First identify where the repeat is happening. If you are watching a video or playlist, turn off YouTube’s player Repeat/Loop control. If you are broadcasting prerecorded gameplay as a live stream, change the repeat behavior in the encoder’s media source or playlist—the viewer’s YouTube control does not change what the encoder sends.
Find out which kind of repeat you mean

YouTube Help describes viewer playback this way: “You can play a video or playlist on repeat by looping it.” That viewer feature is separate from a creator’s incoming live feed. YouTube’s live-stream setup uses a stream URL and key to receive content from an encoder; changing a viewer’s Repeat control does not change that source.
Turn off repeat while watching a YouTube video or playlist
On a computer
- Open the video on YouTube and right-click inside the video player to open its context menu.
- If Loop is enabled, select it to turn it off.
- If the video is playing as part of a playlist, inspect the playlist controls as well. Turn off the playlist’s repeat control if the playlist restarts after its final item.
Repeating one video and repeating a playlist are separate behaviors. If the same gaming replay starts again immediately after ending, check whether the video itself is looped; if the playlist begins again after its last item, check the playlist repeat control.
On a TV or gaming console
- Bring up the YouTube playback controls while the video is playing.
- Open the player’s controls or Settings.
- Switch off Repeat. If the content is a playlist, check whether the control applies to the current item or the whole playlist.
The exact controls can vary by device and YouTube app version. YouTube Help identifies playback controls or Settings as the place to change Repeat on TVs and gaming consoles.

Stop a prerecorded gameplay feed from looping live
If viewers see the same gaming replay restart during a live broadcast, changing YouTube’s viewer-side Repeat control will not fix it. The repeat is likely being generated by the encoder or streaming service that is sending the video. YouTube’s live-stream settings use a configured stream URL and stream key, while the media being transmitted is selected and controlled outside the viewer’s playback controls.
- Check the active source. Confirm that the encoder is sending the intended gameplay file or playlist, rather than another source that happens to contain the same recording.
- Identify what restarts. Determine whether one file restarts as soon as it ends or a playlist returns to an earlier item after its final item.
- Change the source’s repeat behavior. In the encoder or service that owns the media source, disable the file’s loop or the playlist’s repeat setting, as appropriate. Menu labels and exact steps depend on the encoder and its version; YouTube’s documentation does not provide a universal encoder-side menu path.
- Check the outgoing preview. Confirm that the intended source plays as expected before relying on the live feed. If it restarts there, the behavior is upstream of YouTube’s viewer controls.
Do not look for a universal YouTube Studio switch that stops a prerecorded encoder source from looping. YouTube’s live-stream settings cover stream setup, including the stream URL and key, but do not document an encoder-independent control for the source’s repeat behavior. Google’s Live Streaming API also distinguishes the liveStream resource, which represents the audio-video transmission and settings, from the liveBroadcast resource, which represents the broadcast.

Check an embedded YouTube player
If the repeat occurs only on a page with an embedded video, the site’s player configuration may be causing it. In YouTube’s IFrame Player API, looping a single video uses loop=1 together with playlist set to that same video’s ID. Whoever controls the embed should review those parameters and change the configuration if the video should play only once. A viewer’s normal YouTube playback control may not be the right fix for a repeat requested by the page itself.
If the video still repeats
- It repeats on YouTube but not in the encoder preview: Check whether the viewer has enabled Loop/Repeat, or whether the playlist is set to repeat.
- It repeats in the encoder preview and on the live feed: Check the encoder’s active file or playlist and its repeat behavior.
- It repeats only on one website: Ask the site owner to check the embed/player parameters, including
loopandplaylist. - The setting or menu is missing: The exact interface depends on the device, app, encoder, and version. Identify those details before following app-specific directions; the controls are not established for every interface.
