Make sure your YouTube channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If you have never enabled live streaming, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours, so do this before announcing a lesson schedule. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
In YouTube Studio, use the Live Control Room to create or schedule the broadcast. Scheduling can give viewers an event page and the option to receive reminders. Choose the audience and privacy settings appropriate to your lessons; do not assume that a stream is private merely because its video files are stored in a cloud service.

Set up a continuous prerecorded lesson stream
- Prepare the lesson files. Choose the videos you have the right to stream, check that their audio and picture play correctly, and decide the sequence. For a cloud service, upload the files or select them from a supported library or cloud-storage source. Arrange a playlist if the service supports it.
- Enable and schedule YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream, set its title, audience, privacy and any other event details, then select the encoder workflow. Scheduling is useful when viewers need a fixed start time or reminders.
- Connect the cloud service or encoder. YouTube’s encoder setup uses a server URL and stream key. Enter them in the service’s YouTube connection settings as directed. Treat the stream key like a password: do not share it or show it in public screenshots, documents, or chat. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the service using the new key. - Set the playback duration and start the feed. Select the lesson sequence and duration supported by your chosen service, then start or schedule playback. For a scheduled encoder stream, YouTube says to wait for the preview in Live Control Room and click “Go live” when it is ready. Some cloud workflows may start the event differently, so follow the provider’s current instructions.
- Check the live result. Confirm that the correct lesson is playing, audio is audible, and the YouTube preview looks right. YouTube recommends monitoring encoder stream quality. Run a test before relying on the channel for a class timetable, and keep an eye on the stream when it matters; cloud hosting removes the home-computer requirement but does not eliminate the need to verify the broadcast.
Plan separately for replays and lesson archives
Continuous playback and a complete YouTube replay are not the same thing. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise an archive of a longer uninterrupted stream, so do not advertise a full replay for a broadcast that runs beyond that limit. If students need replays, consider scheduling shorter broadcasts or check whether your provider can segment or restart the stream; verify the current YouTube guidance before relying on a longer archive. Keep lesson rights and channel policies in view
Only stream recordings you own or are licensed to use, including any music, images, slides, or other material inside them. A prerecorded format does not make copyrighted material permissible. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance before broadcasting material whose rights are unclear. YouTube’s rules and monetization decisions can also apply to channels built around repeated or reused material; make sure a lesson channel accurately represents its educational content and follows current platform policies rather than assuming that continuous streaming guarantees eligibility or reach.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
- You cannot start a live broadcast: Check that the channel is verified, has no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and has completed live-streaming activation. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube does not receive the feed: Confirm that the stream key and server details match the current YouTube event. If you replaced the key, update it in the streaming service or encoder as well. Never post the key publicly.
- The event is scheduled but viewers see no video: Check the provider’s playback status and YouTube’s Live Control Room preview. For a scheduled encoder workflow, wait for the preview and click “Go live.”
- The wrong lesson plays, or the stream ends sooner than expected: Review playlist order, selected files, and the configured duration. Check provider limits; for OneStream Live’s described 24/7 feature, the help article states a maximum of 30 days.
- The stream is live but the replay is incomplete or missing: YouTube’s automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours, not a guaranteed archive for longer continuous broadcasts. Plan shorter segments or confirm the provider can segment or restart the stream.
- Playback or quality is unreliable: Check the provider’s status and YouTube’s stream-quality indicators, then test the file and connection workflow before the next scheduled lesson. Available product descriptions do not establish a guaranteed uninterrupted result.
