To stream prerecorded videos as a YouTube Live broadcast around the clock, connect a cloud streaming service or an encoder to a YouTube live event. A regular YouTube playlist only organizes videos for playback; it does not turn them into a continuous live broadcast. A cloud service runs the playlist and sends the feed remotely, while a self-hosted encoder depends on your own computer or encoder hardware staying on and connected.
Before you start: check that your channel can go live
YouTube says your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is your first live stream, activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned start. Check YouTube’s current requirements in Get started with live streaming; eligibility rules and limits can change.
Choose only videos, music, images, and other material you have the rights to stream and rebroadcast. A file being available to upload does not establish permission. Live content must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service; YouTube may age-restrict or remove streams that violate its rules.

Set up a cloud playlist stream
The exact controls differ by provider. These steps combine the common workflow with the documented OneStream Live sequence; treat its 30-day maximum and Enterprise requirement as specific to that service, not general YouTube rules.
- Prepare cleared videos. Gather the files you are entitled to stream. OneStream Live’s instructions list uploads from a device, its own storage, and cloud storage such as Google Drive or Dropbox. Check the service’s current supported sources and any storage limits.
- Create the live event in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, go to Live Control Room, and create or schedule a stream. Set its title, description, visibility, and other event details. Keep the event ready while you connect the streaming service.
- Connect your YouTube channel. Follow the provider’s channel-connection steps. If it asks you to enter a stream key, copy it from YouTube’s live setup into the provider’s designated field. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish it or share it in screenshots.
- Create the continuous stream and add videos. In OneStream Live’s documented workflow, create a 24-hour stream, add videos, select the connected YouTube channel, and enter the stream details. Arrange the items in the intended order and confirm whether the provider loops the list or applies another repeat setting.
- Choose timing and duration. Select immediate streaming or schedule a later start, then set the duration the service allows. OneStream Live’s cited workflow requires Enterprise and permits up to 30 days; confirm its current terms before relying on that limit.
- Preview and schedule or start. Check representative video motion and audio, confirm the YouTube event details, and start or schedule the broadcast. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages before leaving the setup unattended.
Run the playlist from your own encoder
A self-hosted setup gives you direct control over the encoder, but the computer or encoder hardware must continue sending the feed. YouTube describes the role simply: “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” The detailed controls for queuing and looping files vary by encoder; use its supported playlist feature or another documented way to play the sequence continuously.

- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream, and set its title, description, visibility, and other details.
- Copy the connection details. Obtain the YouTube server URL and stream key for the event and enter them in the encoder’s streaming destination fields. Use RTMPS for the standard encoder path, as YouTube recommends. Protect the stream key as a credential.
- Configure the video output. Use a supported codec and encoding mode, then choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate appropriate to your source and connection. YouTube’s current guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS, supports up to 60 fps, recommends constant bitrate encoding, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Bitrate depends on resolution, frame rate, and codec; use YouTube’s current table rather than assuming one value fits every stream: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Load and loop the source videos. Add the cleared files to the encoder’s supported playlist or playback workflow. Confirm the order, repeat behavior, and what happens when a file ends or fails; these controls are encoder-specific.
- Test the feed. Start the encoder, check YouTube’s preview and stream health, and verify both sound and picture using representative content. Keep the encoder running and monitor the feed during the broadcast.
RTMP/RTMPS and HLS are not the same playlist
RTMPS is YouTube’s recommended standard encoder path. HLS is a different ingestion route for compatible encoders and use cases; YouTube says it has higher latency because it sends video segments instead of a continuous RTMP feed. HLS setup requires an HLS stream key and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. That protocol-level media playlist is not your creator playlist of prerecorded videos. Test and monitor the broadcast
- Preview motion and listen to audio before the planned start; a static image or silent segment can reveal a broken file or playback configuration.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room for preview and stream-health messages when the stream starts and while it runs.
- Keep the source sequence and event details consistent: confirm the correct channel, visibility, title, and intended playlist before going live.
- Plan to monitor for encoder, internet, or service interruptions. A continuous schedule does not guarantee that a feed cannot be interrupted, and no setup should be treated as a promise of uninterrupted uptime.
- Do not assume the complete 24/7 broadcast will remain available as a replay. The sources cited here do not establish a universal archive duration for continuous streams.
Common problems and fixes

More details for continuous broadcasts
YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation describes an advanced arrangement in which a continuous 24/7 broadcast and a separate interview broadcast can run simultaneously using the same stream; the continuous broadcast can continue after the interview ends. This is an API-level option, not a requirement for a basic playlist stream. See Understanding Broadcasts and Streams. YouTube’s live-stream help page also states limits of 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key; verify the current figures in YouTube’s help page before planning multiple concurrent feeds.
