Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUse Selenium’s explicit wait to pause until the page reaches the state your next step actually needs—such as a result becoming visible or a loading indicator disappearing. A navigation reaching document.readyState == "complete" does not guarantee that JavaScript-driven or lazy-loaded content has finished rendering. There is no universal selector or timeout that proves every page is done.
Why page readiness does not mean lazy content is ready
Selenium navigation waits for a configured document readiness state, normally complete. That state concerns resources declared in the HTML; scripts can continue to change the page afterward. If the next action depends on content fetched or rendered later, the element may not yet exist when navigation returns. See Selenium’s waiting strategies.
An explicit wait repeatedly checks a condition and returns when it becomes truthy, or raises a timeout if the condition does not become true in time. The Python API documents until() as waiting until the method returns a value that is not False. Its WebDriverWait constructor defaults to a 0.5-second polling interval and ignores NoSuchElementException by default. These defaults are documented in the Selenium Python WebDriverWait API.
Wait for the condition your next step requires
Choose a condition based on what the script will do, not on a generic idea of “loaded.” Selenium’s expected conditions include presence, visibility, text, title, and staleness checks.

- Built-In Mic: The built-in microphone lets others hear you clearly during video calls
- Easy Plug-And-Play: The Brio 101 works with most video calling platforms, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet—no hassle; it just works
- Presence: use when the element must exist in the DOM, for example before reading an attribute or locating a target.
- Visibility: use when the element must be displayed before reading visible text or interacting with it.
- Text or title: use when a known text value or page title is the meaningful signal.
- Staleness: use when a previously located element should be detached after a refresh or replacement.
- Custom condition: use when the application exposes a more specific loading state, such as an app-level status or a result count.
The appearance of one matching element may be enough for a task, but it does not prove that an infinite or incrementally loaded list is complete. “Done” must be defined for the target page and the task.
Python example: wait for result elements
This example waits after the action that triggers loading, then reads the text of matching elements. Replace the illustrative CSS selector and timeout with values appropriate to the target page; the example has not been verified against a particular site.
from selenium.webdriver.common.by import By
from selenium.webdriver.support import expected_conditions as EC
from selenium.webdriver.support.wait import WebDriverWait
wait = WebDriverWait(driver, 15)
# After the action that triggers loading, wait for the content needed by capture.
# Replace the locator and condition with ones that describe the target page.
items = wait.until(
EC.presence_of_all_elements_located((By.CSS_SELECTOR, ".result-card"))
)
captured_text = [item.text for item in items]
presence_of_all_elements_located succeeds when matching elements are present when checked. It does not certify that a dynamically growing list has reached its final size. If you need displayed content, use a visibility condition instead; if you need a page-specific signal, write a custom callable for it.

Adapt the wait to the page’s loading behavior
For a single lazy-loaded element
Identify the element needed by the next operation and wait for its presence or visibility. If it appears only after scrolling, perform the page’s relevant scroll or interaction first, then start the wait. Avoid assuming that a selector suitable for one site applies to another.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor content that replaces an earlier element
When an update replaces a previously located node, using the old element reference can result in a stale-element error. A staleness condition can wait for the old node to detach; then wait by locator for the replacement. Locator-based conditions can locate the current element rather than relying on an obsolete reference.
For infinite scroll or an expanding list
Use a loop around the site’s actual trigger—often a deliberate scroll—and a stopping rule that matches the task. Possible page-specific signals include a known end marker, a loading indicator disappearing, a stable expected count, or no new items after a scroll-and-check cycle. These are implementation patterns, not universal guarantees. If the page exposes no observable end condition and the task does not define a stopping point, the script may not be able to prove that all content has loaded.

Explicit waits versus implicit waits
| Approach | Scope | What it expresses | Diagnostic value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Implicit wait | Global setting for element-location calls | How long element searches may wait; it does not name the page state you need | Less specific when diagnosing which loading condition failed |
| Explicit wait | Used at the point a particular condition is needed | A named expected condition or custom page-specific rule | More directly ties a timeout to the condition the next operation required |
Selenium warns: “Do not mix implicit and explicit waits.” Combining them can make elapsed time unpredictable; Selenium’s documentation illustrates that nominal 10-second implicit and 15-second explicit waits may time out after 20 seconds. Prefer explicit waits for this task and avoid setting an implicit wait alongside them. See Selenium’s wait guidance.
Choose and handle timeouts deliberately
The 15-second value in the example is illustrative, not a universal recommendation. Set the timeout based on the application and environment, and keep the condition specific enough that failure tells you what was missing. A timeout means the condition did not become true within the limit; it is not evidence that loading completed.
Catch TimeoutException only when you can take an intentional recovery path—for example, report the missing signal, retry an operation that is safe to repeat, or mark the capture as failed. Do not silently treat a timeout as a successful capture. The Python API documents the timeout behavior in its WebDriverWait reference.

Common failures and fixes
- The next lookup says the element cannot be found: navigation readiness may have occurred before client-side rendering. Wait for the element’s presence after the action that triggers its load.
- The element exists, but reading or interacting with it fails: presence alone does not mean it is visible. Wait for visibility if the task requires displayed content.
- The script captures only some list entries: presence of the current matches is not proof that an expanding or infinite list is complete. Add the page’s actual trigger and a defensible stopping rule.
- A stale-element error appears during an update: the page may have replaced the node. Wait for the old element to become stale where appropriate, then locate the current element again.
- The timeout happens inconsistently: check whether the chosen condition is the real completion signal and whether the timeout fits the application and execution environment. Avoid combining implicit and explicit waits.
- The script continues after a timeout as if the capture succeeded: handle the timeout as a failure or explicit alternate branch; do not infer completeness from it.

If you need an image or PDF rather than Selenium-controlled interaction, ScreenshotNeo offers a website screenshot API and MCP server. A GET request can return PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; its clean-shot flow accepts consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and MCP clients.
For example, this cURL request saves a WebP screenshot of Stripe. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and response details.

Does `document.readyState == “complete”` mean all lazy-loaded content is present?
No. It describes document readiness, not completion of later JavaScript-driven changes or content that loads as the page is used.

Does `presence_of_all_elements_located` wait until every item in an infinite list has loaded?
No. It checks for matching elements at the time the condition succeeds; an expanding list needs a page-specific stopping rule.
What polling interval does Python `WebDriverWait` use by default?
The Selenium 4.50.0 Python API documents a default polling interval of 0.5 seconds.
