To run devotional music on YouTube around the clock, you need both a continuous playback setup and permission for every composition and recording you use. Start with recordings you made and have cleared, or obtain written authorization from the relevant rights holders; then configure a computer-based encoder and a recovery plan, or use a cloud service that loops uploaded videos. A bhajan’s devotional or traditional character does not by itself make a particular singer’s recording free to stream.
How to stream devotional music 24/7 on YouTube
Separate the job into two tracks: clear the music rights, then build and operate the stream. A stable encoder cannot make an uncleared playlist lawful, and permission alone will not keep a stream online if the power, network, or playback device fails.
- Inventory the recordings. For each track, note the composer, lyricist or publisher, performers, label, and owner of the specific sound recording, where known. Keep the audio files and any contributor agreements together with the inventory.
- Choose recordings you can clear. Prefer your own recordings with written agreements from contributors, or obtain written permission from the relevant owners for the exact online use. A traditional prayer or old lyric does not establish that a modern arrangement, performance, or recording is free to use.
- Check composition and lyric rights. Search the IPRS repertoire and ask IPRS which category and scope applies to a continuous YouTube stream. IPRS describes licenses for works in its repertoire, including internet use, but its license does not grant rights held by a non-member publisher or owner. Its repertoire search contains more than 600,000 song titles and is continually updated, but may not be exhaustive; absence from the search is not proof that no rights exist.
- Clear the specific recordings separately. For commercial recordings, contact the label or sound-recording owner about digital streaming authorization. PPL’s current tariff guidance covers on-ground use, not digital streaming of recordings; its FAQ directs users seeking digital sound-recording permissions to individual labels.
- Get the permission in writing. Ask it to identify the tracks, rights granted, YouTube livestream use, territory, term, monetization or sponsorship conditions, and whether an archive or replay is covered. Confirm how Content ID claims will be handled.
- Request Content ID allowlisting before launch. Ask each relevant rights holder to add your channel to its allowlist for the authorized material. YouTube says all live streams are scanned for third-party content and that a stream can be interrupted even when the content is licensed if the channel is not allowlisted.
- Build a rotation and choose archive settings. Arrange the authorized tracks in a scheduled playlist or rotation. Decide whether the stream will be live-only or saved as a replay; YouTube says claims on archived live streams are made after the stream ends, and the permission must cover the archive too.
- Test with cleared material, then monitor. Confirm that the video and audio play as intended, the stream is visible to viewers, and your recovery procedure works. A clean test does not establish that every track in a larger catalog has been cleared.
Can I play bhajans on a 24/7 YouTube live stream?
Yes, if the rights needed for that use are cleared and the stream follows YouTube’s platform requirements. The key distinction is between a song or prayer as a composition and a particular sound recording. They may have different owners, so permission for one does not automatically clear the other.

Do I need permission if I bought or downloaded the songs?
Buying or downloading a copy gives you access to that copy; it does not establish permission to broadcast the recording publicly on a continuous YouTube stream. IPRS says purchasing a copy does not grant public-performance rights, and PPL likewise says buying records or discs does not authorize public performance. Those points do not mean either organization can clear every right in every recording: check the scope of each permission and contact the relevant owners.

What IPRS and PPL permissions do—and do not—cover
- IPRS: Its licensing information covers works in its repertoire and describes internet non-interactive and interactive categories. Ask IPRS which license category and terms fit the intended stream; clear rights outside its represented repertoire with their owners.
- PPL: Its current tariff guidance says its license covers on-ground use and does not permit digital streaming of recordings. For digital sound-recording use, PPL advises contacting individual labels.
- Neither is blanket clearance: A document from one organization should not be treated as authorization for every composition, lyric, arrangement, performance, and sound recording in a playlist.
Why does YouTube stop a live stream for copyright?
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it identifies material, the stream may be interrupted or terminated; YouTube specifically warns that a licensed stream can still be interrupted if the channel has not been added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. A claim or interruption therefore does not, by itself, tell you whether your permission is valid or invalid. Keep the permission documents and track list available, and ask the owner to confirm the allowlist status and the process for resolving a mistaken or unexpected claim.
Set up the continuous playback system
Computer-based encoder
A computer running an encoder can publish a music playlist with a still or simple visual. Configure the encoder to use the stream key for the intended YouTube broadcast, select the authorized playlist, and verify that the outgoing video and audio match the source files. Keep the computer powered, prevent sleep or automatic shutdown, and arrange stable power and internet access. If either connection fails, playback can stop until you or an automated recovery process restores it.

Use the encoder and stream configuration shown for the YouTube broadcast you create, and verify the current requirements in YouTube Studio before going live. Do not treat another organization’s network figures as YouTube settings: NIC’s webcast guidance specifies a static public IP, outbound access on RTMP port 1935, and dedicated bandwidth of 2–4 Mbps per stream for NIC’s own webcast service. Those are NIC-specific requirements, not a YouTube bitrate recommendation or a guarantee of uninterrupted operation.
Dedicated hardware encoder
A hardware video encoder is an optional standalone publishing device for an operator who wants a dedicated continuous-streaming appliance. Check that it supports the chosen workflow and YouTube’s current ingest requirements. The available guidance establishes that encoders are used for webcasts; it does not establish that hardware is necessary, identify a suitable consumer model, or show that hardware is more reliable than a correctly maintained computer setup.

Plan the rotation and recovery
- Check that every item in the rotation is covered by the permissions and Content ID arrangements you obtained.
- Decide who or what will detect a stopped stream, failed encoder, silent audio, or broken network connection.
- Plan how to restore playback after power or internet loss. A backup connection and power plan can reduce reliance on one point of failure, but should be tested in the actual setup.
- Decide in advance whether to restart the stream after an interruption and whether the new broadcast should be archived.
There is no YouTube-specific 24/7 uptime design established by the NIC guidance. Treat uninterrupted operation as an operational goal that requires monitoring and recovery, not as a property guaranteed by an encoder or a single internet connection.
Choose live-only playback or an archived replay
Live playback and a saved replay are distinct uses. Before enabling an archive, confirm that your written permission covers the retained recording, its availability after the live event, and any monetization attached to it. YouTube says claims on archived live streams are made after the stream ends. If your permission covers only the live broadcast, do not assume that keeping the replay is included.

Troubleshoot common interruptions

Does a YouTube music license let me keep the replay?
Only if its scope includes the archived recording. Confirm replay and retention rights explicitly before turning on or keeping an archive.
