To reconnect a church stream, check the event and error in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then check whether your encoder is still producing a healthy feed. Restart or correct the encoder only after confirming the selected stream and key; if the encoder looks healthy but YouTube receives nothing, investigate the outbound internet connection. Verify the event is receiving audio and video before telling viewers the stream is back.
How do I reconnect my YouTube live stream after it disconnects?
- Check YouTube’s view of the event. In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go Live and select the scheduled or current event in Live Control Room. Open the Stream tab and review the health indicator, visible errors, and their timestamps. Red errors are critical; yellow errors are moderate. See YouTube’s live streaming error messages.
- Check the encoder output. Look at its preview and output, audio, connection state, reported errors, CPU load, and any local recording. YouTube recommends checking encoder output and errors when troubleshooting. If the local output is unhealthy, address the indicated source, audio, software, or system-load problem before restarting.
- Confirm the event and stream key. Make sure the encoder is pointed at the intended YouTube event and is using the key shown in Live Control Room. A stream key identifies the YouTube ingest destination and lets YouTube accept the encoder feed. If the key is wrong, enter the current key in the encoder. YouTube describes keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address” in Manage live stream settings.
- Start or restart the encoder. Once the selected event and key are confirmed, start the encoder or restart its output. Watch Live Control Room to see whether YouTube begins receiving the feed.
- Follow the specific error. If YouTube reports an incorrect-format error, its guidance specifies H.264 video and AAC audio for proper ingestion. Correct the encoder settings, then check the event again in Live Control Room.
- Verify before announcing recovery. Confirm that Live Control Room shows the event receiving the feed and that picture and sound are right. An outage does not guarantee that the viewer-facing event resumes as the same session, so check its status before promising continuity.
Why did my church livestream go offline?
Locate where the failure appears before changing settings. Compare the encoder’s own output and connection indicators with YouTube’s Live Control Room health and errors. That distinction helps separate a local encoder problem from a key or format issue, or a network path problem.
| What you see | Likely area to check next |
|---|---|
| Encoder output is unhealthy or the encoder reports errors | Capture and audio sources, encoder error details, CPU load, and software version. |
| Encoder output looks and sounds healthy, but YouTube is not receiving it | Outbound internet connectivity between the encoder and YouTube’s ingest server; contact the ISP if the connection is faulty. |
| Live Control Room reports a format error | The format specified by the error. YouTube’s cited guidance calls for H.264 video and AAC audio. |
| The encoder reports dropped frames or intermittent disconnections | The network path to the remote ingest server. The configured bitrate may exceed what an unstable connection can sustain. |
YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking encoder output and errors; if local output is healthy but the feed is not reaching YouTube, investigate the connection. OBS Project’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting says dropped frames or intermittent disconnections indicate a network issue between the computer and remote ingest server. Too many dropped frames can lead to disconnection. Check outbound connection quality and ask the ISP for help if it is faulty.
When should you reset the stream key?
Do not reset the key as a general response to every disconnect. First confirm that the encoder is using the key assigned to the intended event. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends obtaining a new key and updating the encoder for a third-party encoder startup error; that advice is specific to that error, not a universal fix. Resetting can also be appropriate if a key may be wrong or compromised. After a reset, update the encoder with the new key or it will no longer send to the configured destination. YouTube says only an owner or manager can reset a key.

How do I reconnect OBS to YouTube Live?
Use OBS’s connection status and output alongside the event’s status in Live Control Room; neither view alone tells you everything. If OBS shows dropped frames or intermittent disconnections, troubleshoot the network path rather than assuming the stream key is the cause. If OBS output is healthy but YouTube receives no feed, check outbound connectivity. If YouTube identifies a key, event, or format error, follow that specific indication and then verify receipt in Studio.
Will my YouTube livestream come back if the internet drops?
Not necessarily. If the connection between the encoder and YouTube’s ingest server fails, YouTube may stop receiving the feed. Whether the viewer-facing event resumes as the same session after reconnection is not guaranteed by the cited guidance. Once the connection returns, confirm the event’s status and working audio and video in Live Control Room before treating it as recovered.
