To loop a white-noise video on an actual YouTube livestream, add the video to an OBS Studio Media Source, enable Loop in that source’s properties, and send OBS to YouTube Live with an encoder stream key. YouTube’s player Loop control only repeats a video for an individual viewer; it does not create a livestream.
Before you start: check live access and your media rights
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. If this is your first live broadcast, enable streaming early: YouTube says initial access may take up to 24 hours, which is not a guarantee of approval within that time. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
- Use white-noise video and audio that you own or have permission to broadcast. Being labeled “white noise” does not establish that the recording, composition, or visuals are free to use.
- Have the video file available locally for OBS. OBS documents support for common formats including MP4 and MOV; see its Media Sources guide.
- Decide whether you need an archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not promise a complete automatic archive for streams lasting 12 hours or longer. If a full recording matters, keep a separate recording or plan a shorter broadcast. Details are in YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
Set up the looping video in OBS
- Install and open OBS Studio, then create or select a scene for the broadcast.
- In the scene’s Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source. Give the source a recognizable name.
- In the source properties, select the local white-noise video file and enable Loop. OBS explains that this setting restarts the media file after playback completes.
- Confirm the video fits the canvas in the OBS preview. Check that the intended audio is present and at a suitable level; a visible still image can be fine if that is what your video contains.
- Do not enable options such as Restart playback when source becomes active unless you want the file to restart when the source is activated. The essential setting for repeating the file is Loop.
The YouTube player’s own Loop command is different: it repeats playback for the viewer who selects it, rather than sending a continuous live feed. See YouTube’s player loop instructions.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live. Create or select the live stream in Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream’s server URL and stream key from the encoder setup page. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service if available, and enter the stream key. If using a custom server configuration, enter the server URL and key as directed by YouTube’s encoder workflow.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not show it in a screen recording, stream preview, screenshot, or public post. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting.
- Before going live, review the OBS preview and the YouTube Live Control Room preview. Confirm the picture and audio are both reaching YouTube, then start streaming from OBS and follow the Live Control Room workflow until the broadcast is live. YouTube’s steps are in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Choose encoder settings that fit your connection
There is no special white-noise bitrate that every channel must use. Select a resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate that match the source video, OBS workload, and stable upload capacity. A largely static image may need less video data than fast-moving footage, but audio quality still matters. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance rather than treating a single bitrate as universal.
- YouTube’s guidance covers H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, with protocol-specific qualifications. Pick an encoder and protocol combination supported by your setup and the current YouTube instructions.
- Keep the stream’s resolution and frame rate within what your file, encoder, and upload connection can reliably sustain. Do not raise them simply because the video is looping.
- You do not need HDR or HLS for this basic looping workflow. HLS is a separate setup path documented by YouTube at HLS ingestion setup.
- YouTube recommends leaving bandwidth headroom; its streaming tips page recommends 20% above the stream’s bitrate and warns that network disruption can break a broadcast. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
Test and monitor the overnight broadcast
Test before the overnight session rather than assuming a successful preview means the connection will stay up for hours. YouTube recommends checking stream health and monitoring audio and video quality. Its guidance is general reliability advice, not a promise of unattended operation.

#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Run a short test with the same OBS scene, encoder settings, network, and audio level you plan to use overnight.
- Check that the Media Source reaches the end and starts again, and listen across the loop boundary for a gap, click, abrupt volume change, or unintended silence.
- Verify YouTube Live Control Room reports a healthy incoming stream and that the public or unlisted viewing page plays correctly.
- Use a stable wired connection where practical, prevent the computer from sleeping, and ensure OBS is not set to shut down or stop streaming. A local power or network failure can interrupt the broadcast.
- For overnight use, arrange a way to check the stream and recover the setup if the computer, OBS, or connection fails. A loop repeats the file; it does not itself reconnect a failed broadcast.
Computer software or a standalone encoder?
OBS is a software-encoder route that runs on a computer, but a computer is not the only possible encoder. YouTube also describes standalone hardware encoders. Choose based on what you already have and whether it supports local-file playback or looping, your video format, and the YouTube streaming workflow you need. The available guidance does not establish a universal hardware winner or a specific model for every file and setup.
Common problems and fixes
The video plays once and stops
Open the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled on the source that is actually in the active scene. Check that the selected file is the intended local video.

YouTube shows no incoming video
Confirm OBS is streaming, the correct YouTube stream key is configured, and the correct stream is open in Live Control Room. Recheck the OBS preview and YouTube’s incoming-stream health indicators.
There is video but no sound
Check that the source’s audio is enabled in OBS, its meter moves during playback, and it is not muted in the mixer. Confirm audio is also present in YouTube’s preview before leaving the broadcast unattended.

The stream drops overnight
Check the connection, computer power and sleep settings, OBS status, and YouTube stream health. YouTube warns that network disruptions can break a stream. A local OBS setup requires the computer and connection to remain available; a loop setting alone cannot prevent disconnections.
The archive is incomplete or missing
Check the session duration. YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, but does not assure a complete automatic archive for longer streams. Use a separate local recording if you need a dependable full-length copy.
