A live camera feed still needs power for the camera, encoder and internet connection; an off-grid solar-and-battery system can supply it. If you are looping prerecorded videos, a cloud service can handle playback and streaming so your home computer does not need to stay on.
Choose the approach that matches your video

Cloud streaming moves playback and encoding away from your home; it does not provide electricity to a remote camera, router or other equipment. If your stream must show something live at a location without mains power, plan for a local off-grid power source.
How to power a local stream off-grid
1. Inventory and measure every device
List the camera, computer or encoder, router, modem or cellular equipment, and accessories that must operate for the stream. Record each device’s wattage and the hours it runs per day. Use actual measured draw where possible; a device’s rated or nameplate power is a starting point, not necessarily its constant consumption. Draw can change with workload, display state and cellular signal.
For each device, multiply watts by operating hours to get watt-hours per day, then add the results. A device running continuously uses its actual watt draw multiplied by 24 hours per day. Include the network equipment and, if your setup uses AC power, the inverter’s consumption and conversion losses. 2. Decide how long the system must run without solar input
Choose the autonomy you need: how long should the equipment continue operating through night, cloudy weather or a disruption to generation? Size the battery around the load during that period and its usable capacity, not just its advertised or headline capacity. A larger battery stores more energy; it does not generate energy.
3. Size generation for your location and season
Solar panels replenish storage only when there is sufficient sunlight. Output changes with time of day, season, cloud cover, rain, snow, dust, haze, dirt and shading. Size generation for the site’s relevant low-sun season and conditions rather than a favorable sunny day. Solar-panel capacity and battery energy capacity solve different problems: panels generate energy, while batteries store it for later use. Where suitable, equipment that can use the battery system’s native DC output may avoid some conversion losses compared with running an inverter for AC devices. Losses depend on the particular equipment and setup; there is no universal panel or battery size for a 24/7 YouTube stream. A sound recommendation requires your measured load, location, connection type, autonomy target and tolerance for interruptions.
4. Plan for power and internet failures
A stream can stop if either the power system or the internet connection fails. Decide how you will detect an interruption and whether the site needs backup power or a backup connection. The right design depends on the location and the consequences of downtime; the available official guidance does not establish one universally suitable monitoring or backup product.

Set up the YouTube stream and check its limits
- Confirm channel eligibility. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Check YouTube’s live streaming tips for current eligibility and stream options.
- Choose the workflow. YouTube describes mobile, webcam and encoder routes. A live camera or a feed encoded locally needs the relevant equipment and connection running at the streaming site. For encoder setup, use YouTube’s current instructions at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Connect the encoder securely. Encoder setup uses YouTube Live’s stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Monitor stream quality. YouTube advises continuous monitoring. For an off-grid installation, also watch for power and connectivity loss so an interruption does not go unnoticed.
- Verify the archive and restart behavior. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not guarantee a single continuous archive for a 24/7 broadcast or establish what happens to a longer stream. Confirm the live-control, restart and archive workflow for your chosen setup before relying on it.
Loop prerecorded video in the cloud instead
If the content is prerecorded, a cloud streaming service can play it continuously without requiring your home computer to remain on. YouTube’s encoder help page lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. OneStream Live’s help center also describes a 24/7 prerecorded-video feature and says it requires an Enterprise plan; that is the vendor’s stated plan requirement, so confirm its current terms directly with OneStream Live’s 24/7 streaming help article.

For a local-camera stream, use the off-grid sizing method above; cloud playback cannot power a camera or the internet equipment at its location.

Do not shop for a panel or battery by guessing from the phrase “24/7.” First total the actual daily watt-hours, then set the desired no-sun autonomy and account for usable battery capacity, conversion losses and seasonal solar conditions. Without those inputs, a specific system capacity or uninterrupted-runtime promise would be misleading. A portable power station or solar generator paired with compatible panels may be a practical category to investigate, but the right capacity depends on your measured load and site.
