Apple’s U.S. launch price starts at $1,299; vivo Philippines lists the X Fold5 at ₱109,999. Those prices are from different countries, so they are not a like-for-like value comparison.
Price: compare in the same country
Apple announced a U.S. starting price of $1,299 for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage options. Apple said availability began September 18, 2026. These are U.S. launch details, not a current quote for every retailer or market. Apple’s launch announcement has the configuration details.
vivo Philippines lists the X Fold5 in a 16GB RAM/512GB storage configuration for ₱109,999. Android Central reported an India launch price of ₹149,999 for the 16GB/512GB model in July 2025. The peso and rupee figures apply to different markets and dates; neither should be treated as directly comparable with Apple’s U.S. price.
For a practical local comparison, check official prices for the same storage tier and account for taxes, warranty coverage, carrier offers and trade-in terms. The listed prices alone do not establish which phone is better value.

Specifications are manufacturer-listed, not results from a standardized comparison test. Apple’s technical specifications give the iPhone dimensions as 163.4 × 78.0 × 8.75mm and its weight as 249g. vivo lists the X Fold5 at 217g, 9.2mm thick when folded and 4.3mm when unfolded. Which screen format suits you?
The iPhone provides one large display in a familiar slab design. The X Fold5 offers a smaller exterior screen for closed-phone use and a substantially larger inner canvas when unfolded. That extra room may suit people who often read, view documents or use apps on a broad screen; it also means deciding whether a foldable’s two-screen format fits how you carry and use a phone. Screen size by itself does not establish display quality or practical superiority.

Performance, software and support
The listed platforms are Apple’s A20 Pro with iOS 27 at launch and vivo’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with Android 15/Funtouch OS 15 on its Philippines page. The more useful deciding factors are the apps and services you rely on, your preference for iOS or Android, and the availability of local warranty and service support. The software version cited for vivo is specific to that regional product page; verify the version offered in your market.
Cameras: resolution is not a verdict
Apple specifies a 48MP Fusion main camera with variable aperture; vivo lists three 50MP rear cameras covering main, telephoto and ultrawide roles. Those figures describe different camera configurations and do not show which phone produces better photos or video. Megapixel counts alone cannot answer that; look for independent tests comparing the exact models under comparable scenes and settings.

Battery and protection claims need context
Apple’s playback and usage-hour claims and vivo’s battery-capacity and charging figures measure different things. They do not establish which phone lasts longer in ordinary use. Likewise, IP68, IP5X, IPX8 and IPX9 are distinct protection designations; they should not be collapsed into a simple claim that one device is “more waterproof.” Check each manufacturer’s conditions and usage notes before treating a rating as a promise about a particular exposure.

Android Central’s July 16, 2025 review described the X Fold5 as “one of the best foldables you can buy in 2025,” while qualifying that view by availability in markets where vivo sells it. That is one publication’s reviewer opinion, not a user-rating statistic. Tom’s Guide also published an iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max review on September 20, 2026, but a review from another outlet does not create a shared rating scale. Which phone should you choose?
- Choose the iPhone 18 Pro Max if you want a conventional flagship design, prefer Apple’s software ecosystem, or value its listed camera and display features.
- Choose the vivo X Fold5 if unfolding a phone into a larger inner display is the main feature you want and its Android software, local price and support suit you.
- Compare before buying if price, battery life, camera quality or protection is the deciding factor: use same-market prices and comparable independent tests rather than treating manufacturer figures as a head-to-head result.
