A common full-HD choice is 1920×1080; 1280×720 is a lower-resolution 16:9 option. Keep pixels square, avoid adding black bars to force a fit, and check the Live Control Room preview before leaving the stream running. YouTube’s general live-stream guidance applies here; it does not specify a special aspect ratio for continuous animation.
Choose 16:9 for a standard horizontal stream
YouTube recommends 16:9 for best live video quality, and identifies it as the standard aspect ratio for playback on a computer. That makes it the appropriate default when your animation is designed for the usual landscape viewing experience. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance and its aspect-ratio guidance do not define a separate ratio for 24/7 animated streams.
Pick a matching resolution
Choose dimensions with the same 16:9 shape for both the animation canvas and the encoder output. YouTube lists these examples for its default 16:9 ratio:

These are options in YouTube’s resolution guidance, not a requirement to use one particular size. Higher resolution carries greater encoding and network demands; choose based on the animation’s detail and your reliable upload capacity. YouTube’s live bitrate recommendations vary by incoming resolution and frame rate, so there is no single bitrate that suits every setup. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance for the combination you select.

Set up the canvas and encoder
- Design the composition. Set the animation project to 16:9 for a standard horizontal presentation, using a resolution such as 1920×1080 or 1280×720.
- Match the outgoing frame. Set the encoder’s video output to the same width and height as the composition so the stream is not unintentionally resized or cropped.
- Use square pixels. Frame aspect ratio and pixel aspect ratio are separate settings: keep the 16:9 frame and use square pixels, as specified in YouTube’s advanced live encoder guidance.
- Leave out baked-in bars. Do not add black side bars, top or bottom bars, or filler borders just to make a non-16:9 animation fit a 16:9 file. YouTube says its player adapts to the video’s shape and viewing device, and padding can interfere with that dynamic adaptation. See YouTube’s video resolution and aspect-ratio guidance.
- Test before leaving it unattended. Check the Live Control Room preview for the intended frame, unwanted cropping, and composition. Confirm the stream is healthy and that your selected bitrate is appropriate for the resolution, frame rate, and stable upload capacity. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health in its encoder guidance.
When vertical 9:16 viewing matters
Vertical is a separate presentation choice, not a replacement setting to apply blindly to a landscape animation. YouTube describes horizontal 16:9 and vertical 9:16 live formats; for vertical output, the default center crop can remove important content near the sides of a wide animation. Live Control Room offers other layout choices, so inspect the actual vertical presentation and keep essential animated elements within the visible area. See YouTube’s live-streaming guidance.
