Sometimes you can change a YouTube live stream setting without ending the broadcast, but it depends on how you started the stream and which field you want to change. YouTube explicitly says webcam-stream settings can be edited while live. For encoder and mobile streams, it documents metadata controls but does not confirm that every field remains editable after the broadcast starts. Changing stream details is also different from replacing the live audio or video feed.
First, identify what you need to update
“Update the video” can mean two different things:
- Change stream details or settings: for example, a chat setting, tags, monetization, title, description, or thumbnail. Whether a particular field can be changed during the broadcast depends on the streaming method and the controls available for that stream.
- Replace the incoming audio or video: for example, switch the video being sent by an encoder. YouTube’s instructions cited below do not establish that you can do this without interrupting the broadcast. Do not assume that editing stream details changes the live feed.
If the change you need is not available in the active stream’s controls, leave the broadcast running and share the correction in chat or through another appropriate channel.
Edit a webcam stream while it is live
YouTube’s webcam-stream instructions say to open the stream’s Edit controls in Live Control Room. YouTube specifically notes that settings can be changed whether the stream is live or not, and gives tags, monetization, and chat settings as examples. The page does not establish that every listing field, such as title or thumbnail, is editable during an active broadcast.

- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live to open Live Control Room.
- Open the current webcam stream in the relevant stream or management view.
- Select Edit.
- Find the setting you need. YouTube names tags, monetization, and chat settings as examples of settings managed there.
- Save the change, then check the stream’s management interface to confirm it was applied.

Edit an encoder or mobile stream
YouTube documents metadata editing from a stream’s settings page or while scheduling an encoder or mobile stream. Its instructions do not explicitly guarantee that every metadata field remains editable after the broadcast has started. Check the active stream’s own controls for the exact field before relying on a change.

If the field or video change is unavailable
For a title, description, thumbnail, or other detail
If the active stream does not offer the field you need, keep the broadcast running and communicate the correction in chat or another suitable channel. YouTube’s general instructions for editing details on uploaded videos do not prove that the same fields can be changed for every live stream while it is broadcasting.
For a different incoming audio or video feed
The cited YouTube help pages do not establish whether an encoder’s outgoing feed can be swapped without interruption. Treat a feed change as distinct from a metadata edit. Check the behavior of your encoder and stream setup before relying on a seamless switch.

For an edited version of something already streamed
YouTube lets you create a highlight during a stream or after it ends. A highlight is a separate edited video; it does not replace or alter the live feed.

Plan for the archive separately
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. After the broadcast, you can manage the archive in Studio; do not assume that editing the archive changes what viewers saw live.

If your goal is to keep uploaded videos looping as a YouTube live stream around the clock—not to switch a camera or replace an active encoder feed—StreamNeo is a cloud service for that separate task:
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud.
Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it does not re-encode or offer quality tiers. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery, and StreamNeo team support; the product is the same on every plan, with only the billing length changing. StreamNeo plays uploaded video to YouTube; it does not go live from a camera.
