Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf your Wowza-to-YouTube stream has no sound, find the first point in the chain where audio disappears: the source and encoder, Wowza, YouTube ingest, or viewer playback. A live picture or an active status does not prove an audio track is reaching YouTube. Check each available preview and diagnostic before changing unrelated settings or replacing equipment.
First, identify which Wowza product you use
Wowza Video (the cloud service) and Wowza Streaming Engine (separate media-server software) use different workflows. Follow the branch that matches your setup; do not look for Streaming Engine screens if you are using Wowza Video.
- Wowza Video: Its YouTube workflow configures an external service/output in the stream’s Components area. Check the Wowza preview and YouTube Live Control Room preview. YouTube performs transcoding in this described workflow. Wowza’s Wowza Video to YouTube guide.
- Wowza Streaming Engine: The YouTube target is configured in the application, using an incoming source stream for delivery. That source must include audio; Wowza describes adding an audio track when the source encoder cannot provide one. Wowza’s Streaming Engine to YouTube guide.
If you are unsure which product you have, check the service or software name in your Wowza account or installation before following product-specific steps.
Trace the audio from source to viewer
Work downstream one checkpoint at a time. The first checkpoint that is silent narrows where to investigate; a preview is evidence, not proof of the exact cause.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Source and encoder: Listen to the encoder’s output or review a local recording. Confirm the intended microphone, mixer, desktop audio, or other source is selected, unmuted, and routed into the encoder. Review encoder errors and CPU load. YouTube notes that if the encoder output sounds healthy, an outbound connection issue may be involved. YouTube: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.
- Wowza input or preview: For Streaming Engine, inspect the incoming stream’s status and details and confirm audio is present. For Wowza Video, check its preview. If the encoder has sound but Wowza does not, focus on source ingest, protocol, codec compatibility, and any processing or transcoding configuration.
- Wowza output and YouTube preview: If Wowza’s preview has sound but YouTube’s does not, inspect the YouTube output/target and YouTube’s ingest diagnostics. In YouTube Studio, open the stream in Live Control Room and check the preview, Health Indicator, and timestamped error messages. YouTube: Live streaming error messages.
- Viewer playback: If the Live Control Room preview has sound, check whether the problem affects all viewers or only one device or player. Verify that player’s volume, mute state, and audio output before changing the stream configuration.
Check YouTube audio format and error messages
For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube’s encoder settings list AAC or MP3 audio. The page recommends 44.1 kHz for stereo and 48 kHz for 5.1 audio; its listed recommended audio bitrates are 128 kbps for stereo and 384 kbps for 5.1. These are YouTube settings guidance, not a diagnosis of your stream. Follow the exact error shown in Live Control Room and the requirements for your current workflow. YouTube encoder settings.
- If YouTube reports no audio, verify the encoder is actually sending an audio track; some encoders have a separate audio-enable setting.
- YouTube’s ingestion error guidance requires one audio stream, not zero or multiple audio streams, and supports one or two channels in that guidance. For its “Incorrect stream format” warning, the page identifies H.264 video and AAC audio. YouTube live streaming error messages.
- Do not assume a codec or sample rate from the symptom alone. Confirm the ingest protocol, encoder output, Wowza configuration, and the current YouTube error before changing format settings.
Streaming Engine: investigate protocol-specific input problems
Streaming Engine supports different audio codecs depending on the ingest protocol. Confirm whether the source reaches it over RTMP, MPEG-TS, or another protocol, then check the incoming stream details and logs for codec or transcoding clues. Wowza’s error documentation notes that an “UNKNOWN” audio codec can indicate a source with no audio; unsupported source codecs or disabled encode blocks can also affect transcoding. These are clues to investigate, not proof of your cause. Wowza troubleshooting guidance.

Only pursue Wowza’s “Fix missing audio (MPEG-TS)” path when the input is MPEG-TS and the evidence points to unaligned AAC audio packets. Do not apply an MPEG-TS remedy to RTMP, Wowza Video, or another ingest type without confirming it applies. Wowza troubleshooting guidance.
Test the correction before the event
- Make a short private or unlisted test with audio and movement similar to the planned stream.
- Check sound at the source or encoder, then at the Wowza input or preview.
- Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and Health Indicator; note any timestamped errors.
- Confirm the test is audible in the viewer playback setup you intend to use.
YouTube recommends testing before an event, checking the preview before going live, and monitoring audio and video quality during the stream. YouTube live stream troubleshooting and Live Control Room error guidance.

Common symptoms and what to check
| What you observe | Where to investigate next |
|---|---|
| Encoder output or local recording is silent | Source selection, mute and routing, encoder audio enablement, encoder errors, and CPU load. |
| Encoder has sound, but Wowza does not | The selected input, ingest protocol, audio codec, and Wowza processing or transcoding configuration. |
| Wowza preview has sound, but YouTube preview does not | The Wowza YouTube output/target and YouTube’s preview, Health Indicator, and timestamped ingest errors. |
| YouTube preview has sound, but a viewer hears none | Whether the issue affects other viewers; then that player’s mute, volume, and audio output. |
| Streaming Engine shows unknown or missing audio | Confirm the source actually contains audio, then check protocol-specific codec and logs. Use MPEG-TS packet-alignment troubleshooting only for a confirmed MPEG-TS input. |
