Use CaptureKit from a Node.js backend with a GET request to https://api.capturekit.dev/v1/capture, the page address in the url query parameter, and your API key in the x-api-key header. What you need before making the request
- A CaptureKit account, an API key created in its dashboard at app.capturekit.dev, and credits. See the CaptureKit getting-started documentation for current account and key setup.
- A Node.js server-side runtime with the global
fetchAPI available. Keep the key in a server-side environment variable; never place it in browser JavaScript or a public repository. CaptureKit explicitly warns against exposing API keys in client-side code or public repositories (CaptureKit Docs, Introduction). - A publicly reachable page URL to capture, unless the endpoint’s current documentation specifies a supported way to access a private page.
Make a screenshot request in Node.js
This example builds the query safely with URL, sends the key as a header, checks for an HTTP error before reading the response, then saves the returned bytes as a PNG. It is a server-side request pattern based on the documented endpoint, not a claim of tested execution.

Credits, pricing and India-specific considerations
The capture endpoint documentation says one screenshot call costs one credit. CaptureKit’s general billing documentation distinguishes successful synchronous calls from errors, which are generally free subject to endpoint-specific exceptions; do not assume every HTTP status has identical billing treatment. This example is synchronous and does not use asynchronous capture or polling. Check the current CaptureKit pricing page for live plan allowances and prices: as listed when reviewed in 2026, the page advertises 100 free credits and paid monthly tiers, including plans with 1,000, 10,000 and 50,000 credits. These vendor-listed allowances and prices can change.
For a workload estimate, start with expected successful screenshot calls in a month, since a synchronous screenshot call consumes one credit. If you need to upload results to S3 rather than save or serve them through your own application, consult the endpoint’s documented S3 parameters. The available documentation does not establish India-specific taxes, payment methods, regional latency, or data residency; verify any of those requirements directly with the provider rather than inferring them from a global plan page.

Troubleshoot common response errors

CaptureKit’s introduction says asynchronous calls, where supported, have separate billing behavior and polling is free. This code does not enable asynchronous mode, so do not apply those polling terms to this synchronous request.
Migration note: use the current endpoint and header
Older examples may use a different authentication parameter or endpoint path. CaptureKit’s February 2026 migration announcement says current endpoints use the /v1/ path, the API base remains https://api.capturekit.dev, and the new dashboard issues a new key. For this example, use https://api.capturekit.dev/v1/capture and the x-api-key header—not an older access_key query parameter. See the CaptureKit documentation for current version details.
