Use Indian Standard Time (IST, UTC+05:30) for every public schedule, and treat YouTube’s scheduled stream as an event start—not as a recurring 24/7 automation. You still need an encoder or a verified cloud playout service to send the video, a plan for monitoring and recovery, and a separate way to preserve recordings. YouTube also warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
What “schedule a 24/7 stream” means
YouTube Studio lets you schedule an upcoming live event, publish its watch page, and give viewers a “Notify me” option. Scheduling does not generate the radio program or keep an encoder running. You must provide the video feed and start it through an encoder connected to YouTube Live Control Room.
The reviewed YouTube instructions explain how to schedule and launch an event; they do not establish a recurring schedule that automatically runs forever or guarantee automatic reconnection after a disconnection. Plan those operational responsibilities separately.
Use IST as the schedule’s single time reference
India uses one national reference for this purpose: Indian Standard Time (IST), UTC+05:30. The Department of Consumer Affairs’ 2025 announcement describes IST as based on UTC with a +5:30-hour offset and maintained by CSIR-National Physical Laboratory (Department of Consumer Affairs). Do not create separate regional start times for Indian states.

Write the date, clock time, and zone together—for example, “Starts 12 October 2026 at 8:00 p.m. IST (UTC+05:30).” If you promote the event to viewers outside India, add their local equivalent using a reliable time-zone converter, and label that conversion clearly. Keep IST as the canonical time on the event page and in announcements.
A Department of Consumer Affairs release dated 30 August 2026 says notified IST rules are to take effect 180 days after publication in the Official Gazette; that announcement alone does not establish that the rules are already in force (Department of Consumer Affairs). It does not change the practical scheduling advice here: state IST and its UTC offset explicitly.
Schedule the YouTube event in Live Control Room
- Open the scheduling flow. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live → Manage → Schedule stream. Choose whether to reuse prior settings or create a new scheduled stream.
- Set the event details. Enter a clear title, description, visibility, thumbnail, and the planned start date and time. State IST (UTC+05:30) in the description if viewers may be unsure which zone the time uses.
- Publish the watch page if you want to promote it. Share the upcoming event link. Viewers can opt into the “Notify me” reminder where YouTube offers it.
- Connect the encoder. In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s corresponding fields. YouTube describes the key as the credential used by the encoder to send the feed; treat it like a password and do not post or share it publicly.
- Start before the announced time. Start the encoder, wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room, check that picture and sound are correct, then select Go live when ready. YouTube’s encoder guide describes this preview-then-launch sequence (YouTube: Stream using an encoder).
YouTube recommends preparing the encoder setup at least two hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the event. These are preparation recommendations, not uptime guarantees (YouTube: Live streaming tips).

Choose how to deliver a continuous radio-style broadcast
Locally managed encoder
A local encoder can send a playlist or other prepared program, but the device, software, power, and internet connection become part of the broadcast chain. Decide who will watch for an interruption, how the encoder will be restarted, and what viewers will see during a restart or handoff. Test backup-encoder failover before depending on it.
Cloud playout
A cloud playout service can keep prepared video running without requiring a computer at home to remain on. Before relying on any service, verify its current YouTube compatibility, restart behavior, monitoring responsibilities, content limits, and recording options. “Cloud” by itself does not establish that a service will reconnect or preserve an archive.

Plan the archive separately from the live schedule
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all (YouTube: Archive live streams; YouTube: Stream using an encoder). Do not promise viewers that one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast will appear afterward as a complete replay.

Before going live, verify that local archive files are growing and that storage is sufficient for the planned recording. Prepare an operating and recovery plan
- Name the person or system responsible for checking the stream and its preview or status.
- Write down how to restart the encoder or restore the connection, and who can safely access the stream key.
- Decide what viewers will see or hear during a restart or scheduled handoff.
- Test backup-encoder failover and confirm local recordings are being saved before the event depends on them.
- Set up at least two hours ahead and start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the announced event, following YouTube’s guidance.
- Review YouTube’s copyright rules and ensure you have the rights needed for every track, recording, and visual in the program. A scheduled event or continuous format does not itself grant music rights.
Troubleshoot common scheduling problems
The stream is scheduled, but viewers see no live video
A scheduled event is only the watch page and start plan. Confirm the encoder is running, its stream URL and key match the event in Live Control Room, and an incoming preview appears. Then select Go live in YouTube Studio.
The encoder is sending, but the event has not begun
Check the Live Control Room preview and confirm that you explicitly launched the event with Go live. Starting the encoder and starting the YouTube event are distinct actions in YouTube’s documented workflow.
The stream stops after a connection failure
Scheduling does not establish automatic reconnection. Check the internet connection and encoder status, then follow the restart procedure you prepared. If using a cloud service, confirm its current recovery behavior and YouTube compatibility rather than assuming them.

The replay is missing or incomplete
Check the broadcast duration first. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Use local recordings for preservation, and consider planned shorter segments if a replay is important.
Viewers interpret the start time differently
Put the date, time, and “IST (UTC+05:30)” together wherever you announce the event. India does not need multiple regional schedule times; international viewers may need a clearly labeled local conversion.
