How to Create a 24/7 YouTube Synthwave Radio Stream

To run a 24/7 synthwave radio stream on YouTube, first secure music and visual rights that explicitly cover continuous live broadcasts, then create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, test the feed, and monitor it after launch. YouTube does not require every creator to own dedicated hardware, but it does require the channel to meet its live-stream eligibility rules and the streamer to have the necessary rights for all content.

1. Confirm your channel can livestream

YouTube’s encoder-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. The 90-day period is an eligibility rule in YouTube Help; check your channel’s current status before building the broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

For a designed radio-style feed—with music and a visual loop—encoder streaming is the relevant approach. YouTube describes encoder streams as supporting hardware and overlays, and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events. That is not a requirement to buy dedicated hardware: choose an encoder setup that suits your production and the reliability you need.

2. Clear the music before you build the stream

Music rights are the main gate. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have all necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of the live content, including music rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Read the YouTube Livestream terms and conditions and get written permission for the exact way you plan to use each track.

A description such as “royalty-free” does not, by itself, establish permission for a continuous YouTube livestream. Ask the rights holder to confirm the license scope in writing before adding a track to the rotation.

What to confirm in writing

  • Permission for YouTube live streaming, including continuous and repeated playback.
  • Territories covered; YouTube’s terms refer to worldwide rights.
  • Whether monetization is permitted, if you intend to monetize.
  • Whether the completed stream may remain available as an archive or video on demand. Live and archive rights can differ.
  • License duration, attribution requirements and the specific tracks or recordings covered.
  • How the rights holder handles YouTube Content ID, including whether your channel must be allowlisted.

Keep the agreement and a track list with titles, artists, recording details and license notes. YouTube says it scans every live stream for matches to third-party content. If a match is detected, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder image and warn you; unresolved content can lead to a temporary interruption or termination. Even licensed third-party music can trigger an interruption if the owner has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID. Completed archives may receive Content ID claims after the broadcast. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams. A written license is not a guarantee that YouTube’s automated systems will leave the stream uninterrupted.

Creator Music is not a shortcut for this format: YouTube’s usage-details page says the described revenue-sharing requirements exclude live streams. Do not assume a Creator Music license authorizes a 24/7 live broadcast; get explicit live-stream rights and verify archive rights separately. See YouTube Creator Music usage details.

3. Plan the radio format and visual loop

Decide how the broadcast should work before configuring the encoder. These choices affect the assets you need, the rights to request and the way you test the feed.

  • Rewind and archive: Decide whether viewers should be able to rewind and whether the completed stream will remain available. Confirm the relevant YouTube settings and rights before launch; archive permission is not automatically included in live permission.

YouTube’s documentation does not prescribe a single architecture for uninterrupted 24/7 availability. Your chosen setup should account for encoder dropouts and give you a workable way to notice and respond to problems.

4. Create the encoder stream in YouTube Studio

Once the channel is eligible and your assets are cleared, create the live event using YouTube’s encoder workflow. Labels and layout can change, so follow the current live-control-room prompts in Studio.

  1. Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go live. Choose the encoder-stream workflow and set the stream details, visibility and other event options for your test or launch.
  2. Copy the stream key and server information shown in the live control room. Enter them in your encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key as a credential: do not publish it, put it in a public screenshot or share it with anyone who should not be able to send a feed to your channel.
  3. Set the encoder to send the intended program. Add the music playlist and visual loop, then configure output resolution and bitrate for the encoder and connection you are using. YouTube’s checklist is the reference for its current encoder guidance; do not assume a particular resolution or bitrate suits every source or connection.
  4. Start the encoder and wait for YouTube to receive the feed. Review the preview in Studio before starting the public broadcast. If the preview is wrong or absent, troubleshoot the encoder connection before going live.
  5. Start the live event from Studio when the preview and checks are satisfactory. Open the watch page and confirm it behaves as expected for viewers.

For current setup details and the stream-key workflow, use YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

5. Rehearse, launch and monitor the stream

Do a rehearsal before announcing a continuous broadcast. YouTube’s encoder checklist recommends previewing before starting, checking watch-page and mobile accessibility, checking local archive integrity, testing failover and continuously monitoring audio and video quality. The following runbook applies those checks to a radio-style stream; the specific alerting and staffing are choices for your setup.

  • Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.

  • What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
  1. Run a suitable test event. Use an unlisted or private rehearsal if that suits your channel and audience plans. Check the preview and watch page on desktop and mobile.
  2. Listen and watch through the loop. Check audio level, distortion, silence, unexpected gaps and transitions. Confirm the visual loop displays correctly and does not freeze or reveal anything unintended.
  3. Check the local recording or archive path. If you plan to keep a recording, verify that it contains the expected audio and video. Do not assume a local file proves you have archive rights.
  4. Test any backup or failover path you have configured. Confirm that you know how to switch or restart the feed. YouTube recommends testing failover but does not prescribe a 24/7 uptime architecture.
  5. Document a response procedure. Record who checks the stream, how to detect a dropped encoder or rights warning, how to replace a problematic track and how to restart or escalate an incident.
  6. Monitor after launch. YouTube recommends continuous monitoring of stream quality. Use an appropriate way to notice audio, video, connection or rights problems; monitoring and alerting details depend on your setup.

6. Troubleshoot interruptions and rights warnings

YouTube does not receive the encoder feed

  • Check that the encoder is using the current stream key and server information displayed in Studio.
  • Confirm the encoder is actually sending the program and that the connection is stable.
  • Return to the Studio preview and resolve the connection issue before starting or restarting the public event.

The stream shows a placeholder or gets interrupted

  • Check Studio for a copyright warning or other restriction. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches, and unresolved matches can interrupt or terminate a broadcast.
  • Stop or replace the disputed material rather than repeatedly restarting unchanged content.
  • If you have a license, contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting for your channel. A license document alone may not prevent automated matching.

The live stream works, but the archive receives a claim

Live permission and archive permission may not be the same, and YouTube says completed streams may receive Content ID claims. Review the rights you obtained for replay or VOD use and the rights holder’s Content ID instructions before deciding how to handle the archive.

The channel cannot start a live stream

Check channel verification and whether YouTube has applied a live-stream restriction within the previous 90 days. The eligibility requirements are channel-specific; the general guidance cannot confirm your account’s status.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want the uploaded synthwave program to loop on YouTube without leaving a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera, and it streams to YouTube only.

  • Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on for the stream to continue.
  • One flat price per slot covers the quality of the uploaded video, up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
  • It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
  • The first day is free, with no card required; one free day is available per account.

The monthly option is $9.99 per month. The same product is on every plan; only the billing period changes.
