To stream a Malayalam sermon from a computer, create a broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, connect an encoder such as OBS Studio using YouTube RTMPS and the broadcast’s stream key, then check the picture, sound, and stream status before going live. A computer-based setup can run for long periods, but it is not a guarantee of uninterrupted service: keep someone available to monitor it and reconnect if something fails.
Before you start: check that the channel can livestream
- YouTube requires the channel to be verified and to have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube also sets a minimum age of 16 for livestreaming. Check the current YouTube live-streaming eligibility requirements.
- Use a computer that can run OBS, a dependable internet connection, and the sermon’s audio and video source. For live preaching, a suitable microphone is needed; YouTube lists microphones and preamps as examples of hardware used with encoder streams. A prerecorded sermon with clear audio may not need an additional microphone.
- Decide who will watch the stream and respond if the computer, network, encoder, or YouTube connection fails. An unattended computer is not a recovery plan.
Create the YouTube broadcast
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open the Live Control Room. Confirm that the channel is eligible before proceeding.
- Create a new broadcast or select one that is already scheduled. Enter the title and description, choose visibility, and set the audience designation accurately for the intended audience. A sermon is not automatically “made for kids” just because families may watch it; use YouTube’s current guidance and the actual intended audience.
- Choose a scheduled broadcast if viewers need advance notice, or an immediate broadcast if you are ready to begin. Check the current Live Control Room options: interface labels and controls can change.
- Find the stream key for the broadcast. Treat it like a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before streaming again.
Connect OBS and check the stream
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube – RTMPS as the service, and enter the stream key from YouTube Studio. OBS’s YouTube streaming guide describes this encoder workflow; check current software screens if the labels differ.
- Add the sermon source in OBS. For live speech, select the microphone or audio interface and confirm its meter responds when the preacher speaks. For a recording, select the video source and verify its embedded or separately captured audio.
- Start streaming in OBS, then return to the Live Control Room. Wait for YouTube to receive the encoder signal and inspect its stream status. Before making the broadcast public, use a private or unlisted rehearsal where appropriate and check both the viewer-facing image and sound.
- When the preview is correct, start or publish the broadcast in YouTube Studio if required by the selected configuration. Share the YouTube viewing link, then keep watching stream health and audio during the sermon.
Choose start and stop behavior deliberately
Scheduled-broadcast and encoder controls affect when a stream becomes public and what happens when OBS connects or disconnects. Decide whether auto-start and auto-stop suit the event, and rehearse those settings before the sermon. In particular, understand the effect of auto-stop during a brief encoder or network interruption: the broadcast may end rather than remain ready for a reconnect. YouTube and OBS behavior can change, so confirm the current controls in Live Control Room and OBS rather than relying on an old screen description.
YouTube currently documents limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These are platform limits and may change; check YouTube’s current live-streaming help before planning multiple simultaneous broadcasts.
What “nonstop” can and cannot mean from a computer
Leaving OBS open does not guarantee a permanent stream. A power cut, computer crash, internet outage, encoder failure, or YouTube-side interruption can break continuity. OBS’s guidance also warns that a broadcast may eventually end after multiple hours without incoming streaming. The cited platform and encoder guidance does not promise quantified uptime or automatic recovery for a computer-based setup.

For a long-running sermon stream, rehearse the exact broadcast configuration, keep a person responsible for monitoring it, and agree on who will restart OBS or reconnect the encoder. Consider independent power or network backup if your budget and circumstances justify it. Decide in advance how viewers will be informed if the stream is interrupted.
Rights and YouTube policy for sermon content
All livestream content must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service; YouTube can restrict a channel’s ability to livestream. Before airing a sermon, confirm that you have permission for the recording and every included element, such as translated text, music, images, and performances. Religious or educational subject matter does not itself establish that you have the necessary rights. The channel operator must check the permissions and licensing for the particular material.
