First check whether the text is visible in the same browser session immediately before capture; that tells you whether to investigate the page, capture timing, or screenshot output.
First determine where the text disappears
A screenshot records rendered pixels, not a structured text result. If the text is missing from the image, investigate page rendering and capture settings. If the image visibly contains the text but a separate text or accessibility field is empty, investigate that extraction feature instead.
- Open or inspect the page in the same browser session used for the API capture.
- Check whether the expected text exists, is visible, and is not clipped, covered, or hidden.
- Compare the visible page with the returned image. If the text is already absent in the page, start with application data and rendering; if it appears on the page but not in the image, continue through the capture checks below.
If your goal is to verify or read page text rather than preserve its appearance, inspect the DOM or use a text or accessibility snapshot. Playwright MCP distinguishes taking a screenshot from reading page content: Playwright MCP documentation.
Wait for the page’s actual content-ready state
A successful navigation does not necessarily mean a client-rendered application has finished loading its data and displaying the text. Configure the capture to wait for the application-specific condition that means the target content is ready. Where you can inspect the page, verify the text is visible before taking the image. The right readiness condition depends on the page. It might be a target element becoming visible or an application-specific signal. Do not assume that adding a long fixed delay is the best fix: it can waste time when a page is ready quickly and still fail when a slower page needs more time.
Check that the intended font is available
A remote capture browser may not have the same fonts as your local computer. If the intended web font is missing or has not loaded, text can look different, wrap into a different layout, be clipped, or appear absent. Confirm that the font is loaded in the capture environment and that the page’s font request succeeds.

For Cloudflare Browser Run, Cloudflare documents that screenshots and PDFs use fonts available in that environment and explains how to inject a font that is not preinstalled: Cloudflare Browser Run documentation. This behavior is specific to that environment; check the font setup for whichever screenshot API you use.
Make sure the capture includes the text
Text outside the selected viewport or target element will not be included in that image. Check whether you requested a viewport screenshot, a full-page screenshot, or an element screenshot, and verify the selector, clipping, and viewport dimensions. - Viewport capture: Check whether the text is below the visible page area or outside the viewport dimensions.
- Element capture: Confirm that the selector identifies the intended element and that the text is inside its bounds.
- Full-page capture: Check whether the page’s content is present below the fold and whether lazy-loaded content has appeared before capture.
As a diagnostic, compare the same page using viewport, element, and full-page captures. If only one scope omits the text, focus on its bounds and capture settings.
Control differences between browser environments
A local browser and a remote screenshot browser can differ in operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode. Those differences can change rendering. Playwright recommends using the same environment when consistent screenshots matter: Playwright visual comparisons documentation.

For a repeatable comparison, record and hold constant the browser and version, operating system or container image, headless mode, viewport, and relevant browser settings. Compare captures only after those conditions match as closely as your service permits.
Use a diagnostic sequence
- Verify the page: Check that the text is present and visible in the capture session. If it is absent there too, investigate the application’s data and client-side rendering.
- Wait for readiness: Wait for the page’s content-ready signal or for the target text to become visible instead of treating navigation completion as proof that rendering is finished.
- Verify fonts: Check that the expected family is available and loaded in the remote browser.
- Compare capture scopes: Try viewport, full-page, and element capture as appropriate; verify selector, bounds, and viewport size.
- Match environments: Record the browser, version, host environment, headless mode, viewport, and relevant settings, then keep them fixed for comparison.
- Separate image output from text extraction: If the pixels show the text but a separate text field does not, troubleshoot the extraction or accessibility output rather than the screenshot itself.
