To schedule unattended prerecorded playback, choose Create → Live Stream → Pre-recorded video in StreamYard, select or upload your video, choose YouTube, set the broadcast details and time, then create it. StreamYard says playback starts automatically at the scheduled time and ends when the video finishes. This is different from scheduling a standard Studio broadcast, which still requires a host to enter the studio and click Go Live.
Before you schedule
- Enable YouTube live streaming. StreamYard lists this as a prerequisite for scheduling a YouTube Live stream through its dashboard. This is the prerequisite stated in StreamYard’s guide, not a complete account of YouTube’s current eligibility rules. StreamYard’s YouTube Live scheduling guide.
- Prepare the video file. StreamYard’s help article specifies MP4 with H.264 video encoding, at up to 10 Mbps. It says prerecorded broadcasts stream at up to 1080p on paid plans; check the current article and your plan before relying on a particular limit. StreamYard’s prerecorded streaming guide.
- Check duration, file size and scheduling capacity. Limits vary by plan; the plan-dependent figures are listed below.
Schedule the prerecorded broadcast
- In StreamYard, go to Create → Live Stream.
- Choose Pre-recorded video as the source. Do not choose the standard Studio workflow if you need the broadcast to start unattended.
- Select Select recording. Upload a video from your computer or choose a past StreamYard broadcast.
- Choose your YouTube channel as the destination. Add the title and description, then set the date and time for the broadcast.
- Decide whether to create an announcement post. It is optional; its timing affects when the YouTube watch link appears.
- Create the broadcast and check its scheduled details in StreamYard.
StreamYard says the prerecorded video begins at the scheduled time and finishes when playback ends. The prerecorded output is automated: unlike a standard Studio broadcast, it does not let you control overlays or media assets during playback. See How to schedule a stream and Pre-recorded Streaming.

When the YouTube link becomes available
For a scheduled prerecorded broadcast, StreamYard says the YouTube link is created at the announcement time, not necessarily when you schedule the broadcast. If you do not schedule an announcement, the link appears when the stream goes live. If you need a shareable link earlier, schedule the announcement for an earlier time. StreamYard says you cannot edit an existing prerecorded stream to add an announcement afterward; create a new broadcast to change this timing. Its prerecorded-stream guide also associates the thumbnail option with scheduling an announcement post, while the separate YouTube scheduling guide describes a thumbnail option for its ordinary scheduled Live workflow. StreamYard’s help article publishes the following prerecorded-stream limits. They are vendor specifications, not independent test results, and may change; confirm current limits on the linked help pages and your plan before scheduling.

Troubleshoot upload or playback problems
- The upload fails or the video lags: Check that the file matches StreamYard’s stated MP4/H.264 format and bitrate guidance, and make sure it is within your plan’s file-size limit. StreamYard suggests trying a re-encode with HandBrake for upload trouble or lag. It is a troubleshooting option, not a guaranteed fix.
- The stream does not start unattended: Verify that you selected Pre-recorded video, rather than scheduling a standard Studio broadcast. The Studio workflow needs a host to enter and click Go Live.
- You cannot schedule another prerecorded broadcast: Check the plan’s maximum number schedulable at once and whether existing scheduled broadcasts are using that capacity.
- The YouTube link is not available yet: Check the announcement time. Without an announcement, StreamYard says the link appears when the broadcast goes live.
- You expected a saved copy in StreamYard: StreamYard says prerecorded broadcasts are no longer automatically saved to its library. Do not assume the scheduled output will be retained there.
- YouTube is unavailable as a destination: Confirm that live streaming is enabled for the channel, as StreamYard’s YouTube scheduling guide requires. For other account or eligibility issues, consult YouTube’s current channel guidance; the StreamYard guide does not establish every YouTube rule.
