Can a 24/7 YouTube Stream Earn Money if Viewers Use Ad Blockers?

Yes. A 24/7 YouTube stream can earn revenue if its channel qualifies for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), monetization is enabled for the stream, and the creator accepts the Watch Page Monetization Module. An ad blocker may stop ads from appearing for the viewer using it, but YouTube’s guidance does not say ad blockers automatically disqualify an otherwise eligible channel. Neither continuous airtime nor monetization settings guarantee that an ad will run on every view.

What determines whether the creator earns?

Three conditions matter: the channel’s eligibility for YPP revenue sharing, the applicable monetization terms, and whether YouTube serves an ad or another eligible revenue source applies. A stream running around the clock is not, by itself, a source of guaranteed income. YouTube may also show ads on content from creators who are not eligible to share in that ad revenue, so seeing an ad does not prove the channel earns from it. YouTube Partner Program overview

  • YPP eligibility: The channel must qualify for the relevant revenue features.
  • Monetization terms: For Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium revenue, the creator must accept the Watch Page Monetization Module.
  • Policy compliance: YouTube monetization policies apply to live streams. Content, rights, advertiser suitability, valid traffic, and YPP terms can affect monetization.

These conditions determine whether a creator can earn through the program; they do not guarantee an ad impression or a particular amount of revenue.

What an ad blocker changes

YouTube says viewers using ad-blocking software or browser extensions may not see ads. That can remove an ad opportunity in an affected viewing session. The official guidance does not quantify the revenue impact for a particular channel or say what share of its views use blockers. It also notes that ads do not appear on every video view. So the careful answer is that blockers may reduce ad exposure for the affected viewers, but there is no reliable blocker-specific loss percentage to apply to a 24/7 stream. A creator should not infer how much revenue blockers cost from total views alone.

Live-stream ads are opportunities, not promises

When live-stream monetization is enabled, YouTube can serve pre-roll and display ads, and creators can configure mid-roll opportunities. YouTube’s systems decide whether a slot serves; different viewers may see ads at different times, and viewers continue watching if no ad runs. As YouTube Help puts it: “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” YouTube: Monetize your live stream

Choose how to manage mid-rolls

  • Automatic: YouTube describes automatic mid-rolls as the recommended option. The creator can use the Live Control Room delay feature to avoid placing automatic mid-rolls during important moments.
  • Scheduled: The creator can schedule breaks at 6, 12, 18, 24, or 30 minute intervals.
  • Manual: The creator can insert breaks when appropriate.

These settings create possible ad opportunities; they do not set a guaranteed ad cadence or ensure that every slot serves.

How to interpret YouTube’s automatic mid-roll statistic

YouTube reported that creators who chose live automatic mid-rolls saw, on average, over 20% uplift in in-stream ad revenue per hour. That platform-reported comparison was based on channels across 207 countries that enabled the feature versus channels that did not. It is not a guarantee, an estimate of ad-blocker losses, or proof that automatic mid-rolls caused the difference. YouTube: Monetize your live stream

How to check your own live-stream revenue

  1. Open YouTube Studio and go to Analytics.
  2. Use the Live filter to review live-stream and live-replay ad revenue.
  3. Compare periods and streams using the same date range and context; do not treat a change in revenue as proof that ad blockers caused it.

YouTube’s analytics terminology distinguishes RPM, a creator-focused measure of total revenue after revenue share across listed sources, from playback-based CPM, an advertiser-focused measure associated with monetized playbacks and advertiser spend before revenue share. Neither metric, as described in YouTube’s guidance, isolates revenue lost specifically to ad blockers. YouTube Analytics: understand ad revenue metrics

Other revenue routes—and their limits

Depending on channel eligibility and feature terms, YPP may offer YouTube Premium revenue, channel memberships, Super Chat and Super Stickers, Super Thanks, and Shopping. These can diversify a creator’s revenue, but an ad-blocking viewer should not be assumed to generate any of them. Each depends on its own eligibility and on what viewers actually do. YouTube Partner Program: ways to earn

Protect monetization without misleading viewers

  • Use content and materials you have the rights to use, and follow YouTube’s monetization policies for live streams as well as other formats.
  • Avoid invalid traffic or schemes to inflate views or ad activity. YouTube says invalid traffic can lead to revenue adjustments, ad limits, payment delays, or loss of monetization. YouTube: Check your YouTube revenue
  • Do not ask viewers to click ads. A stream’s revenue should come from eligible, valid activity—not instructions to manipulate ad engagement.
  • Review Analytics for what YouTube reports, and avoid attributing performance changes to blockers when the platform does not identify them as the cause.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the question is also how to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running continuously, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist live from the cloud. You upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on; StreamNeo can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. It streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. This helps with stream continuity, but it does not make ad delivery or earnings guaranteed. Start the free day on StreamNeo.
