Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf YouTube says “no data is being received,” first check that your encoder is sending to the active stream’s exact server URL and stream key in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Then compare the encoder’s local output with YouTube’s preview. The message is a symptom, not a diagnosis: a wrong or stale key, an encoder that is not producing video, or a broken outbound connection can all prevent ingest.
Start with the stream URL, key, and preview
- Open the active stream in YouTube Studio. Go to Live Control Room and select the current stream. Compare its Stream URL and Stream key with the server and key configured in OBS or the FFmpeg command. Make sure you are checking the event you intend to broadcast, not another scheduled or previous stream. YouTube’s encoder troubleshooting guide recommends getting a new key and updating the encoder if YouTube reports an error starting the stream.
- Protect the key. Treat it like a password. Do not share it in screenshots, public logs, or support posts. If it may be exposed or stale, obtain or reset the current key in Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Look for the incoming feed in Live Control Room. If there is no local picture or sound, investigate capture and encoding first. If local output looks healthy but YouTube’s preview remains empty, focus on the destination, protocol, and outbound network path.
Check that OBS or FFmpeg is actually producing a feed
Use a current encoder version and inspect its preview or output, sources, encoder messages, and CPU load. Confirm that the intended video and audio sources are active. A local recording made during troubleshooting can help establish whether capture and encoding are working independently of YouTube ingest.
For FFmpeg, there is no universal command-line correction for this message. The right diagnosis depends on the exact command, FFmpeg version and build, protocol, and error output. Verify the destination URL and credentials, and confirm that the process is actively producing and sending a feed. If asking for help, redact the stream key before sharing the command or logs.
Test the outbound connection
If local output is sound but YouTube receives nothing—or OBS reports dropped frames—check whether your stable upload capacity can sustain the configured bitrate. OBS describes dropped frames as a connection problem between the computer and remote server, or a bitrate the connection cannot maintain; its connection troubleshooting guide says, in that context, “It is extremely unlikely for OBS Studio to cause dropped frames.” That does not rule out other encoder problems.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Try a wired Ethernet connection if you suspect Wi-Fi instability. It is a diagnostic, not a fix for a wrong key or URL.
- Restarting the modem and router can help isolate a general connectivity issue. Replace equipment only if there is evidence it is faulty.
- Check whether a VPN, security software, network optimization utility, outdated network driver, or network hardware is interfering. If you temporarily change a security setting for diagnosis, restore it afterward.
- In OBS, follow the guide for your current version and operating system. Suggested checks include trying another ingest server where available, lowering the video bitrate, checking Windows network optimizations or TCP pacing, using Default Bind to IP, and testing IPv4-only—revert that test if it does not help. Dynamic bitrate adjustment is a fallback that can reduce video quality.
OBS menu labels can vary by release and operating system. Its connection guide is dated 2024-09-30, so check the current interface rather than assuming every label is unchanged.
Verify RTMPS, endpoint, and ingest settings
YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the stream to Google’s servers. Use the RTMPS URL supplied by the active Live Control Room stream; do not guess or reuse an endpoint. If you see an SSL error or timeout, confirm the URL and protocol, verify that the encoder supports RTMPS, and try port 443 when required by your setup. YouTube’s live encoder settings and troubleshooting guidance covers supported protocols and settings.

Once data is arriving, check that your configuration matches the video mode and codec. YouTube’s current RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video at up to 60 fps; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Advanced recommendations include square pixels, progressive scan, Rec. 709 for SDR, and stereo AAC or MP3 audio at 128 kbps. Codec support depends on the protocol and encoder.
| H.264 video mode | YouTube recommended bitrate | Figure qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps | YouTube Help configuration recommendation, accessed 2026; not a measured result. |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps | YouTube Help configuration recommendation, accessed 2026; not a measured result. |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps | YouTube Help configuration recommendation, accessed 2026; not a measured result. |
These are selected H.264 recommendations, not universal targets. YouTube lists different values for other modes and for AV1 or H.265. Use the row for your actual resolution, frame rate, and codec, then make sure the connection can sustain the selected bitrate.

When HLS is relevant
YouTube’s HLS path uses an HTTPS ingest URL and has separate segment and codec requirements. It has higher latency than a continuous RTMP feed. Use it when your encoder and use case call for HLS; it is not a general remedy for an invalid RTMP stream key.
When the usual checks do not resolve it
- Save the encoder log and note the time of failure and protocol. Redact the stream key before sharing any log or command.
- Record whether the encoder produced local output and whether YouTube’s preview received anything. This helps distinguish a capture or encoding problem from ingest or network trouble.
- If the URL, key, protocol, settings, and connection appear correct, contact the encoder provider for encoder-specific errors. Contact your internet provider if evidence points to the connection.
Or let it run in the cloud
