To broadcast a repeating playlist of video files on YouTube Live, add the files to an OBS Studio VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. Turn on Shuffle Playlist if you want the order to vary, but do not treat shuffle as a guarantee against the last video of one cycle matching the first video of the next. Preview that transition or choose a different first-and-last pairing.
YouTube’s playlist-repeat button is different: it repeats playback for viewers in the YouTube player, not the sequence your live encoder broadcasts.
Choose the right kind of playlist repeat

The YouTube IFrame Player API also supports looping and shuffling a playlist in an embedded player. Those settings affect that player, not the live encoder’s output. IFrame Player API Player parameters
Set up a repeating local-video playlist in OBS
- Prepare the files. Gather the videos you have permission to broadcast, and install VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source uses VLC libraries and requires VLC to be installed. OBS Project: Media Sources
- Open the scene used for the broadcast. In OBS, select the scene whose output you send to YouTube Live. OBS scenes combine sources into the stream output, so the playlist needs to be part of that production scene. OBS Project: Scenes and Sources
- Add the playlist source. In the scene’s Sources panel, click +, select VLC Video, create or select the source, and add your video files to its playlist. The exact dialog appearance can vary by OBS version.
- Enable repeat. In the VLC Video source’s properties, turn on Loop Playlist. OBS defines this as restarting the source after it runs out of media files. OBS Project: Media Sources
- Choose the order behavior. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for the listed order, or enable it to randomize the media-file order. OBS documents shuffle as randomizing order; it does not promise that the last file of a cycle cannot match the first file of the next. OBS Project: Media Sources
- Check the cycle boundary. Preview the playlist through its final item and back to the first. If those entries are the same video and you do not want an immediate repeat, reorder the list or choose a different final/first pairing. This check matters even with shuffle enabled because the documented setting does not establish a no-repeat boundary guarantee.
- Send the scene to your configured YouTube Live broadcast. Confirm that the OBS scene you configured is the one being sent. This playlist workflow does not itself establish account eligibility or configure the connection to YouTube Live.
What “without showing the same video twice” can mean
No immediate repeat at the playlist boundary
For a fixed-order loop, inspect the final and first entries. If they differ, the cycle will not begin by replaying its last entry. For a shuffled loop, the order changes, but the OBS documentation does not state that adjacent cycles must have different boundary videos. Preview the transition if that distinction matters.

No video repeated anywhere in a cycle
Looping a playlist necessarily starts the next cycle with a video that was already shown in the previous cycle. Shuffle changes order; it does not make the files unique across repeated cycles. If you mean “do not replay any video until every other video has played,” use a playlist whose entries are distinct for that cycle and verify its order rather than relying on an undocumented shuffle guarantee.
Viewer playback controls are not live-broadcast controls
In YouTube’s player, the playlist control can repeat the playlist continuously; activating the loop control again can repeat only the current video. Those are viewer playback options, not instructions to an encoder. YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube — Computer

Likewise, the IFrame Player API’s setLoop(true) and shuffle behavior apply to an embedded player. The player-parameter documentation’s single-video loop example uses the same video ID as the playlist parameter. Neither API setting determines which media files OBS emits in a live stream.
