To broadcast a pre-recorded video or playlist as a live stream, create a pre-recorded stream in Castr, add MP4 videos, choose Loop, enable YouTube as a destination, and start the broadcast. This gives viewers a shared live timeline. YouTube’s own Loop control is different: it repeats playback for one viewer and does not start a live stream for your channel.
Choose the kind of loop you need
| Option | What happens | How it starts |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube player Loop | Repeats a video or playlist for the individual viewer; it is not a channel broadcast. | The viewer turns it on in the playback interface. |
| Castr Loop mode | Broadcasts a pre-recorded video or playlist continuously to enabled destinations. Viewers joining later see the current point in the broadcast. | Start it in Castr. |
| Castr Date & Time mode | Broadcasts the pre-recorded program from a scheduled start rather than immediately running a continuous loop. | Starts at the selected time, using the device’s time zone. |
If you only want to repeat a video while watching YouTube, use the player control: on desktop, right-click the video and choose Loop; on Android, open Settings, then Additional settings, and choose Loop video. On a TV, use the player’s Repeat control. For a live broadcast that channel viewers can join, use Castr’s pre-recorded stream workflow instead.
Before you start
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days.
- Prepare the video files as MP4, or select videos already in Castr’s Video Hosting library.
- Decide whether you want an immediate continuous loop or a scheduled start. For scheduling, check the device time zone used to set the start.
- If you need a complete recording of the broadcast, keep a separate local archive. YouTube may not archive streams that exceed 12 hours.
Set up a looping broadcast in Castr
- Open Pre-Recorded Streams. In the Castr Dashboard, open Pre-Recorded Streams and create a new pre-recorded stream.
- Add your videos. Upload MP4 files or select recorded videos from Castr’s Video Hosting library. If you use several videos, arrange their order, toggle individual videos on or off as needed, and check the displayed total playlist duration.
- Choose the run mode. Select Loop to repeat the playlist continuously. To begin at a chosen time rather than start an immediate continuous loop, select Date & Time and set the start time. Castr’s scheduler uses your device’s time zone.
- Add YouTube as a destination. Connect YouTube and confirm that the destination is enabled. Castr can send the broadcast to other configured destinations too, but YouTube must be enabled for it to appear there.
- Start and verify the broadcast. Start the stream, or let it begin at the scheduled time. Check the broadcast preview and confirm that it is live on the intended YouTube channel before relying on it.
What viewers see—and what YouTube may not save
With Castr Loop, the channel broadcasts a shared live timeline. A viewer who joins after the start sees the program at its current point rather than starting the video from the beginning just for them. This is different from the YouTube player’s viewer-side Loop control.
For streams longer than 12 hours, YouTube says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. YouTube also says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If retaining the full program matters, keep your own local copy rather than relying on YouTube’s archive.

Troubleshooting
- The video repeats for me, but there is no live broadcast. You have enabled YouTube’s player Loop, which affects your playback only. Create a Castr pre-recorded stream and start it with YouTube enabled as a destination.
- The broadcast does not appear on YouTube. Confirm YouTube is connected and enabled in the Castr destination settings, then check the preview and the intended channel.
- The scheduled stream starts at an unexpected time. Check the time zone on the device used to schedule it; Castr’s scheduler uses that time zone.
- You cannot start a YouTube live stream. Check that the channel is verified and has had no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days.
- The playlist does not contain the intended videos or order. Review the selected files, their ordering, and each video’s on/off toggle in the pre-recorded stream setup.
- The stream’s recording is incomplete or unavailable. A broadcast exceeding 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube, and DVR rewind can be limited on long streams. Keep a separate local archive when a full recording is important.
