If OBS shows dropped frames while the stream is live, investigate the broadcaster’s connection and encoder settings. If OBS and YouTube show a healthy live stream but some viewers see freezes or a spinner, troubleshoot playback on their devices and networks instead. The available evidence does not identify Indian broadband, a particular provider, or your router as the cause without measurements from your stream.
Is the broadcast dropping, or are viewers buffering?
Signs of a broadcaster-side interruption
Check whether the YouTube live event goes offline and whether OBS’s dropped-frame count rises at the same time. OBS says dropped frames mean the connection to the remote server is unstable or the configured bitrate cannot be sustained. YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health indicator and any error message can help distinguish a connection problem from an encoder configuration problem. OBS connection troubleshooting · YouTube live encoder settings and recommendations
Signs of viewer-side buffering
If the event stays live and OBS has no increasing dropped frames, do not start by lowering the broadcaster’s bitrate. Ask affected viewers to try another device or network and reduce possible wireless interference near their router. If the stream plays normally for other viewers, that is a useful clue that the issue may be on the affected playback path, not proof of a particular cause. Check OBS and YouTube during a controlled test
- Start a test using the same computer, connection, resolution, frame rate, and audio/video setup as the music stream. Include movement and audio similar to the actual broadcast; a static or silent test may not expose the same issues. YouTube advises monitoring stream health and testing with comparable content. YouTube live encoder settings and recommendations
- Watch OBS’s dropped-frame count and YouTube Live Control Room’s health indicator together. Note the time when frames start dropping, when the live event disconnects, and any error text YouTube displays.
- Run an upload-speed test from the streaming computer on the connection being used for the broadcast. YouTube recommends an upload test. Repeat it around the time interruptions normally occur and record the results; one speed test does not establish that an upload will remain stable for a long-running stream. YouTube live encoder settings and recommendations
- Pause heavy competing uploads for the test. This helps isolate the stream’s conditions but does not by itself prove that another device or your provider caused the interruption.
- If the computer is on Wi-Fi, compare with a temporary Ethernet connection. OBS recommends wired Ethernet because Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming. A wired test can help isolate Wi-Fi; it cannot fix or rule out congestion or a problem on the route beyond your home network. OBS connection troubleshooting
Choose a bitrate the connection can sustain
Use the bitrate for your selected codec, resolution, and frame rate—not a single number for every stream. YouTube’s published H.264 figures include these recommendations and minimums; its guidance varies for AV1 and H.265. The figures are encoder-ingest guidance, not a broadband-plan requirement or a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming. YouTube’s checked page does not show a publication date. Choose the codec, resolution, and frame rate first, then leave headroom below upload capacity that you have measured to be stable. OBS’s 2024 connection guide suggests using 75% of total upload speed as a starting bitrate; this is OBS advice, not a YouTube rule, and it does not guarantee stability over 24 hours. If drops rise, test a lower bitrate and monitor OBS and YouTube health again rather than assuming the advertised speed of a broadband plan is available continuously. OBS connection troubleshooting
Correct encoder settings flagged by YouTube
For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. Read the exact Live Control Room error and adjust the setting it identifies. YouTube’s errors can point to bitrate, video or audio format, resolution, frame rate, or keyframe frequency. - 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Bitrate error: Check that the configured bitrate matches YouTube’s guidance for your codec and output, and that the connection can sustain it.
- Keyframe error: Set the interval to two seconds; do not exceed four seconds.
- Audio or video format error: Follow the format named in YouTube’s error rather than changing unrelated settings.
- Resolution or frame-rate error: Check that the encoder output and the settings selected in Live Control Room agree.
After a change, run the controlled test again with comparable audio and movement. Do not change several unrelated settings at once: that makes it harder to identify which change helped.
When to contact your Indian broadband provider
If OBS continues to drop frames during an Ethernet test, your bitrate is below upload capacity that has remained stable in repeated tests, and YouTube’s configuration errors have been addressed, contact your ISP with evidence rather than attributing the issue to broadband generally. OBS notes that congestion or network-route changes can be outside the broadcaster’s control. The available technical guidance does not establish a cause for any particular Indian ISP, city, or plan. - Give support the interruption timestamps and the times of your upload tests.
- Include OBS logs, YouTube Live Control Room health details, and exact error messages.
- Say whether Ethernet changed the result and whether the interruption recurs at particular times.
- Ask the provider to investigate the connection during those periods; a generic speed-test result alone does not identify where the fault lies.
Copyright and continuous music streams
Connection stability is separate from whether a music livestream is authorized to use the recordings. Before running a 24/7 music stream, confirm that you have the necessary rights to the audio and video and review YouTube’s rules for live streaming and monetization. A stable connection cannot prevent a stream from being restricted or removed for rights or policy reasons. Use YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and YouTube channel monetization policies to check the applicable requirements.
