Not with Vimeo’s documented 24/7 extended-streaming mode. Vimeo can simulcast eligible live events to YouTube, and it can play or schedule prerecorded video as an event. But Vimeo says extended streaming cannot simulcast to other destinations. Those separate features therefore do not provide a documented way to send a continuous 24/7 prerecorded stream from Vimeo to YouTube. If YouTube 24/7 playback is the goal, use a direct-to-YouTube cloud service or an encoder workflow instead.
Why Vimeo’s two capabilities do not combine into one workflow
“Prerecorded video as a live event” and “continuous 24/7 streaming” are distinct Vimeo functions. The first can play a file in a live event; the second is Vimeo’s extended-streaming mode. Vimeo’s documented extended mode does not simulcast to YouTube, so setting up YouTube as an ordinary event destination does not turn that mode into a 24/7 YouTube stream.

If you want to use Vimeo for a YouTube live event
This is suitable for an individual live event, not the unsupported 24/7 combination. Vimeo’s YouTube simulcasting feature requires an eligible plan: Advanced or Premium, or Enterprise with Events. Plan names and feature eligibility can change, so confirm the current Vimeo plan details before subscribing.
Connect YouTube directly
- In the Vimeo event’s Destinations panel, connect the YouTube account you intend to use.
- Check that the correct YouTube destination is selected for the event.
- Start the Vimeo event using the event’s production workflow and confirm the output in YouTube Live Control Room.
Use YouTube RTMP credentials
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule the event and copy its server URL and stream key.
- In the Vimeo event’s Destinations panel, add YouTube as an RTMP destination and enter the copied credentials.
- Start sending the event from Vimeo. For a scheduled YouTube RTMP event, Vimeo says you must manually select Go Live in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Check the YouTube preview and confirm that the event is live. This manual event workflow should not be treated as a 24/7 service.
If you want to play a prerecorded video through Vimeo
For a one-off event, an eligible Vimeo account can select Stream live from an uploaded video and start an event that plays the file. For scheduled prerecorded playback, Vimeo provides a separate workflow in its web-based production tool that can start automatically. That automatic-start option is not available when using external encoders. Vimeo also notes that uploaded captions and subtitles are not shown during this video-as-live playback.

These are event workflows, not a supported way to run the file continuously to YouTube around the clock. Vimeo’s extended mode accepts an RTMP stream, but its documented destination restriction still prevents YouTube simulcasting while that mode is enabled.
For continuous prerecorded playback on YouTube
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. Check Gyre’s current features, pricing, and service availability in India before relying on it; those details are not established here. YouTube also supports the general encoder route: create or schedule a live event, send video to YouTube with an encoder, and verify the preview in Live Control Room.

Before using any route, make sure your channel can livestream. YouTube says a verified channel must have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
Encoder settings and connection checks
- Use a YouTube-supported video codec such as H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), and a keyframe interval of two seconds as recommended by YouTube; do not exceed four seconds. Use AAC or MP3 audio. Confirm the current YouTube encoder guidance for full specifications before configuring a production stream.
- Use the RTMPS endpoint if your encoder supports it. RTMPS carries RTMP over TLS/SSL.
- Make sure available upload capacity exceeds the stream’s combined outgoing bitrate. YouTube recommends retaining 20% headroom; that is general guidance, not a measured speed requirement for India.
- Preview the incoming stream in Live Control Room before taking it live. Test failover and monitor both picture and sound during operation.
Rights and channel eligibility
Only stream videos you have the right to use. A video playing continuously does not by itself establish that the channel or content meets YouTube’s requirements.
