Restream says its server may undergo maintenance and restart during streams that run continuously for more than 24 hours, and recommends restarting every 24 hours. YouTube allows long streams, but its replay behavior has a separate limit: streams under 12 hours are archived. A dependable setup therefore needs planned segments or restarts, monitoring, and a recovery plan—not an assumption of uninterrupted service.
Is Restream good for running a 24/7 YouTube stream?
It may work as part of a carefully managed workflow, but the available official guidance does not support treating Restream as a set-and-forget way to keep one broadcast uninterrupted indefinitely. Restream says it does not impose a stream-duration limit, then qualifies that by warning that its server may be restarted for maintenance during continuous streams exceeding 24 hours. Its recommendation is to restart the stream every 24 hours. Restream also says streams beyond 24 hours may require a custom pricing plan through Sales, so confirm the terms and operating expectations for your particular use before committing.
Restream’s guidance is not an uptime guarantee, and the cited information does not establish a service-level agreement or prove how a particular continuous setup will behave. If a brief interruption is unacceptable, plan for a restart and recovery process and monitor the broadcast rather than relying on the relay alone.
Can I stream on YouTube 24/7?
Yes. YouTube’s cited guidance does not set a maximum duration for a live stream. But permission to stay live and the ability to keep a particular stream running without interruption are different things: the source, relay, network, and YouTube ingest can all affect continuity. YouTube recommends checking the preview and stream health, then continuously monitoring audio and video quality.

Meet YouTube’s live-streaming prerequisites
- The channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days, according to YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- For Restream’s YouTube connection, its setup guide says the connecting user must be the channel owner, not a manager or editor. It also says YouTube requires phone verification and a 24-hour wait before a channel can stream for the first time.
- Test the source and upload capacity before relying on the stream. YouTube recommends testing quality against available upload bitrate and recommends RTMPS where supported.
Choose and secure the stream key
A stream key, used with YouTube’s server URL, tells an encoder where to send its feed. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. YouTube’s stream-settings guidance explains how to reset a compromised key. Keep credentials out of public documents and recordings, and verify which source is currently using the key before a planned restart.
Set expectations for latency and DVR
YouTube’s latency and DVR settings affect viewer delay and whether viewers can pause or rewind; they do not prevent a service-side restart or create failover. Select them for the viewing experience you want, then test the result with a private or unlisted stream where appropriate.

Will YouTube save a 24/7 livestream?
Not as one complete automatic archive under the cited guidance. YouTube automatically archives streams that are under 12 hours; a stream lasting 12 hours or longer should not be assumed to produce a complete replay. Restream’s YouTube guidance describes the same under-12-hour archive threshold.
If viewers need an on-demand recording, use planned sessions shorter than 12 hours or arrange a separate recording and archive workflow. Verify that each segment has ended and its replay is available before relying on it as the only copy.

How to operate a long stream more safely
- Confirm the account and plan. Verify the channel’s eligibility, connect as its owner when using Restream, and ask Restream whether your intended duration and prerecorded-video workflow are covered by your plan.
- Build a segment schedule. Plan a controlled restart at least every 24 hours if using Restream, as its help guidance recommends. Use shorter sessions if you need YouTube’s automatic archives, which apply to streams under 12 hours.
- Test the entire path. Send a test through the same source, network, Restream connection, and YouTube destination you intend to use. Check preview, stream health, picture, and sound before relying on it.
- Monitor during operation. YouTube advises continuous monitoring of audio and video quality. Arrange a person or alerting process to notice a failed feed, bad sound, or a stream that did not resume after a restart.
- Document recovery. Record how to stop and restart the source, confirm the correct YouTube event and key, and check that viewers can see and hear the resumed feed. Keep a backup source or manual recovery plan if the broadcast cannot go dark.
- Check recordings separately. Confirm each planned session’s archive and maintain any separate recording you need; an always-on channel does not guarantee one complete YouTube replay.
What Restream’s plans establish—and what they do not
Restream’s February 9, 2026 premium-feature comparison lists these simultaneous destination allowances. They are channel counts, not evidence that a given plan guarantees unattended 24/7 operation.
| Restream plan | Listed simultaneous destinations |
|---|---|
| Free | 2 |
| Standard | 3 |
| Professional | 5 |
| Business | 8 |
| Enterprise | 25+ |
The comparison describes prerecorded-video streaming as a higher-plan feature, but does not establish which subscription permits automated 24/7 prerecorded rotation or what usage limits apply. Check the current plan details or contact Restream before choosing a tier for that purpose. The cited duration guidance also says streams beyond 24 hours may require a custom plan through Sales.

Alternatives for keeping a YouTube stream running
- StreamNeo — first option to consider for uploaded-video loops. It keeps a YouTube stream running from the cloud, supports uploaded video at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and gives one free day without a card. It is designed for prerecorded uploads and playlists, not a live camera feed. See StreamNeo for details.
- Restream as a relay. It can carry long YouTube streams, but its guidance warns of a possible server restart after 24 hours of continuous streaming and recommends a daily restart. Confirm plan fit and build monitoring and recovery into the workflow.
- An encoder sending directly to YouTube. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders. A hardware encoder can provide the feed, but buying one does not by itself prevent a service, power, network, or source failure; no particular model or unattended configuration is established here.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The stream runs from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Uploads stream as made, up to 4K 60fps, for one price per slot; the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera. Start a free day at StreamNeo registration.
