and Puppeteer cache errors
A missing-browser message can mean the browser was never installed, or that a Puppeteer-based renderer is looking in a different cache directory than the one containing the browser. A historical issue reported Could not find Chrome (ver. 116.0.5845.96) and cited both absent installation and a misconfigured Puppeteer cache path as possible causes. That version and the issue’s /home/grafana/.cache/puppeteer path are examples from the report, not current universal requirements or defaults. See the reported renderer issue.

If the error names a browser version, compare it with what the installed renderer or tool expects. Confirm that the corresponding browser is installed in the renderer’s environment and that its configured cache path is correct for the service account.
If Chrome is found but will not start
A valid executable path rules out only a discovery problem. The browser can still fail at startup because of Linux or container restrictions, sandbox configuration, shared-memory limits, namespaces, or missing system libraries. Read the renderer logs for the specific failure before changing security settings.

- Check whether the container or service has the capabilities and virtualization features required by its deployment.
- Review applicable seccomp and AppArmor profiles, particularly in Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, or restricted Linux environments.
- Use Grafana’s documented
--browser.sandboxoption and custom browser flags only in line with the failure and deployment requirements.
Grafana’s troubleshooting documentation includes --no-sandbox as an example flag, but it is not a universal fix. Disabling browser sandboxing changes the security posture and may not address the cause. Prefer resolving the specific runtime restriction while preserving the protections required by your environment.
Use the setting for the tool that launches the browser
Browser-path settings are not interchangeable. Grafana Image Renderer documents --browser.path; Grafana k6 browser documents K6_BROWSER_EXECUTABLE_PATH as an executable-path override. Check the documentation for the component and version that produced the error before copying a flag or environment variable. See the Grafana k6 browser options documentation.

If your goal is to capture a website rather than troubleshoot a local browser runtime, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot or PDF through one API request. Its API accepts a URL and can return PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; the complete parameters and response details are in the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
cURL example, using the documented request pattern:
Best Value
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; those steps can be disabled. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, with response headers indicating the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server offers screenshot and PDF tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

| Symptom | Likely area to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| “Could not find Chrome” or an equivalent missing-browser message | Browser absent from the launcher’s runtime, wrong executable path, or Puppeteer cache mismatch | Verify installation and permissions inside the renderer environment; set --browser.path for Grafana Image Renderer when discovery fails. |
| The message names a specific Chrome version | Installed browser may not match the version expected by the installed tool | Check the renderer or tool version and its expected browser installation; do not treat a version from an old issue as a current requirement. |
| The executable exists but the browser exits during startup | Sandbox, container security profile, system library, or other runtime restriction | Inspect logs and deployment security settings before changing sandbox flags or capabilities. |
| A Loki query or data-source connection fails without a renderer event | Loki URL or API path, tenancy header, credentials, network, TLS, query syntax, or WebSocket configuration | Follow the Loki data-source troubleshooting path rather than changing browser settings. |
When the error really comes from Loki
The available Grafana guidance establishes browser-launch troubleshooting for Image Renderer and k6 browser, and separates Loki data-source problems from Loki service deployment. It does not establish a Chrome-launch procedure for a Loki executable itself. If logs identify Loki or an extension as the launcher, retain the exact message and component/version details and consult documentation or an issue specific to that component before applying renderer or k6 settings.
