To run sleep music on YouTube around the clock, verify that your channel can livestream, use music and visuals you have rights to broadcast, and send a continuous feed through an encoder or a cloud service built for prerecorded streams. Test the feed before making it public, keep an eye on stream health, and plan around YouTube’s archive and copyright rules. A 24/7 stream is not automatically eligible for monetization.
What you need before starting
- A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A continuous audio-and-visual feed. You can send one from a computer using encoder software or hardware, or use a cloud service designed for prerecorded streams.
- Music and visuals you are authorized to use in a YouTube livestream and, if relevant, its replay and monetization.
- A reliable internet connection for a local encoder, with enough upload capacity for the stream plus YouTube’s recommended 20% bandwidth headroom. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
How to create the stream with a local encoder
- Enable live streaming. Sign in to the channel, complete verification, and enable live streaming in YouTube Studio. If the channel is new to livestreaming, allow up to 24 hours for activation. Confirm there are no active eligibility restrictions before planning a launch.
- Prepare the media. Choose the authorized sleep-music recording and a visual that can remain on screen, such as an owned or licensed still image or animation. Make sure the audio and visual can play continuously in your chosen encoder. Keep documentation of the applicable licenses and permissions.
- Create a livestream in YouTube Live Control Room. Set the stream title, description, audience setting, and visibility. Create or select a stream, then copy its stream URL and stream key into your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to the channel.
- Configure the encoder and start sending. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders. OBS is one encoder YouTube lists as supporting HLS; HLS is not required simply because a stream is long-running. YouTube describes HLS as higher latency than RTMP and useful for HDR or codecs RTMP does not support. Follow the current encoder and protocol instructions in YouTube’s setup guide; the available evidence does not establish a sleep-stream-specific bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, or computer specification.
- Preview before going public. Wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room, check that the picture and sound are correct, and inspect stream health before starting the public broadcast. YouTube recommends monitoring the stream and leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate.
- Keep the system running and monitor it. For a local setup, the encoder computer and its connection must continue sending the feed. Plan how you will respond to power, internet, or software failures; YouTube does not prescribe a specific computer, UPS, or router for this use case.
Choose a continuous-stream method
The practical choice is between a local encoder and a cloud service intended for prerecorded 24/7 streams. YouTube’s encoder guidance identifies Gyre as an example of a cloud-based tool for that category, and OBS as an encoder option; the cited guidance does not establish comparative pricing or performance for either service. Compare whether a computer must stay powered on, how recovery and monitoring work, whether uploads and playlists loop, how the service handles sessions and archives, and what it costs and permits. Whatever method you use, you remain responsible for music rights and YouTube policy compliance.
Clear the music and visual rights before going live
A track being purchased, described as royalty-free, or available through a subscription does not by itself prove that it can be used in a continuous YouTube livestream. Check the actual license and rights chain for the composition and sound recording, live transmission, intended territories, replay/archive availability, and commercial use if you plan to monetize. The permissions required depend on the particular rights and jurisdictions; only the rights holder or a qualified adviser can resolve your situation.
YouTube’s livestream terms require creators to hold the necessary rights, including music licensing rights. YouTube also scans livestreams for third-party content; a match can interrupt or terminate a stream. Even licensed material may be interrupted if the channel is not on the relevant Content ID allowlist. Where applicable, ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and YouTube’s Content ID guidance.

Do not treat Creator Music as a blanket solution: YouTube’s terms for eligible Creator Music licensing or revenue-sharing tracks do not permit those tracks to be used in livestreams. See Creator Music usage details.
Plan for replays and interruptions
YouTube says livestreams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder guidance does not promise a complete archive for a longer uninterrupted stream, so do not rely on a 24-hour broadcast producing a full replay. If a replay matters, consider planned sessions under 12 hours and confirm current Live Control Room behavior before relying on the archive. See YouTube’s livestream archive guidance.

For a local encoder, decide who will notice a failed feed and how it will be restarted after a power, network, or software problem. For either local or cloud delivery, check stream health and confirm the feed is still reaching Live Control Room rather than assuming a successful launch means uninterrupted playback.
Monetization is a separate decision
Having permission to use music is not the same as qualifying for YouTube monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to livestreams, and its standard is original, authentic content. On July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified that its “repetitious content” policy covers repetitive or mass-produced material and renamed it “inauthentic content.” A channel made up of interchangeable, minimally varied streams may face an originality issue; ownership or licensing alone does not guarantee approval. These are channel-level reviews, not advance approval of a specific broadcast. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded material in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot supports one always-on stream, playlists and 24/7 looping, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, without re-encoding or quality tiers. Storage is 10 GB per slot, pooled across active slots. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The same features are included on every plan; only the billing period changes.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. You remain responsible for the rights to your uploaded music and visual assets and for YouTube’s rules. Start your free StreamNeo day.

Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Live streaming is unavailable | The channel is not verified, activation is still pending, or the channel has a live-streaming restriction. | Check eligibility in YouTube’s live-streaming guidance, complete verification, allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation, and resolve any restriction before retrying. |
| Live Control Room receives no feed | The encoder has not started, or the stream URL or key is incorrect. | Confirm the encoder is sending and that the URL and key match the stream created in Live Control Room. If needed, generate or copy the correct key again and update the encoder. |
| Feed quality is unstable | The connection may not have enough upload capacity or may be unreliable. | Check the encoder and Live Control Room stream health, use a more reliable connection, and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% bandwidth headroom above total stream bitrate. |
| Livestream is interrupted or terminated | A third-party content match may have been detected, including music not allowlisted for the channel. | Review the notice and rights status. Confirm that your permissions cover livestream use and ask the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting where applicable; do not restart with the same disputed asset until you have resolved the issue. |
| No complete replay appears | The stream lasted 12 hours or longer, outside YouTube’s stated automatic-archive threshold. | For a replay you need, plan sessions under 12 hours and verify current archive behavior in Live Control Room. |
