For a YouTube-only podcast stream, use OBS Studio directly with YouTube. OBS handles scenes, audio mixing, overlays, and encoding; add Restream when you want one OBS output distributed to YouTube and other platforms. Neither setup is documented as guaranteeing uninterrupted 24/7 operation, and YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured in its archive—so plan a separate recording and an interruption response before you go live.

Can I use OBS with Restream?
Yes. Keep OBS as the production interface, then connect its output to Restream. Restream documents connecting an account and manually configuring a stream key. From there, select the destinations supported by your account. The relay is useful when distributing to multiple platforms is part of the plan; it does not remove OBS’s need to produce and send a feed.
If YouTube is the only destination, connect OBS directly to YouTube instead. That avoids an extra relay step. For platform-specific instructions, use Restream’s current OBS connection guide and verify channel limits, branding, recording, and video-quality details on the service’s current plan information before committing.

Does OBS stream to more than one platform?
OBS is the local production encoder. A local multistream setup requires a way to send its output to each destination, along with enough computer capacity and upload bandwidth. YouTube describes cloud relays as receiving one incoming stream and distributing it to destinations; that approach can reduce the computer-side burden of sending separate feeds and is useful when reaching more than two channels. Restream is one such relay, with channel and destination availability depending on its current plan.

Set up an always-on YouTube podcast stream
1. Make sure the channel can go live
Confirm live streaming is enabled for the YouTube channel before scheduling the launch. YouTube says a channel must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days; first-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours. Start the process well ahead of the intended broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
2. Create the event and protect the stream key
Create the YouTube live stream and choose the encoder workflow. Copy the stream URL and key into OBS’s streaming configuration, or follow Restream’s documented account-connection or manual-key process if using its relay. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen, share it publicly, or leave it in a public recording. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the event and encoder workflow.

3. Configure a sustainable video and audio feed
Set OBS to a resolution and bitrate that your computer can encode and your upload connection can sustain. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution recommendations for the chosen resolution and frame rate rather than copying a bitrate intended for a different format. Test audio levels, motion, transitions, and any overlays using representative podcast content. Check YouTube’s preview and stream-health indicators before relying on the feed.
There is no single correct microphone or interface for this choice: equipment depends on the show’s sound and production requirements. The relevant requirement is a clean, stable audio feed that you can monitor throughout the broadcast.

4. Record independently and verify the file
Do not make YouTube’s archive the only copy of a long-running show. YouTube can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all; YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup. Enable local recording in your workflow where practical, confirm that the recording file is growing, and preserve an independent copy if the episode matters. Read YouTube’s archive guidance.
5. Test interruptions and assign an operator
Run a realistic test before leaving the stream unattended. Confirm that the audio and video remain usable, monitor stream health, and decide who will respond if the encoder, network, YouTube connection, or relay stops. The cited platform guidance supports testing and monitoring; it does not establish a guaranteed 24/7 method or a specific automatic restart procedure for OBS or Restream.

Will YouTube save an always-on livestream?
Not reliably if it runs beyond the archive limit. YouTube’s guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. For a continuous podcast channel, use a separate recording plan and check the local file during operation rather than assuming the YouTube replay will be complete.

- Live streaming is not enabled: verify channel eligibility and allow up to 24 hours for first-time enablement.
