1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo show one fixed cover or station image, add it to your OBS scene as an Image source alongside the radio audio. To change the cover as songs change, use a now-playing overlay that can read track metadata from your music player; an OBS image by itself will not update automatically.
Choose a fixed image or changing artwork
| Approach | Best for | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Static OBS Image source | One album cover, station logo, or background throughout the stream | It stays the same until you replace it. Make sure you have the right to use the image. |
| Metadata-driven browser overlay | Per-track artwork, often with title, artist, and progress | Requires a compatible player, API, or integration that supplies current track data and artwork. |
| Hosted radio feed routed into OBS | Stations already delivering audio through a hosted service | The feed route is separate from the artwork. Verify that your feed and metadata meet your needs. |
The picture is part of the video scene you send to YouTube. YouTube does not automatically read a radio stream’s track metadata and change your outgoing visual for you.
Show one fixed image in OBS
- Select the scene. In OBS, choose the scene you use for the radio broadcast, or create a new scene for it.
- Add the audio. Use the audio source appropriate to your setup. For example, a hosted station feed may be routed into OBS through a media source such as VLC Video Source; audio captured directly from a device may use Audio Input Capture. The exact source depends on how your station reaches the computer.
- Add the cover. In the Sources panel, select + and choose Image. Create or select the source, then browse to the image file.
- Arrange the scene. In the preview, position and resize the image. Arrange it with any station name, logo, or other visuals. Source order matters: a source placed above another can cover it.
- Check the preview and audio meters. Confirm that the image is visible and that OBS is receiving audio. Test the outgoing feed with a private or unlisted setup before relying on it for a broadcast.
A fixed image is the simplest choice when the visual does not need to follow each song. It can be a single cover or station graphic, provided you have permission to use it.
Make artwork change with each track
A static Image source cannot know when a song changes. For automatic updates, the artwork must come from the playback system or another service that exposes the current track and its image. Confirm that your player provides usable metadata before choosing an overlay.

Example: YTMDesktop2 with an OBS Browser Source
YTMDesktop2 documents an integration for its own supported playback. Its overlay uses the application’s local API and track-change events; it is not a universal connector for every internet-radio player.
- In YTMDesktop2, enable its local API.
- Open its OBS settings, choose a layout, and copy the overlay URL.
- In OBS, add a Browser source and paste the URL.
- Set the source dimensions to suit the layout. YTMDesktop2’s documentation suggests about 480 × 140 pixels for a compact card; fullscreen artwork needs a source sized for the scene.
- Check that the overlay updates when playback changes and that its text and artwork fit your scene.
The documented default card can show artwork, title, artist, and progress. Other layouts include compact, badge, ticker, stack, text-only, and fullscreen artwork. For another player, look for an integration built for it or confirm that it exposes an API or now-playing data with artwork; do not assume the YTMDesktop2 overlay can read it.

Check music and artwork permissions before going live
Displaying cover art does not grant permission to broadcast the recording or reproduce the image. Rights for the sound recording and the artwork may be separate, so check both.
YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. If it identifies material, it may replace the stream image with a placeholder, warn you to stop using the material, or temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. YouTube also says a rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid interruptions, even when you have a licence. An archived live video can receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast ends. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance before relying on a licence alone.

YouTube describes copyright-safe music as public-domain music or music used with the copyright owner’s permission. Calling a track “free” in the description does not prevent Content ID from identifying it. YouTube points creators to options such as its Audio Library, original music, Creator Music where available, or third-party music whose licence terms have been checked. See YouTube’s music safety guidance.
Creator Music has additional use restrictions: the terms surfaced in its guidance prohibit using licensed tracks to make an Art Track (a static image while the full song plays), a repetitive visualizer for the full song, a lyric video, or karaoke video. Check the current terms for the specific track and your region before using Creator Music in a continuous radio format. See Creator Music restrictions.

Prepare OBS and troubleshoot common problems
OBS Project says OBS has no watermark or commercial-use restriction. Its Auto-Configuration Wizard can help set initial streaming settings. Consult the OBS Help Portal for setup guidance; rising dropped frames can indicate an unstable connection or a bitrate your connection cannot sustain.
- The image does not appear: Check that the Image source points to the intended file, is enabled, and is not hidden behind another source. Reposition or resize it in the preview.
- The image is cropped or covers the whole scene: Adjust its size and position in the preview, and check its order relative to text, logos, and other sources.
- The audio is missing: Confirm you selected the correct audio route and that OBS’s audio meters move during playback. A hosted feed and audio captured directly from a device require different source choices.
- The cover does not change: A static Image source is expected to remain fixed. For changing art, confirm that the overlay is connected to the actual playback application and that the player supplies track and artwork metadata.
- The overlay is blank or stale: Check that the player’s local API is enabled, the Browser source has the correct overlay URL, and the chosen integration supports your playback source.
- The live video drops frames: Check connection stability and whether the selected bitrate exceeds what the connection can sustain; use the OBS Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point for stream settings.
- YouTube interrupts or replaces the stream image: Review the rights for the music and image, check for Content ID issues, and ask the rights owner about channel allowlisting if you have a licence. A licence does not guarantee uninterrupted live transmission when the channel is not allowlisted.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want an uploaded recording or playlist to keep a YouTube channel live without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud. Upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera, and it is for YouTube only.
