Yes. You can keep a YouTube Live feed running all day with an encoder, but continuous streaming is not a guarantee against interruptions—and YouTube may not archive a stream that runs longer than 12 hours. If you need a complete replay, record locally and check that the recording is being saved.
What “all day” means for the live feed and its replay
YouTube supports continuous streaming through an encoder workflow, using software or standalone hardware. That means an all-day feed is technically possible; it does not guarantee that a particular channel, encoder or internet connection will stay live without interruption. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
Plan the live session and the recording as separate things. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is a risk, not a stated guarantee that every longer stream will be lost. If the church needs the full service or broadcast as a replay, make a local recording and verify it is being saved. YouTube’s archive guidance also recommends keeping a local backup.
Choose a setup that fits the service
| Choice | Best fit | Trade-off to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder | A church using a computer-based production setup and seeking a flexible, accessible option. | The computer and its connection are part of the live chain; YouTube does not promise uninterrupted operation. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | A production with dedicated equipment or more demanding camera and audio needs. | It is optional, not a YouTube requirement; choose it according to the production, staff and budget. |
| One long live session | Viewers need one continuous feed. | A session over 12 hours may not be archived by YouTube, so arrange a local recording. |
| Separate service streams | Each service needs its own live event and easier per-event archive management. | It is less continuous for viewers and requires managing separate streams. |
| Primary encoder with tested backup | The church needs a recovery plan if its main encoder fails. | There is extra setup; YouTube advises testing encoder failover if a backup encoder is used. |
YouTube describes both software and hardware encoder options and notes that professional-grade hardware may suit higher-production events. The right choice depends on the church’s cameras, audio, staffing and budget, rather than on a universal hardware requirement. YouTube’s streaming tips cover preparation and failover testing.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up and test the YouTube Live feed
- Confirm the channel can go live. Live streaming must be enabled on a verified channel without a live-streaming restriction. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, and its eligibility guidance says the channel must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. Check YouTube’s computer live-streaming tips before planning the first broadcast.
- Choose an encoder. Use software or standalone hardware suited to the production. YouTube’s encoder instructions explain how to connect an encoder to a live stream: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Get the stream URL and key. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, obtain the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in the encoder. Treat the key as a credential: do not display or share it publicly, and replace it if it is exposed.
- Configure and test ahead of time. YouTube advises configuring the encoder at least two hours ahead, starting it at least 15 minutes before the planned event, and reviewing the preview before going live. If using a backup encoder, test failover rather than assuming it will work.
- Start a local recording if a full replay matters. Confirm that the recording file is being written and check it after the service. Do not rely solely on YouTube’s archive for a session longer than 12 hours.
- Monitor the broadcast. Check that the watch page and channel page are accessible, and monitor audio and video throughout the stream. These checks reduce avoidable surprises; they are not an uptime guarantee.
YouTube’s preparation recommendations are in its streaming tips.
Protect the service from rights and access problems
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. If it identifies third-party material, a placeholder may replace the stream; if the material remains, the stream can be temporarily interrupted or terminated. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a live stream. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the rights needed for live content, explicitly including music licensing rights, and to comply with applicable laws and regulations. A license by itself may not prevent an interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel in Content ID. The specific permissions a church needs depend on its territory, repertoire and existing arrangements; YouTube’s general terms do not determine those legal obligations.
Common problems and practical fixes
- Live streaming is not available yet: verify that the channel is verified and eligible, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. Check for an existing restriction before the service date.
- The encoder is not reaching YouTube: recheck that the stream URL and key in the encoder match the event in YouTube Studio. If the key may have been exposed, replace it and update the encoder.
- The stream is live but the replay is missing or incomplete: a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. Use a local recording for the full copy and confirm that it is being saved during the broadcast.
- The live feed is interrupted over music or video: review rights for every third-party element and check whether the rights owner needs to allowlist the channel in Content ID. YouTube may interrupt or terminate a feed when it detects third-party content.
- A backup encoder does not take over: test failover in advance, as YouTube recommends, and verify both the backup configuration and the recovery steps staff will use.
- Viewers cannot access the broadcast or audio/video quality changes: check the watch page and channel page, then monitor the feed and production audio and video. The appropriate network capacity and encoder settings depend on the selected resolution, frame rate and connection; YouTube’s cited guidance does not establish one bitrate or upload-speed figure for every church.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep a prerecorded church service video looping on YouTube Live—not to broadcast a camera feed—StreamNeo is a cloud option. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded video at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and gives each account a first day free with no card. The monthly plan is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube and uploaded videos, not a live camera production. Start the free day on StreamNeo.

If you need the church service itself captured live from cameras, an encoder-based production is the relevant setup. Whichever approach you use, rights clearance, monitoring and a separate recording plan matter when the complete service needs to be preserved.
