For a 1080p60 YouTube live stream, set H.264 video to 17 Mbps, or AV1/H.265 to 12 Mbps; use constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval, and RTMPS where available. YouTube lists lower minimum bitrates—6 Mbps for H.264 and 4 Mbps for AV1/H.265—but recommends the higher rates for this resolution and frame rate.
Recommended YouTube settings for 1080p60
These are YouTube’s live-stream encoder ingestion recommendations, not its separate recommendations for uploading prerecorded video. The values below reflect YouTube Help guidance accessed in 2026; the page does not state a publication date.
| Setting | Recommended value or options |
|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 1080p at 60 fps |
| Video codec | H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 |
| Video bitrate, H.264 | 17 Mbps recommended; 6 Mbps listed minimum |
| Video bitrate, AV1 or H.265 | 12 Mbps recommended; 4 Mbps listed minimum |
| Bitrate mode | CBR (constant bitrate) |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds |
| Ingestion protocol | RTMP or RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3 |
| SDR color space | Rec. 709 |
The recommended bitrate depends on the video codec. Choose the figure matching the codec your encoder actually sends to YouTube; the lower listed minimum is not the recommended target. For HDR, YouTube identifies H.265 as its recommended codec and says AV1 is not supported for HDR, so check codec support and the HDR requirements for your setup before choosing.
Configure the encoder and YouTube stream
- Choose an encoder. YouTube supports software encoders and standalone hardware encoders. Either can be used for 1080p60; YouTube does not require a dedicated encoder. External cameras and audio equipment are optional production choices, not prerequisites for these settings.
- Set the output format. Configure 1920 × 1080 at 60 fps. Select H.264 at 17 Mbps or AV1/H.265 at 12 Mbps, where supported, then set bitrate mode to CBR and keyframe interval to 2 seconds. Use AAC or MP3 audio and Rec. 709 for SDR.
- Choose ingestion. Use RTMPS if your encoder supports it; YouTube also lists RTMP. In YouTube Studio’s live setup, use the stream URL and key provided for the broadcast. Treat the stream key like a password: do not share or publish it.
- Set resolution and frame rate. YouTube detects these automatically by default. If you need to choose them manually, create a custom stream key and enable manual settings under Stream Resolution.
- Test before the broadcast. Check available upload bitrate with a speed test and choose a setting the connection can sustain. Test with audio and video movement similar to the real stream; a static screen alone may not represent the broadcast load. YouTube advises testing audio and movement before going live.
- Monitor the event. Watch stream health and read any messages in YouTube’s live control interface. The cited YouTube guidance does not prescribe a universal upload-speed margin above the video bitrate, so do not assume one fixed extra amount guarantees stability.
Choosing a codec, latency, and encoding setup
H.264 versus AV1 or H.265
Base the choice on what your encoder supports, the bitrate YouTube recommends for that codec, and whether you need HDR. At 1080p60, YouTube’s listed recommendation is lower for AV1/H.265 than for H.264, but that is a codec-specific ingestion figure—not a promise of better results on every encoder or connection. For HDR, YouTube recommends H.265 and does not support AV1, according to its general encoder settings guidance.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Latency
Choose a lower-latency mode when real-time audience interaction matters. YouTube cautions that lower latency can increase playback buffering; when live chat or immediate interaction is unimportant, low latency may matter less. The best choice depends on the stream’s purpose and how viewers experience playback.
Software or hardware encoding
Use software encoding on an existing computer or a standalone hardware encoder according to your production needs and equipment. Neither a new encoder nor external camera and audio gear is required by YouTube’s 1080p60 settings guidance.

Troubleshooting 1080p60 streams
- Stream health reports connection or bitrate problems: Check the available upload bitrate with a speed test, then lower the encoder’s output quality if the connection cannot sustain the selected bitrate. Test again under conditions resembling the live broadcast and monitor stream health during the event.
- The encoder’s resolution or frame rate does not match the target: Confirm that the output is 1080p at 60 fps. If relying on YouTube’s manual selection, check that you created a custom stream key and enabled manual settings under Stream Resolution; otherwise, YouTube detects these values automatically.
- The bitrate fluctuates: Confirm that the encoder is set to CBR rather than a variable bitrate mode.
- Keyframes are too far apart: Set the interval to 2 seconds and make sure it does not exceed 4 seconds.
- The stream key may be exposed: Reset it through YouTube Live Control Room, then replace the old key in the encoder before the next broadcast. A reset key will not match an encoder still configured with the previous one.
- Playback buffers at low latency: Consider a less aggressive latency setting if immediate audience interaction is not essential; YouTube notes that lower latency can mean more buffering.
Copyright and live-stream eligibility
Technical encoder settings do not grant permission to use the video, music, or other material in a broadcast. Confirm that you have the rights needed for everything you stream and follow YouTube’s applicable live-stream rules. A technically healthy stream can still face platform action for a rights or policy issue.
