To hard refresh the current Microsoft Edge tab, press Ctrl+Shift+R or Shift+F5 on Windows. On Mac, press Command+Shift+R. Put keyboard focus in the affected Edge tab first. These shortcuts reload the page while ignoring cached content; they do not delete your browser data. Microsoft Support documents these shortcuts.
Edge hard-refresh shortcuts by operating system

Click the page or otherwise focus the affected Edge tab, then press the shortcut. Microsoft lists Ctrl+R and F5 on Windows, and Command+R on Mac, as ordinary reload commands; those are not the documented hard-refresh combinations.
What a hard refresh does—and does not do
A hard refresh asks Edge to reload the current page while ignoring cached content. It is useful when a page appears stale or a recent change is not showing. It is a reload, not a browser-data cleanup: it does not by itself clear all cached files, cookies, history, or other browsing data.
If the page still looks wrong, clear cached files
Microsoft says clearing cached images and files can sometimes fix display problems. This is a separate step from using the hard-refresh shortcut:

- In Edge, select Settings and more (the three-dot menu).
- Go to History, then select Open history page.
- Select Delete browsing data.
- Set the time range to All time.
- Select Cached images and files. Review the other selected data types and deselect anything you do not intend to remove.
- Select Clear now, then reload the page.
Microsoft’s history guidance distinguishes deleting data on the current device from deleting it across synced devices. Check the available sync options and the scope shown in Edge before confirming if you want to avoid affecting other devices. See Microsoft’s instructions for viewing and deleting Edge history.
When to check the site or network instead
If the page fails after a hard refresh and clearing cached files, open it in another browser. If it fails there too, the cause may be the website or your network rather than Edge’s cache. Microsoft suggests restarting your modem or router or contacting the site owner in that situation. Its broader Edge troubleshooting guidance covers these next checks.
