To keep an Indian music YouTube stream running as songs change, put the tracks in an OBS Studio VLC Video playlist, keep the streaming scene and encoder output running, and test the joins and playlist restart before going live. OBS provides playlist, loop, and shuffle controls, but its documentation does not promise gapless playback or automatic audio crossfades. Get permission for the actual recordings and live use before you start: a playlist setting cannot prevent a copyright match or takedown.
Set up a playlist that advances without ending the live stream
In OBS Studio, add a VLC Video source to the scene you use for the broadcast. Add the files in the order you want them to play. The playlist can advance between items while the scene and stream output remain active; the source’s loop setting controls what happens after the final item.
- Install VLC. OBS requires VLC for its VLC Video source. If the source is missing, install VLC and restart OBS.
- Add the playlist source. In the OBS scene, select Sources, choose +, and select VLC Video. Name the source and confirm.
- Add your tracks. In the source properties, add the audio or video files to the playlist. OBS recognizes formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, WAV, MP4, MOV, and MKV, but actual compatibility depends on your system and setup.
- Choose sequence behavior. Leave Shuffle Playlist off to retain the listed order; turn it on to randomize playback.
- Choose end behavior. Turn on Loop Playlist if you want playback to restart after the last item. If it is off, the playlist will not repeat itself after reaching the end.
- Keep one stable output scene. Leave the scene containing the playlist active as the tracks change. The playlist handles media-item progression; you do not need to switch scenes for every song.
OBS documents the playlist controls, not a guarantee that two files will join without a pause, click, or other audible boundary. Treat smoothness as something to verify with your own files and configuration rather than an assured setting.
Test song changes, looping, and sound before going live
Run a private or unlisted technical rehearsal using the files and playlist order you intend to broadcast. Observe the stream output, not just the preview in OBS: this lets you check that the encoder is actually sending the changing media to YouTube.

- Listen to the end of one track and the beginning of the next. Check for silence, abrupt cuts, clicks, unexpectedly overlapping audio, or a volume jump.
- Listen through the last track and the restart at the top of the playlist if looping is enabled.
- Check the audio level across quiet devotional recordings and louder film or studio tracks. Adjust levels in your production setup if needed; lowering music volume does not make copyrighted music safe to rebroadcast.
- Confirm the intended files all play in the playlist and that your chosen fixed-order or shuffled behavior is actually in effect.
- Verify that OBS remains connected to YouTube as media advances, and that restarting OBS or recovering from an interruption does not leave the wrong scene or source selected.
If a boundary is not acceptable, inspect the files and source configuration, then rehearse again. The cited OBS documentation does not establish a per-track audio crossfade or gapless-playback control, so do not assume either is available just because OBS offers scene transitions.
Scene Fade and Cut change the picture, not the song mix
OBS has built-in Fade and Cut scene transitions, and their duration can be adjusted. Use them when you want to change the visual scene—for example, from a title card to a devotional image. They are not a documented audio crossfade between playlist tracks. A scene fade should not be presented as a way to smooth the music join.

For a steady music channel, a stable visual scene can avoid unnecessary scene changes while the playlist advances. If you do change visuals, test the scene transition separately from the audio boundary so you know which part of the production needs attention. OBS Studio Overview Guide
Confirm YouTube live eligibility and encoder connection
YouTube’s encoder workflow suits broadcasts using overlays and production hardware. Before scheduling an always-on stream, make sure the channel can go live, then confirm the encoder connects in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days to enable live streaming.

- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the live stream and retrieve its stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and connect the account or enter the stream key using YouTube’s current instructions.
- Start a private or unlisted test and verify the stream appears in Live Control Room before committing to the public broadcast.

Clear music rights before building the broadcast
Indian film songs, devotional recordings, Gurbani, independent releases, and other music can have rights holders and permissions that differ by recording, territory, platform, and use. Having an audio file, crediting the singer, or paying for a consumer listening subscription does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast that recording in a YouTube live stream or monetize it.

For copyright-protected music, YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with the label or distributor. Confirm that permission covers the actual sound recording, live broadcast, intended territories, and any monetization you plan. If using a licensing provider, verify those same points for the specific catalogue and usage; do not assume a general licence covers every Indian catalogue or live-stream use. YouTube’s live Content ID matching guidance describes escalating interruption: a match may first cause a warning, then replace the stream with a static image and no sound, and may ultimately terminate the stream if matching continues. Changing scenes or turning the music down does not avoid a rights match. Keep a rights-cleared fallback source or slate ready, but do not treat it as a substitute for obtaining permission.
