You can rebroadcast archived gaming videos as a YouTube Live event by playing them in order on a computer and sending that computer’s output through an encoder to YouTube. YouTube’s documented setup uses a server URL and stream key; the playlist itself is arranged in your playback source, not imported through a native YouTube archive-to-Live button. For a one-off stream, a local computer and encoder can be enough. For unattended, continuous playback, a cloud option avoids leaving a home computer running.
Before you schedule the stream
Check that your channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. Enabling livestreaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before you plan to broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide and live-streaming tips.
Review every recording for rights issues
Use broadcasts you own or have permission to rebroadcast. Review the complete files—not just the gameplay—for licensed music, third-party clips, voice chat, overlays, and other embedded material. YouTube says livestreams are scanned for third-party content; a match can lead to a warning, placeholder, interruption, or termination. Even if you have a licence, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. If YouTube archives the event, Content ID claims may be applied after it ends. Private or unlisted visibility does not remove these rights obligations or scanning. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
YouTube’s livestream terms say the provider must have the rights needed to use live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights. Directly rebroadcasting someone else’s archived gaming broadcast is not automatically permitted just because the original was public.

Set up a playlist-to-Live stream with a computer
YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming. For this workflow, your playback application supplies the ordered recordings and the encoder sends the resulting feed to YouTube. YouTube’s connection guide does not prescribe a particular multi-file playlist application or playlist configuration, so choose a source that can play your files in sequence and test its output before scheduling.
- Arrange your recordings. Put the videos in the intended order in your chosen playback source. Check that each file plays with its expected video and audio, and confirm what happens between files and when the playlist reaches its end. The exact queue and repeat controls depend on the application; YouTube does not specify them.
- Create or schedule the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live to enter the Live Control Room. Create the event or schedule it, then locate its server URL and stream key.
- Connect the encoder. Enter the server URL and stream key in your encoder’s streaming settings. The key routes the encoder’s feed to the correct YouTube event, so treat it like a password: do not share it or expose it in a recording or screenshot. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the connection.
- Start playback and the encoder, then inspect the preview. Confirm that the correct event receives the feed. Check picture, sound, playlist order, transitions, event visibility, and the watch page before making the event public. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream quality.
- End the event deliberately. Stop the event in YouTube and stop the encoder when the playlist is finished. Keep a local recording or archive backup: YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured.
Plan timing and upload capacity
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Use that lead time to confirm the encoder connects and the Live Control Room preview looks right, rather than discovering a playlist or audio problem at the start time.

For network capacity, YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom above the combined bitrate of the primary and backup streams. This is YouTube’s guidance, not a guarantee that any connection will be stable; upload capacity and consistency still depend on your network. Consult YouTube’s streaming tips for its current recommendations.
Choose a playback setup for the job

Choose according to whether the stream must run unattended, whether you want local control, and how long the event will run. YouTube’s listed options do not provide a verified comparison of cost, reliability, or video quality, so those are not grounds for ranking them.

Troubleshoot common problems
The Live Control Room does not receive a feed
- Confirm you enabled livestreaming early enough; first-time access can take up to 24 hours.
- Check that the encoder has the server URL and stream key for this event, and that the key was entered correctly.
- Verify that the encoder is running and that the computer is playing the intended source.
The stream starts, but the wrong video or no audio appears
- Check the playback source and playlist order, then inspect the encoder preview before going public.
- Confirm the selected audio source is the one carrying the recording’s sound. The exact control depends on the playback application and encoder; test the complete chain rather than assuming a playlist’s sound is included.
YouTube warns about content or interrupts the stream
- Review the recording for third-party music, clips, or other material and make sure you have the necessary rights.
- If you have a licence, ask the rights holder whether your channel must be added to its Content ID allowlist. A licence does not by itself guarantee that automated matching will not interrupt a live feed.
The stream ends without a complete archive
Keep a local backup recording. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
