If your 24/7 YouTube lesson stream goes silent between videos, first find out where the silence starts: in the lesson files, in the encoder, or only in YouTube playback. Compare the source files with the encoder’s audio meter and preview, any local recording of the stream, and the public player. That identifies the likely fix without guessing at equipment or changing unrelated settings.
Why does a 24/7 YouTube stream go silent between videos?
The symptom alone does not identify the cause. A gap in the original lesson, an encoder that stops sending audio while switching sources, or a playback-only issue can all look like “no sound between videos” to a viewer. Network trouble is a less likely explanation when the only silence occurs at lesson boundaries; look for dropped frames, buffering, or disconnections before treating it as a connection problem.
YouTube’s Live Control Room can report “Your encoder is sending no audio.” YouTube identifies missing ingest audio as an encoder issue and says to provide one audio stream and enable audio in encoders that have an audio checkbox. YouTube’s live-stream error guidance also lists H.264 video and AAC audio for standard ingest. Use codec settings as a lead only if Live Control Room reports an encoding error; first check whether audio is being sent at all.
Locate exactly where the silence begins
- Check the lesson files. Play each affected file locally around the end of one lesson and the start of the next. If the file itself is silent there, the encoder cannot restore the missing audio. Edit or replace the file, or adjust the lesson ending or playlist transition.
- Watch the encoder’s audio meter. Observe it during a lesson and through the silent boundary. Confirm the expected audio source is active and assigned to the outgoing stream’s audio track. If the meter drops only at the transition, investigate source switching, track assignment, and audio routing.
- Check the encoder preview and local archive. Compare the same boundary in the preview and, if available, a local recording of the stream. If either is silent, investigate the source or encoder rather than YouTube playback.
- Check YouTube’s Live Control Room. Look at the preview and stream-health messages during the transition. YouTube recommends testing the setup, previewing before going live, and continuously monitoring audio and video quality. YouTube’s streaming tips explain these checks.
- Compare public playback. If the preview and archive contain sound but the public player does not, try another supported device or player. If the problem persists, use YouTube’s feedback path. Check connection health only when there are connection symptoms
OBS describes dropped frames and intermittent disconnections as problems with the connection between the computer and the remote ingest server. Its guidance recommends checking server selection and lowering bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it. If the source, routing, and connection appear healthy but the issue continues, YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance suggests checking encoder output, Live Dashboard errors, CPU load, the local archive, and outbound connection; trying another encoder may help isolate the problem. Follow the evidence from those checks rather than changing multiple settings at once.
Do not buy audio gear before checking the signal path
No cited guidance ties silence between lesson videos to a particular cable, headset, mixer, or audio interface. YouTube recommends checking connected hardware and encoder configuration, but the right equipment depends on the setup. Inspect existing connections and confirm the encoder receives the expected source first; consider replacing hardware only if those checks point to a faulty or missing device. You can use headphones to monitor the encoder output, but they do not fix missing audio in a source file or an inactive stream track.
