Yes, some 24/7 YouTube streaming services let you update their active playlist while the broadcast continues—but it depends on the provider, and changes may not take effect immediately. Upstream, Loopify, and playout.video document live queue editing. Their instructions describe different apply points, from publishing changes to waiting for the current video to finish or for the next transition. Editing a playlist on YouTube itself is a separate action and does not, by itself, update a third-party service’s broadcast queue.
What “playlist updates while live” means
A 24/7 streaming service typically plays uploaded media from a queue or library in its own playout system. That active queue is distinct from a playlist on YouTube. YouTube’s playlist tools let you add or edit titles and descriptions, reorder videos, and remove content, but that does not establish that a third-party service will change what it is currently broadcasting.
To know whether a live broadcast can be changed, look for an edit control in the service’s own active playlist or queue interface and check its instructions. The providers below make specific claims about their own products; those claims are not a general YouTube guarantee.

How to update a live queue without disrupting the stream
- Open the provider’s active queue editor. Do not assume that changing a YouTube playlist changes the playlist or media queue driving the broadcast.
- Check whether changes need to be applied. Upstream’s quick-start guide says to publish changes before they are reflected in the livestream. Other services may use a different save or apply control.
- Find out when the change takes effect. It may take effect after publication, at the next video transition, or after the current video ends. Loopify specifically says the current video finishes first; playout.video says changes take effect at the next transition.
- Keep the queue valid. Loopify says a Live Playlist must retain at least one valid video. Avoid removing the final playable item.
- Use an immediate-play option only if you want to change what viewers see now. Upstream documents playing a file on demand, which temporarily skips the queue. Check the service’s own controls and behavior before using an equivalent option elsewhere.
Check YouTube live eligibility separately
Queue editing is a provider feature; YouTube live-stream eligibility is a separate matter. YouTube’s general setup guidance lists channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days among the requirements to enable streaming. Meeting those requirements does not mean that YouTube controls a third-party provider’s queue or guarantees its editing features. See YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance.
Also make sure the media you stream is authorized for your use. A service’s ability to loop or update uploaded files does not grant permission to use copyrighted music or video. YouTube’s content rules and the rights attached to each recording still matter.
