Check two records: AdSense for YouTube shows whether Google withheld U.S. tax from eligible earnings connected to U.S. viewers; India’s Income Tax e-Filing portal shows reported Indian tax credits in Form 26AS and AIS. A lower payout by itself does not prove that Indian TDS was deducted.
First, identify what changed in your payout
Compare finalized earnings with the payment transactions in AdSense for YouTube. Estimated earnings can change because of invalid traffic, copyright claims or disputes, certain ad campaign types, taxes on earnings from U.S. viewers, or policy-related payment holds and deductions. Do not treat every gap between an estimate and a payout as tax withholding.
In AdSense for YouTube, open Settings → Payments to view earnings and recent transactions. On the Transactions page, select All time if you need a longer history. Google says finalized earnings and any applicable withholding are shown in AdSense for YouTube, not YouTube Analytics. Google’s earnings and payment guidance explains the distinction between estimated earnings, finalized earnings, adjustments, and payments.
Check Google’s U.S. tax information in AdSense
- In AdSense for YouTube, go to Payments → Payments info → Manage settings.
- Open United States tax info → Manage tax info.
- Check the tax form status and the withholding rates shown for your account. Google says the status should show Approved when the submitted form has been approved.
- Return to payment transactions and compare any withholding entry with the finalized earnings and payment amount for the relevant period.
Google’s withholding guidance concerns eligible YouTube earnings from U.S. viewers. For creators outside the United States who provide U.S. tax information, Google states a rate range of 0–30% on applicable U.S.-viewer earnings; the rate depends on submitted tax information, account details, and treaty eligibility. In some account situations, failing to provide tax information can result in withholding of up to 24% of worldwide earnings. These are conditional U.S. withholding rules, not a general Indian TDS rate for YouTube creators. See Google’s U.S. tax requirements for YouTube earnings.
Google advises monetizing creators to review their tax information annually. A submitted form expires at the end of the third full calendar year after the year it was signed, and a change in circumstances can also mean it needs to be submitted again. The account’s tax information page is the place to verify its current status and rates. Google’s guidance on U.S. tax information explains form validity and updates.
Check Indian TDS credits in Form 26AS and AIS
- Sign in to the Income Tax e-Filing portal using the relevant taxpayer account and PAN.
- Open Form 26AS and AIS for the financial year that matches the income or payment you are checking.
- Search for reported TDS/TCS entries and relevant tax-payment information. Match the period, amount, and deductor or payer where shown.
- Keep the Indian record separate from the U.S. withholding entry in AdSense. They answer different questions and should not be treated as the same tax credit without evidence.
The Income Tax Department describes Form 26AS as containing TDS/TCS information. AIS also includes TDS/TCS as well as other data, including specified financial transactions and tax payments. Since AY 2023–24, the Department says Form 26AS on TRACES displays TDS/TCS data while other taxpayer information appears in AIS. Consult the Department’s AIS guidance for the portal’s current explanation of those records.
An absent entry does not by itself settle your total tax liability or establish how foreign tax withheld should be treated. Form 26AS and AIS are records of reported information, not a complete decision about an individual’s tax position.

What to do if the records do not match
- Confirm the account, PAN, financial year, and payment date so you are comparing the same period and taxpayer.
- Record the AdSense finalized earnings, transaction entries, U.S. tax form status, and any withholding line or rate shown.
- Check Form 26AS and AIS for the same period, noting reported TDS/TCS and tax-payment information.
- Identify the payer and jurisdiction behind each figure. A U.S. withholding entry is not, by itself, an Indian TDS credit.
- If an Indian TDS credit is missing or incorrect, follow the Income Tax Department’s mismatch guidance and contact the deductor responsible for the entry. If a Google payment record or U.S. withholding entry remains unclear, contact Google support or a qualified tax adviser.
The Department says Form 16A is a quarterly certificate for TDS on income other than salary. It records the amount credited, TDS amount, nature of payment, and deposited TDS. If a credit in your return differs from Form 26AS, official mismatch guidance says to inform the deductor responsible for the deduction; a correction to the deductor’s TDS return or forms may be needed. See the Department’s guidance on TDS credit mismatch.

Keep tax checks separate from payment timing
YouTube’s usual payment schedule is not evidence of withholding. Google says finalized earnings are generally added to the account balance between the 7th and 12th of the month, and payments are generally issued between the 21st and 26th if payment requirements are met. Those windows describe processing and payment timing, not a tax deduction. Check the account transactions for the reason a particular amount changed. See Google’s earnings and payment guidance.

What this check can and cannot establish
AdSense for YouTube can show Google’s U.S. tax form status, applicable withholding information, and payment transactions. Form 26AS and AIS can show Indian tax information reported against the taxpayer. Neither a lower payout nor the absence of one visible tax-credit entry alone determines all Indian tax obligations or the treatment of foreign tax withheld.
YouTube says it cannot provide tax advice. Creators may have tax obligations in their country of residence on monetized YouTube income. For case-specific Indian filing treatment—especially where the payment entity, residency, or business structure matters—confirm with the Income Tax Department or a qualified Indian tax professional. See Google’s tax guidance for YouTube creators.
