If OBS stops during a 24/7 devotional stream, first determine whether the OBS app crashed or froze, the stream disconnected while OBS stayed open, or YouTube stopped receiving or showing the feed. Those are different failures with different fixes. The available information cannot identify the cause of a particular outage without its OBS log and setup details, so use the symptoms below to narrow it down before changing settings.
Identify what “stopping” means
At the time of the failure, check these three things before restarting anything:
- OBS closed or froze: The application disappeared or became unresponsive. This points toward an application or system problem, not necessarily a network disconnect.
- OBS stayed open but disconnected: Look for reconnecting status or dropped frames. OBS says dropped frames or intermittent disconnections indicate a connection issue between the computer and the remote ingest server. OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting (published September 30, 2024) addresses this symptom.
- YouTube stopped receiving or showing the feed: Check YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room for whether an incoming feed is present. If the encoder feed is rejected or mismatched, verify the stream URL and key as described under YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
These observations help choose a troubleshooting path; none alone proves the root cause.
If OBS remains open but the stream disconnects
OBS identifies dropped frames as a sign that the connection is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. Enough dropped frames can lead to disconnection. Test network conditions before changing unrelated video or scene settings.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Test a different ingest server and a lower bitrate
- If OBS or the streaming service offers another ingest server, select a different one and see whether the disconnections continue.
- Lower the output bitrate and observe whether the connection stabilizes. OBS gives 75% of total upload speed as a starting point, not a guaranteed setting. Base your choice on stable upload speed and the streaming service’s limits; a connection that varies over time may not sustain the result of a single speed test.
- If practical, test another streaming service to help determine whether the issue is specific to one service. This is a diagnostic comparison, not a fix by itself.
Lower bitrate can reduce video quality. Treat it as a controlled test and adjust only after checking the stream’s actual stability.
Test a wired connection
If the streaming computer uses Wi-Fi, test it on a wired connection. OBS recommends wired networking because Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming. A wired test can help isolate the connection; it does not establish that a cable or Wi-Fi was the cause.

Check network software and equipment
If disconnections continue, check for VPN interference, firewall or antivirus interference, bundled network optimization utilities, outdated network drivers, router or modem connectivity problems, and faulty network hardware. Change one item at a time where possible so you can tell whether the result changes. OBS recommends contacting your ISP if its connection troubleshooting steps do not resolve the problem.

- Try enabling Network Optimizations and TCP pacing.
- Leave Bind to IP set to Default.
- Try IPv4 Only only if needed. If it makes no difference, return to the default IPv4/IPv6 setting.
- Dynamic bitrate adjustment is a fallback if the underlying connection problem cannot be resolved. OBS cautions that it does not fix the root cause and may reduce video quality.
Menu names can change between OBS versions. Consult the current OBS connection troubleshooting guide if a control is not where expected.
If OBS reports encoding overload or the video is choppy
Encoding overload or choppy output points to a performance path to investigate, rather than proving a network problem. OBS uses GPU resources to composite and render scenes. Its encoding performance troubleshooting guide recommends freeing GPU capacity and reducing the work OBS must do.

- On Windows, try running OBS as administrator as an initial check.
- Reduce GPU-heavy activity running alongside OBS.
- Reduce output resolution or frame rate if the system cannot sustain the current settings.
- Simplify scenes and sources; review browser sources and filters that add rendering work.
Change settings in small steps and check whether the overload or choppiness changes. These measures target rendering and encoding performance; do not treat them as a demonstrated fix for a network disconnect.

- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and check whether YouTube is receiving the encoder feed.
- Compare the stream URL and key shown for the intended stream with the URL and key entered in the encoder.
- If the key may have been compromised, a channel owner or manager can reset it in Live Control Room. Update OBS with the new key afterward; the old configured key will no longer match.
- Check YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop settings against the intended workflow. They control whether streaming can be started or stopped from the encoder.
Refer to YouTube’s encoder settings page for its current controls and explanations.
Keep evidence for the next failure
If the stream stops again, record the time and gather these details before assigning a cause:
- Whether OBS closed, froze, or remained open.
- The OBS status or exact message, including whether it showed dropped frames, reconnecting, or encoding overload.
- Whether YouTube’s Live Control Room still showed an incoming feed.
- Whether the computer was on Wi-Fi or wired networking, plus the configured bitrate.
- Recent changes to OBS, drivers, VPN, firewall or security software, and network equipment.
- The OBS log from the affected session.
Without the log, operating system, OBS version, platform details, and exact symptom, it is not possible to diagnose a particular stream reliably. These records help distinguish application failure, connection trouble, rendering overload, and encoder configuration issues.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded devotional recordings playing on YouTube while the home computer is off, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative to running OBS continuously: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live.
