These options differ mainly in where the stream runs. OBS requires a computer and an operator to keep the local setup working; a cloud service can keep prerecorded playback running without a home computer. YouTube’s listings establish compatibility and product category, not measured uptime or a price comparison. Check each provider’s current workflow and terms before choosing.
How do I set up a YouTube live stream?
YouTube offers webcam, mobile, and encoder-based streaming. An encoder is the appropriate route when you want to use production equipment or send a continuous prerecorded feed. YouTube describes an encoder this way: “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” To connect one, use the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Enable live streaming. If this is the channel’s first live stream, request activation in YouTube Studio and allow up to 24 hours for enablement, as YouTube says this may be required.
- Schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and choose the Manage tab. Schedule a stream, either reusing earlier settings or creating new ones.
- Choose the encoder route. Select streaming software when prompted. For a local setup, install OBS Studio from its official source; for a cloud service, follow that provider’s current connection flow.
- Copy the connection details. In the YouTube stream settings, copy the server URL and stream key, then enter them in the encoder’s YouTube or RTMP settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the stream.
- Prepare and start the feed. Add the intended video or production inputs, check the preview and audio, then start the encoder. Confirm in Live Control Room that YouTube is receiving the feed before making the event public or sharing it.
Google’s API documentation distinguishes a broadcast event from the stream carrying the audio and video. It gives the example of a 24/7 feed continuing while a separate interview broadcast ends. In practice, the event record and the ongoing encoder feed are related but distinct; ending or changing an event does not necessarily mean the continuous feed itself has stopped.

How do I run a prerecorded Gurbani stream continuously with OBS?
OBS is the local, no-charge choice when you want direct control over the broadcast and are willing to maintain the computer and connection that send it. The YouTube directory confirms OBS is an encoder, but it does not establish OBS as a turnkey 24/7 looping service. Make a short test stream before relying on a continuous setup.
- Complete YouTube’s live enablement and schedule the stream in Live Control Room as described above.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube or the appropriate RTMP service option, and enter the server and stream key supplied by YouTube. Do not expose the key in a screen recording or public post.
- Add the video as a media source and enable looping if the recording is meant to repeat. Add any other permitted visual elements and verify that the audio is audible and synchronized in the preview.
- Start streaming in OBS. Watch Live Control Room until YouTube indicates it is receiving the feed, then verify the public event from a separate device or browser session.
- For a genuinely continuous broadcast, keep the PC, OBS, power, network, and media source running. Monitor the stream and be prepared to restart the encoder if the computer, software, or connection stops.
OBS is a better fit for live camera or microphone production than a cloud loop service, but a single-PC setup makes continuity depend on local power, internet, updates, and operator monitoring. YouTube’s verified directory identifies OBS as open source and no-charge; it does not promise unattended restart or managed recovery for a 24/7 channel.

What should I check before streaming Gurbani?
- Rights for the exact recording: devotional subject matter does not itself establish permission. Confirm the rights to the specific performance, recording, artwork, lyrics or translation, and video you plan to broadcast. The software and YouTube encoder listing do not grant those rights.
- Stream key security: use the key from the correct channel and event, and keep it private. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube’s stream settings and update the encoder.
- Audio and video: test the actual uploaded file or OBS scene before going public. Check for silence, clipping, unintended gaps, and an image that does not match the audio.
- Event and archive expectations: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that a continuous stream lasting 12 hours or more will be archived under that stated rule; preserve recordings separately if you need them.
- Content and monetization: permission to use material and eligibility for YouTube monetization are separate questions. Review YouTube’s current policies for the channel and the specific content rather than assuming that continuous or repeated playback is automatically acceptable.
What if the stream will not start or stay live?
- YouTube is not receiving video: check that live streaming is enabled, that the correct event is open, and that the encoder has the server URL and stream key for that event. Re-enter the current values if they do not match.
- The event exists but the feed is offline: scheduling a broadcast does not itself send video. Start the encoder or cloud service and verify signal arrival in Live Control Room.
- A local OBS stream stops: check whether the PC slept, OBS closed, power was interrupted, or the internet connection dropped. Restore the local setup and restart the encoder; continuous local streaming requires those components to remain available.
- The live feature is unavailable: a first-time channel may still be waiting for YouTube’s activation, which can take up to 24 hours.
- The archive is missing: YouTube’s stated automatic-archive condition covers streams under 12 hours. Keep an independent recording or arrange another preservation method when the stream exceeds that duration.
